I love how a war of expansion by the fascist / imperial state is being spun by him as Russia somehow being the "victims" of aggression in all this.

Senior US officials are advising Ukraine to hold off on launching a major offensive against Russian forces until the latest supply of US weaponry is in place and training has been provided, a senior Biden administration official has said.

    https://www.abc.net.au/news/2023-01-21/us-officials-advise-ukraine-to-wait-on-offensive-official-says/101879240

They are also advising Ukraine to just let them 'win' Bakhmut and stop wasting resources on it, because once they are are trained on the Bradleys, they are just going to roll over them in a southern offensive and achieve a whole lot more. They didn't say that explicitly, that's me reading between the lines.

There's more there about an ex Navy Seal dying bringing the toll of US citizens to 6.

Pain fills the heart. Unspeakable sadness envelops the soul. Ukraine loses its best sons and daughters every day. Thank you for your important and worthy work for the benefit of Ukraine. You are forever in our hearts. Eternal memory!

    Volodymyr Zelenskyi

    Volodymyr Zelenskyi:

I would like all of us to feel today how many lives, how many bright people are taken by wartime. I would like us all to honor their memory today…

Bright memory to all those whose lives were taken away by the war! Bright memory to all those who gave their lives for Ukraine!

We are doing everything to expel this war from our land.

    Glory to Ukraine!

I think Zelensky surpassed Churchill a while ago. There has not been as great a leader of a country for at least 60 years.

Bakhmut is seriously depleting the Ukrainian army.

From what I’ve read over the last few weeks and this report I’m thinking a lot of information is being held back.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,291 ✭✭✭✭Gatling

    No .

The Czechs sent their old tanks and got 13 German tanks in return but they had to order a number of other's 30+ from Germany and then having to pay to upgrade the tanks 13 they were getting for sending their old tanks to Ukraine,

Seems like a win /win for the Germans

The tanks didn't go to Ukraine because of Germany, Germany did a deal that made them money.while ukraine got Soviet era tanks due to be decompressioned

Fantasy figures. That's 480k dead or wounded. Russia hasn't even sent in that amount.

Also the post you were replying to is misleading. The US general did not agree with the Ukrainian figures - at least they don't agree that eliminated means dead. The US believes there are well over 100k Russian casualties - which could be dead or wounded.

    🤣

Yes, Russia is winning. Maybe Ukraine should just crawl to Putin and beg for surrender.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 728 ✭✭✭20Wheel

So like ... an exchange or something? organized by Germany.

Which results in 35 T72s on the ground in Ukraine.

Why its almost like Germany bought Czech tanks and had them forwarded to Ukraine. 🤔

Putin is a dictator. Putin should face justice at the Hague. All good Russians should work to depose Putin. Russias war in Ukraine is illegal and morally wrong.

I have had another thought about Scholz not approving Leopard 2 tanks, apart from the possibility it's all a ruse; Could it simply be the excruciating embarrasment and humiliation of other countries being able to supply fully operational tanks, while Germany can't, because theirs are all inoperational because of decades of negligence and neglect? All this sudden talk of doing an audit of their tanks after Lambrecht blocked the same thing would seem to fit.

    It really isn't fantasy.

The real figures are much worse because the orcs are inveterate liars.

Waves of orc meat against the Ukrainian guns. It's a total slaughter.

No the Czechs bought 40 odd German tanks, while sending their old decompressioned tanks to Ukraine,

But the Germans maintain a veto over any of the tanks sold to the Czech republic

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,767 ✭✭✭✭cnocbui

The Ukrainians are in a position to count bodies, you are not, and neither are the US.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,844 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

Bakhmut is also depleting the Russian Army. We really don't know the details, but if Ukraine is inflicting multiple the casualties as they are receiving, it could make sense to literally use it as a kill zone, despite Ukraine's losses. 1 Russian killed attacking is 1 less that can defend elsewhere when Ukraine starts a counteroffensive, when Russia have the defensive advantage.

Do Russia even mention daily the number of Ukrainian soliders killed? What do the Russian public actually know or what details do they get daily? I'd love to know.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 895 ✭✭✭eoinbn

Ukrainians aren't standing beside where their mortar/artillery shells are landing and counting bodies.

120k deaths would suggest 400k-500k dead or injured which just isn't possible as there wouldn't be any Russians left on the front line if that was true.

400-500k isn't only possible but could be conservative.

Ringtausch is the German government's equipment exchange programme developed in partnership with its neighbours and NATO allies to support Ukraine against the Russian invasion. It also involves the transfer of Soviet-era heavy equipment to Ukraine by Nato countries in receipt of surplus Western-made systems.

    • Google.

    "From Czech Army's deep storage:

35 T-72M1 [April 2022].[77] Germany later included the Czech Republic in its Ringtausch program, providing replacement for these tanks."

