Trek sizing

    Hi folks,

Like many of you, I'm always on the lookout for new and second hand bargains to increase my stable of bikes but as always sizing is the big issue for me, with 60s very hard to come by.

I have been looking at Trek Emondas SL5 and 6 and their sizing looks quite small. I've never ridden a Trek and would be a 60 in a Cannondale and a Cube. I'm 6'4" but my length is in my torso rather than legs and am a 34" inseam.

Anyone have any experiences with Trek sizing they would like to share?

FWIW, this is the bike I am interested in if anyone has any thoughts: https://www.garyscycles.com/product/30883/trek-emonda-sl-6-disc/option/

This also seems good value but I want to upgrade from 105 to Ultegra: https://www.garyscycles.com/product/1651/trek-emonda-sl-5-disc/

I'm after a decent carbon bike with a fast, racy set-up preferably with Ultegra. I'll end up racing it this year or next and my budget is 2.5 to 3.5k but have the BTW to soften the blow.

Any feedback always appreciated from those with more knowledge and experience than I do.

    Thanks in advance.

    I have a Trek Domane. I'm 6' 1", but I've long legs (34" inseam).

My Domane is a 59cm frame, and I've just last week replaced the stock 100mm stem with a 120mm equivalent. The bike felt too small for me, and I've a short torso for my size. If I had my time back again I'm 100% be going for the 61cm size.

Just my own 2 cents - a bike fitting is probably what you're after.

(I also feel your pain when looking for second hard bargains in the 60s!)

I'm 5'8" and a half and I've a 34" inseam, I feel like a spider freak now! (I ride a 54 I much prefer traditional geometry over sloping, I max out the seatpost on sloping geo bikes).

It does help me understand why I don't fit on bikes. I can use that as a reason to justify 8 bikes can't I?!

I'd say measure your inseam again!

I worked in my family business, a clothes shop that sold lots of suits, when I was younger and the joke we always had was that every fella in Ireland had a a 34" inseam!

Edit: Ignore that, it appears you are not a fella!

Thanks. I actually had a bike fit done recently.

I rang the shop selling the bike earlier and enquired about sizing and the guy said he wouldn't send me a bike without seeing my bike fitting as if it was wrong he'd struggle to sell the bike again given the size. After going through my bike fit he said a 60 would suit me better than a 62. I'm still undecided.

    Ha ha no bother.

Can confirm it's a full 34". Been measured in a bike fittingly fashion!

I'm part spider. Good long arms as well but very deficient in body which means bikes that 'fit' me are too long or too small.

I'll eventually get to a custom situation when I'm old and the maker will similarly question my measurements!
