Will a few days next week end up being called a cold snap? Think the models today have looked better for cold weather next week. I'd be surprised if I don't at least see a few flakes next week . I'd say kermit is starting to twich a bit.........

Doesn't sound like it’ll be a bad week in Cork rain wise

The wettest conditions are predicted for northern areas with a maximum of 79 mm at Finner, Co. Donegal. Conversely, the driest conditions are predicted for parts of the south with a total of just 6 mm at Cork Airport.

That sting in the tail of it there for Wicklow showing on the models since yesterday too. The strongest winds affecting this area aren't forecast until around midnight, Met Eireann saying 100kph gusts.

Mace Head gusting over 100km for 11 hours straight now....is it the very flat location there with a body of water either side that lead to these high values? All day long, it has been higher than Belmullet, whereas with the position of this system you'd expect Belmullet to be recording higher speeds.

The winds have ramped up big time in the SE in the past hour or so. Absolutely wild out there but at least it isn't raining. Last time I remember winds this strong in the SE was Storm Barra just over a year ago

Serious gusts in Wicklow now. TBH this at least as gusty as some of the named storms.

Very windy in Greystones, North Wicklow. Lights flashed twice. Neighbours bins are blowing around the place, windows rattling. Worst winds I have seen here for quite awhile.

Gusting 55 knots atm in Greystones.

  • Administrators Posts: 55,262 Admin ✭✭✭✭✭awec

    Yea Greystones here too.

My bin flew down my garden a while ago. Been out to the garden 3 times to double check the patio furniture covers are secured! Will be going to Woodies at the weekend to buy more rope! 😁

Going by noise alone (crude measure I know!) this is the worst we've had since maybe Ophelia.

Very strong breeze in Trim with gusts hitting gale force, perhaps the occasional force 9 severe gale force gust.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,195 ✭✭✭adocholiday

Met Eireann have upped the wind forecast by quite a bit now for South Wicklow. Mean winds of 50kph and gusts up to 100kph forecast now until 5am. Greystones until 9am by the looks of things. Quite a windy spell we've had the past few days will be glad to see the back of it.

I see there are some significant power outages too closer to the coast. Ashford and Kilcoole both with very large numbers affected.

The wind or the power cut info?

Wind on Met Eireann's hour by hour breakdown and the powercut info on powercheck.ie

Yep and still going. Just outside there to the bins and it felt as gusty as I’ve felt here in a long time…

Met Eireann forecasting a mostly dry week to come here in Meath with very little in the way of rain or showers once we get tonight's rain out of the way and it will be most welcome.

I suppose its a classic toppler ,most of any precip in ulster. Dry for most with frosty nights before the Atlantic gets back in . Don't think we have had many topplers in recent winters . Wonder is the term ' toppler' just used on weather forums or would meteorologists use the term aswell? Don't think I've ever heard them use it.

Just seen that. Time for a snow and ice thread or whatever. Next week we will have some nice pics if nothing else. Today is the last quiet day till the end of next week.

Tomorrow very wet and then Sunday showers turning wintry and Monday to Thursday wintry showersand frost.

Tuesday probably the best chance of widespread snow. 1 to 4c likely max minus 3 likely min.
