    T milk choc digestives 300g were 39c 44c 55c now 70c. Their dark chocs are still 45c

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 961 ✭✭✭crayon80

Oh ffs, that's totally unreasonable and unjustified!

There have been massive jumps in the cheapest biscuits

Bourbons at 52c for a while, i think used to be 36c?

The 45c chocolate digestive are out of stock for me for ages. The 55c ones were there of course and now that there almost doubled in price, they'll def be in stock 😑

Re Tesco price increases complete this survey earn 25 clubcard points (free points once a month) and enter a competition for a €250 voucher. But let them know you have noticed the price increases and the significant differences in price between here and NI.

Here is the survey, you will need to copy it to Google. Link isn't allowed.

Tesco Unsmoked Irish Bacon Rashers 400G

Was 2 euro then up to 2.50 now 2.75

The latest packet I bought was all fat too, quality way down.

    I spoke too soon

    Biscuits increased again

Custard creams 70c, bourbons 60c. I don't care that it's only 31c up, that's more than doubled in a year.

@Zardoz they're 2.19 in dunnes if that's any good to you, for 400g unsmoked or 390g smoked (both are apparently 5.48/kg...)

Suggest switching to Aldi offcuts 1kg €2.19 or their 800g rashers for €4.29

Was it not possible to look at the fat content? - From my own purchasing it a quick turn upside down and check.

They don't "make" them to a perfect formula. Sometimes a piece has more fat and sometimes less. Some people want more fat, some want less. In the same batch you could have some with 10% fat and some with 20% fat, so saying a certain shop has gone "down" in quality because a pack you picked has a bit more fat that a previous pack is just ridiculous.

Flick though the packs and select one that suits your requirements.

I'm not great at watching prices from week to week, but last year around October-ish kind of time, I nearly choked at the till when I saw the price a 6-pack of Pedigree Chum Dog Food had jumped to. Used to be around €6.50 in Dunnes, but on this occasion it was €9.50+, so I switched to the Lidl stuff ever since.

I was in Dunnes today and see the Pedigree Chum is now €13.99. 😱

Aldi Skin on Fries gone up in price yet again from 2.79 to 2.99, think thats about its fifth or sixth price increase since they were first introduced at 1.49. Meanwhile in the UK the same product is £1.69 which is about 1.95 in euro and over there the bag is 1kg whereas here it is 800g. So they get 20% more for about 30% less money

Ishka 5L water bottles gone from 1.29 in Dunnes to 1:45 sometime recently

That seems to be an anomaly as many other "chip" products are cheaper in aldi here. EG classic 1.5g chips £1.69 uk, €1.25 here. Identical product. or Beef dripping chips (they are gorgeous) €2.05 here, £2.09stg there, Homestyle chips €1.09 here, £1.29stg there.

If its an anomaly then they know full well about it and have done nothing to fix it because I emailed Aldi CS in August when they introduced their fifth price increase of this product and their third increase during 2022. At that time on a per kilo basis the same product was 65% more expensive in Ireland than it was in the UK. If it was 20% or maybe even 30% dearer you could maybe explain that off to transport costs, exchange rates, VAT rate, etc but a 65% price differential looks like price gouging on a popular product to me.

    This was their reply

Thank you for contacting Aldi Customer Services.

Aldi is committed to offering high quality products at everyday great value prices. The price of an Aldi product in the UK is not directly comparable to the same Aldi product sold in Ireland for a number of reasons.

Currency exchange rate is a factor but this is not the determining factor for the price point of a product in Aldi Ireland. We review the market very carefully and we guarantee that the same product is not available in any of our competitors at a cheaper price.

That last line is a fabrication because Lidl sell their version of Skin on Fries for cheaper than Aldi, back then Aldi were 40 cents more expensive. I pointed this out in the follow up email and sent them a photograph of the price label in Lidl to prove it and asked them were they now going to reduce their own price by 40 cents to price match Lidl as per their guarantee. They completely ignored the second email and didnt reply at all as theyd been caught out rotten telling porky pies. So their price guarantee is nothing more than weasel words that they wouldnt back up.

I was in Tesco at the weekend and noticed big price jumps on cat food too - a 12 pouch box of Felix was on offer at 4.75 a month ago (full price about 6.25 or so), now they're 7.70 and no offer available. Whiskas was the same price. Even the own brand pouches are over 4 euro now (if only the fekn cat would eat them! ☺️)

The 40 pouch packs (Felix or Whiskas) ranged from 23 to 27 euro in Tesco. I nabbed a bargain in Dunnes today, where the 40 pack Felix was on offer for 15 euro.

Did it ever occur to you that maybe the poster got it delivered or they didn't want to touch every packet on the shelf due to covid or other reasons? You say each packet can vary by between 10% and 20% fat so how do you see what's in between the top and bottom on show? That is if you can even see both top and bottom of the pack. I don't think their post was "ridiculous" but you have a habit of this in most threads I have seen your comments.

A lot of posters here just want to vent their frustration and anger at the way prices are going and I don't blame them. You can paint it any way you want but this country is a rip off.

Don't expect anything from life, just be grateful to be alive.

    Aldi - Milk Choc Digestives 300g 39c 45c 55c 65c

    Lidl Aldi - BBQ sauce was 75c 79c 85c 99c €1.09

They were great in the airfryer but I've stopped buying them now. Don't get much out of the bag while you can still get a 1.5kg bag from Supervalu that works well in the airfryer for under 2 euro. Having said that when I was in Supervalu at the weekend, it seemed like a 15 or 20c had been added to all sorts of random items with no real rationale.

Yes I get my shopping delivered, have been doing so for 3 years, great service.

The quality of the rashers was always excellent as was most of the meat I ordered.

This packet was terrible as was the packet the following week.
