Yep but its 150 eur extra - 1500 instead of 1350

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 1,858 ✭✭✭rx8

But you pay vrt on the 1350 though, so not that much difference.

    MY = €46521

    MY +Tow hitch= €47975

    Difference = €1454

So for for €46 you don't risk losing your delivery slot. Well worth that imho.

No offence, but 150 euro extra should mean very little in this context.

Too good to pass up, ordered standard range in black.

Great write up. How was comfort? Was it on 19 or 20 inch wheels?

I too test drove the SR yesterday. Very impressed

    Pros:

It's really well built. Solid, like a VW.

Speed was good. A guy in the other lane was driving a souped up X5 and it was a match for speed on the on ramp. He was flooring it

Ride is good. Still hard, but comfortable. No real complaints.

    Parcel shelf

Heat. In this weather its great to get in to a car that heats almost immediately

    Cons:

No parking sensors. I struggled to park the beast in the tesla garage without it. I mean, it was fine, but definitely slower to park. As a decision, it is a complete cluster**

You need to take your eye off the road to see the speed, but you'll get used to it

I found the rear wheel drive, when floored, you really get a sense of an imbalance between back and front. It's fine, you'll get used to it, but it's a different modus to the awd versions

Overall, very happy. Worth doing the test drive. It made me think, am I really going to use the tow bar. Got me thinking. And then I changed the colour to black. It's a bit of a whale in white

    Tks for that.

Interesting about your impression of the slow speed acceleration. First thing I noticed also with my Model 3 RWD last March. My ID.3 gave a real kick from zero, you could just get the back out before traction control took over. But the Model 3 flies after about 30km/h or so. A suppose a bit of a saving on tyre wear..😊

I remember you posting that. I've driven pretty much every Tesla in pretty much every different performance level. Except until today I don't think I ever drove a Model 3 RWD (or Model Y RWD) but now I know exactly what you were saying. Quite shocking. I could swear an Ioniq 28kWh (with all of its 118BHP LOL) would be quicker away from the line.

I guess this is programmed deliberately so people who want / need faster acceleration upgrade to AWD.

Comfort was very good. Because of the decent suspension. 19" wheels.

Interesting, is there an official 0-60km time for the MY SR? If not, Bjorn no doubt has one. Will we be nervous at roundabouts!?

    6.9s 0-100km/h

The first bit is slow, but it picks up very quickly after. From about 30-40km/h and upwards it feels decently fast. And no, no worries at roundabouts. I'm probably a bit spoiled having had a lot of fast ICE (with big engines and lots of torque) and electric cars in the past 😁

Amazing review. Would you pay say 10k extra for Xc40 or c40 or 18k for BmW iX1?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,678 ✭✭✭joe1303l

Would the quiet cabin be attributed to a combination of twin pane glass and michelin acoustic type tyres ? You didn’t notice what brand of tyres came on the Gemini wheels ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 61,156 ✭✭✭✭unkel

    No.

I'd pay €10k extra for a similar size car from BMW, not the iX1. Problem is the much smaller entry level BMW i4 is now nearly €25k more expensive and nearly €30k more expensive than its direct competitor, the Tesla Model 3, which is far better specced. This is simply ridiculous.

Didn't look at the tyres and didn't concentrate on tyre noise. But the quiet cabin is quite likely far more a product of a very well put together car, than from just double glazed windows. It reminded me of the Hyundai Ioniq 5. Also very quiet and a very well put together car.

Sales experience is great if you're not selling a car. Click a few buttons. Get a few texts or emails. Collect car job done.

None of the shite talking and waffling you have to do other places in the hope of knocking 500 off the price.

Most people are selling a car though. But, yes, if you're not trading in then it's not a bad experience at all - if everything goes smoothly.

Things like removing the parking sensors - and turning off radar in cars that have it - is absurd behaviour imo and makes it a needlessly difficult to commit to the brand.

The strategic execution often seems wildly haphazard - veering between incredible and maddening! TBH I would have been a bit of a believer in the Musk legend - until he bought Twitter and revealed himself to be erratic and strategically limited - I think you can see that in the Tesla "mayhem".

When musk posted a link to some conspiracy about Pelosi's husband been bashed by a man he met at a gay bar he lost me as a fan.

A man is rich in proportion to the number of things which he can afford to let alone.

But you're not buying his perfume. A friend is paying BIK on a 2019 Kona at 43k OMV. If When he switches to a Tesla M3 the OMV increases with ~6k resulting in a net decrease on his salary of 55 quid a month. The company is offloading a 4 year paddy speccd car and he uses a way better car. I'd imagine if they keep the car in the next 6 months Kona would loose 5k more than if there was no price cut. There is no musk in the equation.

I'll be joining him Tuesday for a test drive as I drive a similar Kona so who knows maybe 2 Teslas in the future(?) If anyone not able to test drive want me to pay attention to some particular things shoot. I drive a 3LR 2021 and Kona 2019 so I'd have what to compare to.

    Is that a "Musk"

    Is that a "Musk" pun?

    Well played if so 👏

With regards to delays due to changing your order, I specifically asked the Tesla guy over the phone if I changed to a LR black/black would it delay my order, he said no...

Was he incorrect and I may now be a Nov delivery?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 117 ✭✭Dasein

he probably knows the inventories are high enough to match you to another car

they don't build them to order - the option lists are short enough to mean they can build an inventory of various cars then match them to buyers

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 203 ✭✭Fantana2

Are we confident a order in the last few days will still be a Feb-Mar delivery?

When i changed my order on thursday from white + tow bar to blue no tow bar, he was confident. However this is still not reflected in my account.

hopefully that has happened and its still march delivery

I am not complaining about my Model 3, but power seems to be controlled at slow speeds, but makes for a smooth start particular for those not used to the throttle response of an EV. It soon kicks in, loads for me anyway..
