Most important thing for United is to carry this form to the end of the season and prove this is no blip.

If United beat Arsenal the weekend, it would be fantastic for the title race ,

I want Arsenal to win it because Liverpool can't but it would be fantastic to see a 3 way title race for a change, In fact you can't right Newcastle off either ,

What's with all these random one-off midweek games? Were there a lot of postponements before Christmas or something?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 23,035 ✭✭✭✭citytillidie

Queens death weekend and then there was a couple of games postponed for the funeral only Fulham have played all 20 games so far. Man City V Arsenal was postponed as Arsenal had to play a Europa League game that mid week because again of the Queen, so Premier League are filling them all in now when they can I way they were hopeful of Wolves beating Liverpool last night to get the Chelsea V Liverpool game played during an FA CUP weekend before they start to clash with league games

When did Weghurst sign for United? Jesus it'd show you how much attention I've paid to the PL this season.

Just no money. Assume its because the club is up for sale the owners wouldn't sanction any moves. Apparently there is also in the region of £300 effin million outstanding from previous tranfers.😬

    Tipsters reckon 1-1 tonight.

"Even Saturday's victory comes with a caveat, a ridiculous offside decision that anyone who understands football should be infuriated with. More pertinent to the betting preview of this match-up is the performances of Manchester United on their travels. A total of 16 points gained masks the fact they hold a -4 goal difference and a fairly middling +1.6 expected goal difference (xGD) away from home."

Bruno should really avoid doing that on the field with a younger teammate.

Good tracking back. Zaha never looked getting onto that.

    Should have been the winner

Big moment that Casemiro yellow card.

It was a terrible tackle too. Definitely a yellow card, maybe a bit more. You could sense the Man Utd players knowing what it meant. Possibly changed the managers sub plans aswell. Man Utd then concede a late goal, Casemiro misses an open goal late on and now misses a big game away at Arsenal.

A controversial penalty appeal just before it too - would've changed the course of the game if given.

Having said that, there were a lot of replays of different angles on the potential pen, and in none of them could you say the defender definitely categorically didn't get half a toe on the ball, so I understand them not overruling the ref's initial call.

255 pages of outrage on Uniteds equaliser against city because “how could anybody think Rashford wasn’t interfering with play?”

Is there going to be pages and pages of complaints and discussions about VAR not giving a peno for United because it wasn’t “clear and obvious” even though it was clear and obvious? And it wasn’t just the peno not given , United’s best player then got a yellow and palace got an equaliser with a free kick no more a free then the peno not given .

So is the outrage incoming at the inadequacy of officials understanding the game or using VAR?

    Let me check….

No penalty and a well deserved equaliser for Palace!

Fair deuce to Utd for being in the title race for 4 days! All their fans should be very proud!

TBH.....a lot of the peno decisions go one way or the other depending on the ref's initial decision and VAR will only step in the clarify that decision. Getting the "right" decision, for lack of a better phrase, is a secondary concern IMO.

If the ref had awarded the pen, VAR would have done the exact same thing. Nothing. Because its within this grey area of 'clear and obvious', not another ref making a decision. The pen would stand.

There's a huge amount of similar calls that go one way or the other with them and only sporadically does VAR overturn the initial call, or sent the ref to the monitor. There's not one angle shown that immediately screams the ref "should have seen that", and replaying the tackle at superslow speed even shows the millisecond timing of it. They're not gonna overrule a call like that every time.......that said, if they asked him to go the monitor, it wouldn't surprise me to see him reverse his call.

TBH...I'm more surprised VAR didn't spent more time on Casemiro's yellow than the pen. If there is such a thing as an orange card, it's that challenge, and it might have been looked at closer if the player hadn't bounced up straight away. High, reckless, stopping forward attack.....it had it all, but the quick decision of the ref with the yellow probably stood VAR down in a similar manner.

No way the Casemiro one was a red. The penalty appeal? Probably a foul but it wasn’t clear and obvious that the ref got it wrong as even some of the replays made it hard to determine the whether or not the defender got a touch.
