Rad won't heat up

    Hi All,

    I have a new ish rad and it won't heat up, Ive bled it and also let about half a pint of water out to see if it was discoulered and it wasn't. Should I drain the whole thing ? Thanks all

    Is the lock-shield valve slightly open? If it and the TRV are open and it's not heating up, it may be a balancing issue or a pump pressure problem. You would need to adjust some of the other rads to bring it on. It's a bit tricky unless you know what you're doing.

    When you say it is a new rad, did you have to move the pipes when fitting it?

    I would shut off both valves, drain down the rad by loosening one side and the vent. Then i would open both sides individually and let a good bit of water drain out of that valve to make sure neither side is air locked. This will also make sure there is flow from both sides.

    I had something similar when I moved a radiator along a wall. One pipe was in the same location, but the other pipe needed to be made much longer, to reach the far side of the radiator. When i added water back into the system one pipe got air locked as the run was slightly longer.
