Balbirnie retired hurt on 121 and a no ball given. What happened?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,527 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

Not every day ya see two tons for Irish batsmen in an ODI

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,527 ✭✭✭✭KevIRL

288/4 in the end. Would have to think they would have made it past 300 in Balbirnie didnt have to retire hurt

Full toss bowled (above waist height, hence the no-ball), which he top-edged straight into the grille of his helmet. The neck protection at the back of the helmet flew off, and must have flown 10-15 yards back. Sickening hit.

He hit the deck straight away, but was ok to leave the field under his own steam, albeit with the physio's support, and managed to snarl at a too-close cameraman too.

He's not come out for the fielding effort, and if he's concussed his tour could be over. Can't take any chances with that stuff.

Zimbabwe 175-4 from 33.2 overs, needing 114 to win. Rain has intervened for the moment. Ireland are ahead barely on DLS by just 2 runs.

Irish bowlers were on top until Burl joined Raza and they have a partnership going with 76 scored from just 11 overs.

Evans I think it was floored him with a beamer.

Covers off and Zimbabwe have 39 to win from 22 balls.

Raza holes out on the second ball. Good over from Adair and Zimbabwe need 37 from 18.

9 from Hume's over including an all-run 4 which I've never seen in an ODI, which now make it 29 from 12 for Zimbabwe to win.

Good start to the over from Little where only 5 came from the first 2 balls, but Burl hits 10 from the last two and now Zimbabwe just need 13 from the last over.

Final over to be bowled by Hume.

Madande takes a single from the first ball to leave the strike to Ryan Burl.

Burl hits the second ball into the field and is run out coming back for the second. 11 from 4 now with both set batsmen gone.

Evans in now and he smashes the first ball for six! Just over the fielder and it's now 5 from 3.

Pressure on Hume now. He delivers!! Evans out lbw next ball! 5 from 2.

Masakadza in at number 9. Take 1 and now Madande needs 4 from the last.

Why did Hume bowl the last ball full? Predictable yer man was expecting it, would he not have put in a slow bouncer.

We lose more of these games in the last over or two than we win.

Hard to explain how they lost that. Dreadful ball by Hume. Ireland lose so many games in the death overs.

Unbelievable talk about throwing it away Zimbabwe win with a 4 off the last ball.

No balbornie this morning. Ireland 180/2 after 35. Dohney on 83 not out.

2 boundaries in the last 6 overs. Wickets a plenty in hand..

15 off that over though, might make 290 which isn’t a bad score here.

294/7 which is a reasonably decent score.

great start by us with the ball … Zimbabwe 1/1 after 1.2 😋

Hume has been unlucky - draws an edge only to find that Stirling has pulled the slips out. Then another edge and Stirling can't reach. Know it's been said before but jaysus he could lose a bit of weight and that belly!!

Zimbabwe completely on top and Ireland got a wicket out of nothing as Chibhabha looked to hit out against McBrine.

    97-2 after 21 overs.

Raza get done by the short ball and McBrine has the catch at mid-on and that's a huge wicket for Ireland. 141-4 after 29 overs, needing 154 at 7.33.

Burl now comes to the wicket and he has been in great recent form against Ireland. Pivotal moments in the game now.

Slipping away by the looks of it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,268 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Great over by Hume.. just the single conceded.

7.95 required... still handy enough for Zimbabwe with them being only 4 wickets down...

Two quick wickets however and we'd be favourites again..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,268 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Hume only coughing up another 3... so 4 off the last 2.. 8.45 needed now..

Burl run out. How Ireland needed that. 207-5 now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,268 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

I was nervous the third umpire wasn't giving that... given he asked to see about 345 replays and still couldn't seem to decide...OUT.. come on lads !

    8.89 needed by Zimbabwe

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,479 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Little!!! Madande bowled. What a ball by the 500k man!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,268 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Absolutely class delivery... would have seen better batsmen on their way...

Stupid runout attempt... hurling the ball at the stumps.. no runout there and conceding a couple of overthrows... then butchering a genuine runout next delivery jeeeeez .. Adair sleepwalking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,479 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Awful, awful fielding. All they had to do was walk up to the stumps.

Ireland giving Zimbabwe another life here.

Have to say, it's brilliant that such a good crowd is at the game. Have watched a lot of international games recently with a lot of empty stands.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,479 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Super catch by Tector!! A number of fielders were on the leg side but Evans took it on and Tector takes the catch running in.

Ballance only has bowlers with him now, needing 60 from the last 5 overs.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,479 ✭✭✭VillaMad

Little bowls Ngarva! What a superstar we have.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,268 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Nyauchi averages a shade over 7.... try keep him on strike .

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 27,268 ✭✭✭✭Strumms

Another great catch... come on lads.. just genuinone single wicket required two absolute tailenders..

Adair finishes it! Well done lads. Great way to bounce back after Wednesday's heart-breaker.
