Ventilation advice

    Hi,

    We bought a house built in 1983. It was upgraded in 2015 at the time of an extension, so was a B3 rating with decent installation in attic and walls seem good too. There are vents in the extension but none in the original. These seem to be holes through wall with grills either side. The spare room gets damp, as it's not heated much (smart oil heating with 2 zones and TRV's). We put an electric dehumidifier in the room a couple of times a week to prevent mould for 3 hours on EV elec rate. The house is now an A2 but due to PV system and smart heating controller, we didn't change insulation.

    Will I lose much heat if I just put "hole in the wall" vents in these two rooms? Is it worth getting some sort of heat recovery vent?

    The vent in the kitchen makes noise when windy, so that type would be annoying!

    The spare room gets damp, as it's not heated much

    Maybe try heating the room more

    Yeah I was trying to be energy efficient though and not heating up rooms we aren't using. It's averaged about 14 degrees in their this month, going down close to 12 in the cold weather last week. Similar in December. Always above 15 in October and November.

    Not heating 'the spare room' is very often a false economy overall.
