Ordered an M3 SR plain white today, and delivery said April - May.

I would hope they would have updated to September if they knew that was going to be the case.

If they took 1,000 model Y orders in January then the lead time is fairly understandable no?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 373 ✭✭og2k7

It is but I think you are missing a point. My point was that the site says Feb-Mar, staff say September. Both are fine, but if you know you won't be able to deliver that many items in the specified time (which you are providing), change the date to reflect September or something more realistic. Seems a bit misleading to potential buyers. Does that make sense? This looks like Tesla getting huge order numbers, giving invalid delivery times, knowing they won't be able to meet the demand. I know the staff want to stay on the safe side—fair. But the site doesn't make it easy for them.

Any site that offers items online providing invalid delivery times (by 8 months) would end up in hot water at some point, no?

It might, Tesla don't build to order so will be lots of whites and black even blue now. Reds are not produced in big quantities

IF they did (big IF) then Tesla have since come out and said they can satisfy 50% of their current global demand, so everything else being equal 500 new Teslas on Irish roads Feb/March

I ordered a Model Y RWD black/black on the evening of 13th Jan and I got a VIN assigned today. So there’s hope for people who ordered standard specs around that date for delivery soon. Sounds like there’ll be lots of cancellations of double bookings as others have said.

What EV can someone order now, in fact in last 6 months that could be guaranteed before july 2023?

enyaq? Mg4? Bz4x? Id4? All of them have delays, some arent taking orders. This was the best of the lot

if people are knocking tesla re july and grant, what other options are there really.

tesla are known to drop prices to match grants, the US being a point in case

I sort of imagine that. I am still hopefull as Tesla Delivery team has already contacted me regarding all paperwork, and it seems like we're just waiting on a VIN. I would imagine they knwo that at least there's one car with my spec on some of those boats, hence them reaching out for me to fill out all the papers. But that might as well be wishful thinking, then again, my order was placed back in September (although changed recently) so if they have any sort of "FIFO" logic to their VIN assignment process (either manual or automatic) I should be able to get something.

Anyway, hoping I'll get a VIN soon :).

Keep in mind that Tesla is a public company. Staff would be limited in what information they can share, even if they know more.

100% and not giving out in any way. Just making an observation that little transparency would help. In terms of the order If it happens it happens if not wasn't meant to be is my approach 🙂

I think Tesla is the best value looking at the options - completely agree. Also best looking of them all (my wife prefers Volvo). Looked at enyaq - 60k for a Skoda is pure madness. But having a clear order system would definitely help. And if the order is fulfilled in September its as distant as January next year at this stage for me 🙂- as I have a buyer for our car now not in September

Look at it the other way - you could have ordered a BMW i4 or a Hyundai Ioniq 5 in late 2021/early 2022 and get continuously fobbed off by the manufacturer<>dealer axis while they hold your money indefinitely with vague promises of "any day now".

    Which way do you prefer?

    The grant has come back into my account now and the overview screen has the US only insurance section along with the next steps;

"We are drafting up your contract and will contact you when you can make your final payment"

So it looks hopeful that something will happen soon. Still seeing feb-mar and no vin yet.

Also seeing Feb-March, with no VIN. Blue Model 3 LR.

If theoretically I was out of the country for whenever the collection day is, what would happen?

Once your VIN is assigned, then it's your car. Pick it up at your convenience. Assuming that you have paid for it obviously...;)

Got a VIN Allocation overnight (MY, RWD, White, Black Int so standard I suppose) but just to point out to anyone looking at allocations that they don't seem to be allocated sequentially by order date.

I placed my original order on 18/10/2022 and got it overnight whereas other folks ordered later and got a VIN before me so don't panic if you don't see a VIN yet.

Got my VIN overnight as well and my order was exact same as yours. Early November order.

Very little logic I can see to their VIN allocation process.

Tesla factory in Shanghai back manufacturing after Chinese new year - apparently targeting to produce 20,000 cars per week until the end of Q1. Looks like plenty of black cars being made at the moment 😊

    Source: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7W1AP_HO6sA

There will undoubtedly be more Q1 ships to Europe to meet demand - we all know Tesla try to deliver as many cars as possible for quarter end, so I'd say there is bound to be another Irish allocation of cars on future Q1 ships. Once a ship leaves Shanghai by the end of February, cars should be delivered here by end of March.
