I can definitely see Greenwood playing professional football again, probably along with Ronaldo in that dump of a league but he’ll get paid plenty and won’t be asked about it all the time and will make millions. He got off light given what is in the public domain.

Everyone seen the photos & heard the voice note,

This case was dropped over the withdrawal of key witnesses , Unfortunately that is very very common in domestic abuse cases ,

Do you think he should play for United again ? Your answer will tell a lot about you as a man ,

There seems to be lots of little boys on boards who put supporting a player from there favourite football club over what is actually right & wrong in life, Jesus Christ lads there are things bigger than football ,

Do you think he should be allowed to earn a living again? If yes, then why does it make a difference where he works? Or what is the righteous pathway according to the 'yourdeadwright' court manual?

Simon Harris is monitoring the situation...

unfortunately it is very common for fans of every club to defend their players to the hilt, regardless of what they have done. This is not a United specific thing.

Yes he should be allowed work again & of course there is a differenc being a professional footballer is not just any old job ,

I don't think he should get the privilege of playing for one of the biggest football clubs in the world on the biggest stage ,I don't think Manchester United as a club or a brand should employ him ,Young children all over the world look up to footballers it not your average job , how could you cheer him on or celebrate his goals ,

Off topic but just read Dubravka will only get a Carabao Cup medal if United actually beat Newcastle.

Found that an amusing coincidence, has it ever happened before does anyone know?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,301 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

I would say it's pretty common.

Big teams have tons of players out on loan who don't get medals if the senior team.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 26,752 ✭✭✭✭pjohnson

You do realise Newcastle are his current team again? He only gets a medal if his current team looses to his former team. And if his current team actually wins he gets nothing.

The Crown Prosecution Service has withdrawn charges of actual bodily harm and coercive or controlling behaviour.

The move came after 12 witnesses — including the woman at the centre of the allegations — refused to co-operate.

I find it amazing that they all refused to co-operate. Coercion, coincidence or my conflation?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,954 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Obviously we don' know what happened,

But in most domestic abuse cases witnesses will be people who are close to the couple as these thing don't tend to happen on public but at home or in friends or families houses , .

Once the key witness ( the women this time ) pulls out & decides they don't want to move forward you will get the friends & family following suit at the request of the main witness, After all its there life that is effected ,

Also wouldn't bound he was under would have had to be broken for them to get back together ?

One of the below true & one is false,

A: He done it & she forgave him & took him back

B: She made it up & her forgave her for making it up & ruining his life in the public domain ,

Well he's obviously not going to get a medal if Newcastle win seeing as he can't play for them in the competition. I didn't realise he would be entitled to any medal if Utd won. I thought it was only the cup final squad who got a medal.

Edit. I just looked up the competition rules. Both teams get 30 medals to distribute as they please. So he's not entitled to any medal even if Utd win.

20.2 In addition to the Cup, the Management Committee shall present thirty souvenirs to the winning Club in the Final Tie; and thirty souvenirs to the losing Club in the Final Tie. Additional souvenirs may be presented with the consent of the Management Committee but shall be at the cost of the requesting Club.

Ah fair enough. Didn't realize he was gone back.

    Re Greenwood

So far Utd have acted as well as you could have hoped a club act in this situation. The player was rightfully suspended as there was a criminal investigation going on.

However, it does get a lot more tricky now he hasn't been convicted of that crime. We all heard the voice note and seen the pictures so like it or not everyone knows Greenwood did SOMETHING, we just don't know how bad it was.

It's also extremally unlikely the note or pics were faked as Greenwood surely would have been advised to go to court to clear his name if that could be proved.

I hate the idea of him playing for Utd again but then you only have to look around the league and you can see a midfielder who is currently out on bail with 2/3 different accusations against him playing. And being praised as one of the best in the league.

On the other hand you can't take a players career away for an accusation - it has to be proved.

Really don't know what the answer here is. The list of footballers with domestic abuse records is long and sad.

The idea of his name being worn by kids in Utd tops sickens me.

Ye so far United have done all the can be expected of them ,

In todays world i'd imagine they will be taking a close look at social media & the likes to see what the general feel around Greenwood is ,Basically its going to come down to public opinion & what's good for business,

As sad as it is if this wasn't Greenwood & a less talented member of the squad there be little to no conversation it would be a case of get him out the door as soon as legally possible

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,954 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

I clearly said United have done everything correct up until this point , they have dealt with it as good as you possibly could

Sorry i should have been clearer about the last part that is NOT about United ,i

It's about fans & media & the conversation about what happens next are only going to be had because of how talented he is, otherwise everyone would be saying when can they legally get rid,

Mod: some posts deleted, Mason Greenwood was identified by the authorities as a person under investigation, posters should not post names of other persons where the identity was not formally released.

Reece James has a history of muscle injuries.

He was rushed back from his last knee injury by being put straight into the starting line up, as opposed to being eased back in and so suffered a set back.

After spending 2 months out with that injury, he is put straight back into the starting line up again tonight, rather than being eased back in.

how do chelsea not score there?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,673 ✭✭✭doc_17

So the owners of Chelsea are Clearlake Capital. And Saudi Part own them…

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 35,108 ✭✭✭✭~Rebel~

Sort of, but not really... Clearlake are a private equity group, and one of the clients whose funds they manage is a portion of the Saudi wealth fund. So it's not quite like the way they directly influence Newcastle or something, taking a bath on the costs, in that Clearlake's raison d'etre is to earn a return on the capital invested with them wherever they see opportunities to do so. The Saudi's also have less than 5% of the overall shareholdings in Clearlake

The Saudi's have so much money I'd guess they have funds invested in pretty much any big private equity group around the world.

Deserved draw for Fulham. Chelsea looked fairly disjointed with all the additions.

Which makes their investment in Chelsea baffling, where is this return on the £611m going to come from?

Or if he's a more talented player he'll be played and no heed passed, as a United great has been in spite of not dissimilar allegations mad against him.

Morality doesn't come into it, it's all about the money! If United think they will get away with him playing without damaging the 'brand', they will. They wouldn't be the first club (soccer or indeed rugby) or probably the last to chance it. I doubt they will though, he'll be shipped off to Asia or maybe Turkey where he's out of sight and out of mind.
