I export nothing, unless we are on our annual family holiday. Usually a car around to dump it into, but only a 4.1kWp system at the moment.

Is that best case or worst case in your opinion? 120 on motorway driving? My biggest journey would be ~285km (Athlone-Dublin-Athlone) once or twice a month. There is a supercharger + ionity on the route so wouldn’t be worst thing if I had to stop for few minutes on way back but ideally I’d like capability to do it in one charge and then charge it up at home.

Yep, I can basically sell the EV6 for what I paid for it a year ago.

I was on the fence about the SR as it had smaller battery/lower range than the Kia but the LR for the same price is worth a go.

I should add I did a 4000km trip to south of France in the Kia last year and am kind of keen to try it in the LR Model Y this year as a comparison so the battery size/charging speed makes a big difference on outlier trips like this. If I were just driving in Ireland the SR would be more than good enough for range.

According to ABRP my trip would have been quite a few hours slower with the SR than the Kia but should be probably similar or quicker in the LR.

I also had a bit of faffing with broken/occupied Ionity chargers so hopefully can avoid this with Tesla charging to increase overall trip time.

Will go for a test drive of the Model Y with new Comfort suspension next week to be sure.

I did a test drive of the Model Y with non comfort last year and while I prefered some aspects of it to Kia (bigger, I like the plain interior etc) it definitely rode way rougher and was noticeably noisier in the cabin than the Kia.

So I'll give the Tesla a go and see how I go. I have really liked the Kia so maybe it is a silly swap. That said I really like trying different cars (tend to change every 1-2 years) so this swap from the EV6 to the Model Y is really just an excuse to feed my odd addiction!

I’ve 3kw due south, 1.7kw north that gets the evening sun.

5.2 kWh battery and Eddie, so after all that there’s nothing to go into the car. WFH between us so always someone here using it.

@Im_No_Superman - you should be able to do that at motorway speeds without charging, except maybe on a bad winter's day. Then you could either drive a little bit slower or stop to charge for 5-10 minutes. If you use satnav, the Tesla will tell you if you won't make it and to slow down to say 105km/h to make it. It is very accurate too.

    Average.

It done 410km on a long run at 90km/h. So that’s one metric.

it done 360km from memory at 110km/h. That’s another.

Your 285km trip will be easy but will need a charge to get home.

PS It's probably unknown but are the Long Range Model Y's likey to have no parking sensors also or is that only a RWD issue?

The place we're staying in France is down a comically tight lane (only about 10cm to the walls either side of the Kia) and the Model Y is wider! The sensors (the Tesla ones in the car I test drove gave actual distance to objects) would be a massive help here.

No new Tesla has USS. It’s all Tesla Vision with software on the way for the car to interpret what it sees in the cameras and make a sound to mimic USS. But like VW software 3.0, it’s coming, we just don’t know when, but unlike VW, once it’s ready it will be rolled out OTA in a matter of days and you won’t have to wait months and book dealer appointments etc!

I remember on some channels people advocating a thermal blind on the roof. But have never had a problem in our temperate climate. Never had any condensation either, but car is south facing at front of house. Today was warm inside setting off at about midday. Didn't need any seat or steering wheel heating. Global warming for the win.😁

    Same set up as me.

A PITA for washing cars in the summer though!

This is a clear reaction to drop in sales and building too many cars versus their share price. It's not some altruistic push to make that cheap tesla models we were told was coming.

All the same it's great for the consumer but crap for existing owners who maybe relying on their value for trade in.

Interesting thing to happen though, maybe they are forecasting major recession in the US and a huge fall in sales I.e consumers not making big purchases.

weren’t they making 30% per car? That’s really high. With all the factories now moving to full production they can go for volume rather than high margins.

The cyber truck will be the new golden goose.

I really can’t see how people justify a German , Chinese or Korean with these new prices

For those looking at LR now, here’s a good video on winter range.

It’s worth noting that if the winter range covers your needs, the summer range is significantly higher.

It’s also worth nothing this test was done with the LG 75 kWh battery, the new cars have a 79 kWh battery so slight increase there too.

Good figures compared to its rivals and some “premium German machines” with much bigger batteries just can’t match.

    His was the 360 @ 110km/h.

he posted it on his tic tok. I’ll get one of the muppets (kids) to find it 😂

Ryansmodely I think is the user.

    Jeez.....

What a pile of stinking shite.

Demand for old models has catered and cybertruck will not be seen for 18 months - talk to a supplier

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,614 ✭✭✭eagerv

Cheers. I think it's a road I know well, last time I drove it I didn't get much above 30mpg out of a 1L Focus, the AC was working overtime once the heat hit away from the coast.

    thats what I said.

Supply couldn’t meet demand. So price and margin was high , with so much production cabability supply exceeds demand. So they cut their margins to increase demand and hence go for volume over margin.

will be , is future tense. So I’m correct in saying the CT will be the golden goose. They’ll make high margins in the initial years.

Sometimes people’s hatred for Tesla means they vent and miss the actual message they are replying to.

@ted1 - I'd say you're spot on. The Cybertruck in north America will be an unbelievable cash cow for years. I'd say margins of even the likes of 30-40% are quite likely.

Awe very good. Sure you might as well feed your odd addiction if you can afford to.

A few of us on here have the same bug 🤣

No need for funding. Buy right and you can sell at profit to cover the next car.

Can anybody comment on the advertised range of 565km of the LR on Gemini’s as shown below?

10 posts above yours if you read the thread.

I posted the breakdown with a photo table and video.

No parking sensors in any of the new ones.

It’s totally ridiculous - but you’ll get people who bend themselves in three trying to defend it

Very few on here were defending it, well pre price drop anyway!!

The cyber truck is not a golden goose. Tbf its a marketing exercise. A red herring. They won't make big numbers and it's only going to be purchased by raging enthusiasts.

I Don't hate tesla, I do despise their CEO though. I'd have no problem buying one the price drop is good business and would probably make me purchase. But their finish and interiors still do not rock my boat in comparison to even the Koreans. They have work to do to be honest and that should be their next focus. Not red herring CT vehicles.
