Pharmacy closed, repeat prescription accessible by other pharmacies?

The pharmacy I used closed and had my new repeat prescription on file. Can other pharmacies access the prescription in their systems or do I need to get a new one now even though I still have 5 months left (and pay my GP again for the privilege)?

I'd imagine you could get the GP to email it to the new pharmacy

Yeah but I'm not sure if they'd charge me something again for the admin tasks or whatever, I was hoping it's all accessible in one central system.

There is no central system for prescription. the pharmacy that closed should have done something though. that is very bad form from them. Pharmacies dont close down overnight. Ring the GP and ask them to send it to a different pharmacy. if they are anyway decent they shouldn't charge. Its not like they have to redo the prescription, they just have to email it.

Ring the GP surgery and they will advise better but it should be on file already and they just forward to new chemist and explain what happened.

I doubt a GP would charge again. It's only an email, especially given the existing pharmacy has closed

They would have to be an arrangement with another pharmacy to take over their prescriptions. You can collect the prescription from there or get them to forward onto a pharmacy of your choosing… just need to figure out where it is… might be sign on door, or message on social media. If not GP’s might know where it is or another local pharmacy might be able to guide in the right direction.

The GP should be ok to reissue to a pharmacy of your choice (ask them first for point of contact etc) for no or very low admin fee.