    • Wikipedia.

    Do you understand.

Germany organized a 3 way swap of sorts, which coincidentally in German is the word 'ringtausch'.

And this resulted in 35 T72s ending up in Ukraines possession.

No Germany, no exchange program, no 35 T72s in Ukraine.

Putin is a dictator. Putin should face justice at the Hague. All good Russians should work to depose Putin. Russias war in Ukraine is illegal and morally wrong.

I often wonder how a "Private" army like Wagner works.....

A normal sovereign army is to protect and serve a country, and when you join you join out of your patriotism, but also in the hope that you will hopefully see as little action as possible and make it home each day/week/month/year.

The Wagner group, as a private army, is constantly for hire?, and somehow set up to make money?, so you're sure to be active.

And that was before The war in Ukraine war broke out, where now you're almost guaranteed not to make it past the probation period..

They must be offering a great salary, Company vehicle, Gym membership and importantly a great dental plan....sure they'll need some way to identify you at a later stage!!

(Actually read a small bit now about them and it's basically a Russian army Division, in all but name??, but still would want to join, or are they also conscripts?)

There may be some confusion between 'deaths' and 'wounded'. A report surfaced the other day claiming that hundreds of Ukrainians a day were dying there but that was almost certainly a misunderstanding of what the report said - by 'casualties', it surely meant dead and injured (and others forced to withdraw from the theatre for whatever reason).

We know too that Ukraine is quite excellent at evacuating and treating injured soldiers and getting many of them back into battle quickly.

The more the Germans talk about the tanks being a trigger, the more the tanks risk actually becoming a trigger. It’s inadvertently implanting ideas and giving propagandists in Russia storylines.

What they’re doing is rather strategically ridiculous.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,844 ✭✭✭Wolf359f

No but a lot of times drones are. Nobody is saying Ukraine is going and tagging and bagging each and every dead Russian, that's just absurd.

Can I ask where you're getting the dead to injured ratio? Various ratios have been quoted but all based on recent conflicts, which this more resembles WW2/WW1 with the artillery. We've also seen plenty of videos of shells hitting Russian troops and those still standing just run and leave the wounded.

Because they bought 30 Leopards from the Germans, the Germans didn't give them a leopard for every tank they sent to Ukraine,

The Czechs bought leopard tanks 30+

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 895 ✭✭✭eoinbn

    Starting force of 190k.

Recruited 300k of which ~150k have been deployed.

    50k Wagners.

So Russia has lost more than 500k out of 390k? Does not compute. Even if all 300k were deployed to the front it would mean that near all Russians soldiers were eliminated - which is nonsense.

    Separate sale.

"The Czech army is due to receive the first of 15 older Leopard 2A4 tanks from Germany on Tuesday, to make up for those which Czechia sent to Ukraine to boost the country’s defense capability. According to the Czech Defense Ministry the remaining 14 tanks should arrive in Czechia next year. German assistance in replacing the equipment donated to Ukraine was agreed in early May by Prime Minister Petr Fiala and German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. (Edit: Separately) The two countries are also negotiating the purchase of up to 50 more state-of-the-art Leopard tanks, which the Czech Republic would acquire in the coming years."

(ps: wouldnt that separate sale sort of disagree with your theory of the German arms industry losing its sales etc etc)

If it weren't for site rules, I could spend an entire day posting videos of Ukrainian troops visiting the aftermath of their Orc wipeouts, looking at countless bodies from 1m away. That's exactly what they do a lot of. And that's besides the battle assessments they do Using drones.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,473 ✭✭✭Jinglejangle69

Russia can sustain it by lobbing 50,000 convicts and mercenaries in.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,473 ✭✭✭Jinglejangle69

Listen man, I want Ukraine to win this so bad, I’m checking everyday for updates.

But something doesn’t seem right, Ukraine are being held at arms length for some reason.

Russia are still pushing on and there is no end in sight.

I can’t see how Ukraine win this war.

And that is precisely how most of the "help" looks like. It is a business nothing more. Ex communist bloc countries found a way to get rid of old junk while getting paid for it and also getting new shiny gear as replacement.

This is also why Germans hesitate to send any leopards in. For now, they do bring good money and orders are coming in. Yet they are not really battle tested and Germans do not want to risk upsetting their cash income finding out that they may not be as good as everyone think they are. Conflict is so intense they may suffer the same fate as gepards so Germans may think twice to send another export article in. That is also one of the reasons we do not see US tanks in there with excuse of logistics. Of course US is just happy to push Germans to send Leopards in so more US stock can be sold as replacement...

Same fate as the Gepards? You'll have to expand on that. They have proven to be extremely effective.

Doesn't seem an outlandish claim if the closest repair facility is thousands of miles away vs next door?
