Safety shoe query

Hi

I was onsite today, and will have to attend site more often going forward. Most of the time very late on, near completion.

I need a lighter, almost shoe like, safety shoe. I must have climbed 20+ sets of stairs today, it might not should like a lot but it is for me, I have fatigue issues, and the big clunky boots are difficult. I need something lighter.

Any suggestions?

Look up Safety Trainers

SCrewfix have a whole range of them. Most builders providers would have them too, just make sure you pick one with the protective midsole, not all of them have that.

Before you go buying anything check with the site management to see what is acceptable there is no point in buying Safety trainers if they are not permitted.

I have a pair of puma site shoes. Very comfortable. Current project is a high rise, so plenty of stairs involved.

Some site safety officers might be a bit strict refuse access without the big clunky boots. Is there not an exception for design team members and consultants?

The Puma trainers, do they have steel mid sole? What do the actual H&S Regs require?

Depends on the project what the requirements are. Higher risk sites may require steel missoles and/or high ankle boots

I would have been frequently seen walking down Harcourt St around 3am on a Sunday morning wearing Puma trainers resembling them 20 years ago.

I know you've ordered now, but O'Sullivans on the Long Mile Road usually have a decent range of runner-style safety shoes in, I've a pair of hightops that I can't remember the brand of that have satisfied the few places that have asked me for them before - from building sites to particularly difficult datacentres.

Look up Upower safety boots in Sullivan safety. Extreme comfort. I combine mine with orthotics for arthritis in my great toe joints and it allows me work a pretty normal level with 15-20.k steps a day. Couldn’t do it before I started wearing these boots.

Normally safety shoes are not permitted on sites. They offer no ankle support

That is what I thought myself last night. I cancel order and ordered a pair that offered support the ankles.
