HSE is not the civil service so you can't get assigned there from a civil service competition.

The HSE are actually running a clerical officer competition at the moment, closing date 31 Jan IIRC, there is a thread on it in this forum.

Civil service (which includes many but not all of the offices/agencies) would be better for career progression as you have access to interdepartmental competitions (some of which are only open to serving civil servants) as well as internal competitions in your own department. Also the option of mobility across the civil service once you have two years service.

    I'm partial to your abracadabra,

I'm raptured by the joy of it all.

Hi mother hens, I got assigned revenue too but still waiting on start date etc, do you mind me asking if it's the training your starting and how long and where it will be please?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭Daisyflower123

@sparkyG6 were you assigned for Dublin ?

When I started in Revenue last August they emailed me the contract on the Thursday evening and said read , fill out these and return by email and post along with all the legislations and secrecy documents by Friday evening. I had less than 24hrs to print so many documents and return by post to them. Then had the same to sign and return by email. I was panicking haha

I started the Monday morning. It’s always seems to be last minute for some reason.

I have to give a decent sized notice, will they expect docs back in 24 hours too?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭Charliesha92

    Hey,

I started in Revenue last August and was the exact same. It is such a mess starting. I only found out 2 weeks before what my starting date was. Then found out 1 week before what location. Then the Thursday evening before starting only found out what building and who I was reporting to. They seem to lack communication and my team didn’t even know I was coming. No one was in the office when I arrived on the Monday so it made no difference who I was to report to haha

If you have been told you have been provisionally assigned to Revenue and you are just awaiting to hear from recruitment or HR in Revenue I would assume you will be starting in the next 4 weeks so maybe tell your current employer.

Do they always emailing or do they give a call? As I’m waiting for my location and start date.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭Charliesha92

I have no idea if I just got very unlucky with my experience starting with Revenue. I was given 2-3 weeks notice of starting but didn’t know which division or location.

It was the assignments section of Dublin Castle you deal with first when starting in Revenue and they absolutely have no communication. Like I said they literally emailed me on the Thursday evening with so many documents to read and sign along with my contract. I nearly fainted when I opened all the attachments and it said print copies and return by post to Dublin Castle by Friday evening as I had no access to a printer at the time. They also wanted them signed and returned by email too. So much reading.

I have just spoken to recruitment with my new Department in Justice and they said no need for hard copies and only a pdf when they email me my contract so thank god haha

Also what might be possible revenue assignment locations in Dublin: is it D1, D2 or Tallaght?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 50 ✭✭Charliesha92

In town the locations can be Dublin Castle and Lower Mount Street. There is a Tallaght office too. The training school is Dolier Street in town if you have to do any training.

I am not sure of any other locations but I’m sure there is more

Yes I got an email from PAS saying I will have to do training, wondering if it could be done online from home? Do you know how long is the training?

Would be great to know ann exact location as I will have to travel from Kildare . Thinking what would be the best way to commute depending on location. Hope there is no shift work involved 🙈😂

Most of Revenue is blended working. We do 1 day a week in the office and the rest will be from home. They will supply you with all equipment for WFH. The training school can be in person in a classroom on Dolier street or remotely over Teams. Just depends on how the Revenue training branch want to do it. Amazing that you are getting training. I’ve heard from others training can be 6 weeks to 6 months depending on what section.

To answer your other question. HR will ring a few days before with info on who you are reporting on your first day.

I am starting in Justice and got my start date of March 6th but I have no idea where or what it is haha

    Hi all :)

    thanks!

Surprisingly enough it was emailed to me today! So happy days!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 53 ✭✭Daisyflower123

@Charliesha92 thank you for your response , hope all will go well for you in your new work place:)

I would prefer to start after middle of March as I have exam and also my partner is going away for few days 🙈 so will be hard to manage the childcare especially if they will be limited by giving days off during the training

They might actually ask you when can you start. Justice asked me yesterday when can I start. They said what about February 13th ?and I said no sorry I’m out of the country on annual leave the end of February so that won’t suit me and they came back with the 6th of March so I accepted that date.

When they contact you for a starting date just say I cannot start till mid March and they might be ok with that.
