Yep my closest station was mt dillion -7c but yet in summer was 32c so all extremes its prone here

Just had another shower there 30 minutes ago. The drop in temperature did the trick, everything stuck. A nice dusting on all surfaces now. If things stay the right side of marginal for us there could be a decent covering by morning. However, I bet if the shower activity does increase through the next few hours the snow will turn sleet. Typical!

Yeah, I reckon Mount Dillon is very often the coldest official station in the country during the winter months and conversely, the warmest in the summer months. My nearest official station too so I can vouch for it.

Short flurry in kinnegad a few moments ago even though nothing on the radars. I'm longford bound and it looks like it's in the firing line in an hour or two along with many other parts of Connaught plus North and West Leinster

Not ruling out a couple of showers reaching Dub land overnight giving a dusting but it's hard work and ponderous progress of any showers in an airmass like this.

Geographical position in the country and topography are two factors in Mt Dillon high and cold extremes, but another is soil type.

It's surrounded by an extensive area of drained peat soils and these bogs will always be warmer in summer and colder in winter.

The breeze has picked up here. The temperature I think has risen slightly too with it. There is another shower building up at the moment. Let's see what falls...

Just arrived at the house near Ardagh, Longford. Moderate snow shower was passing on arrival. Roads not great but completely passable with care, once you don't have to go up or down a hill of any sort. 0°

No but she comes regularly for a bit of food, she brought her cubs to the house also to introduce them at the end of the summer and my colleague thinks she was brought to the house by her mother a few years ago. My colleague has been putting out food for them for years.

the band of rain/sleet snow pushing down from the north disappeared into thin air as it crossed the border into Louth/Monaghan with nothing left in it now.

You should be getting some heavy precip now and for the next while in Carrick - how's it going?

Some intense looking radar returns now out to the west of Donegal.

A nice few CM to fall for some places in the path over the next couple of hours if that cell stays intact.

Graupel has turned to proper snow now. Come on a few hours of this will do nicely now, not one shower every 40 minutes.

Moderate snow shower in Galway City, readily settling in the footpaths from what I can see.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,869 ✭✭✭✭nacho libre

Inland Donegal is going to have a lot of snow by the looks of that. Some places up North have had close to 4 inches at this stage.

Watching the radar with the 8yo this evening eat 6pm expecting snow showers at some stage tonight. Now family in the West sending us snow photos. Nada here. A few minutes of an attempt of white flakes.
