Cracked paint on front door

Despite it only being repainted the summer before last it looks like the cold weather has caused some of the paint on my front door to crack.

what’s the best way of touching this up? I’ll sand it down, do I need to fill or use primer or something before repainting ?

Do you remember if it was an oil or water based paint it was done with the last time?

That recent freezing frost, will get in behind the tiniest of cracks, work its way in and split, then loosen the paint film.

A good sand down, wash off any dust, a good primer before painting. I like this Zinsser primer and haven't had any issues with it so far.

Unless the timber is cedar wood, in which case you'll need to use an oil based primer.

Is the door hardwood or soft wood? Sometimes a different hardwood is used to hold the glass in place (glass bead?) and it might be an oilier wood than the rest of the door hence the water bases paint might not have adhered as well as it could to it?
