I have applied for mine on 1st Jan. No social protection payments to factor in this year and only €150ish in expenses due back so I would imagine mine should be straightforward enough. Now my preliminary report showed an overpayment of nearly €900 so unless that might delay things?

Are you jointly or singly assessed? If you are jointly assessed then the allowances are shared between you and everything is pooled. If you are singly assessed, then you can only claim off the balance of each number, and it can get complicated very quickly. Go onto www.myaccount.ie and create an account. You can claim back medical expenses such as doctors bills and drug bills not covered by the DPS scheme. You can also claim dental expenses for crowns, root canals, braces and implants. You don't always get a refund. Sometimes you can owe money too - depending on what way you were assessed.

Just adding, make sure you have receipts for everything you are claiming and keep those receipts safe for 5 years (I think) just in case there is an audit.

Can I get tax credits as a refund if the amount of the tax credits is more than the tax I owe/pay? E.g. if my annual tax amount is 7,000 Euros and my tax credits are 8,000 Euros, can I get 1,000 Euros back? Tax credit amount will be even higher with medical insurance relief + rent tax credit.

Yes but why not do both at the same time?

Yes but why would you create double the work for yourself by filing an original tax return and then coming back to file an amended one.

Usually 2-3 days but last year was over 6 weeks for me as we were selected for a random audit/spot check.

I got an email from Revenue an hour ago to say I have correspondence. Presuming it's my SOL. When I log in, it's not there though, there's no unread documents.

I'm jointly assessed, would my husband have to log in to his account to view this maybe?

SOL still saying in progress on 2022 Income Tax page.

I've checked in 2022 and 2023 and there's nothing new there. Nothing new in Unread documents either.

Yeah I got the same email, was very excited hoping it was my updated SOL!

Anyone else not enter the RTB number/landlord details for the rent tax credit? It wasn't statutory to enter and I didn't have the information so just submitted without, but I'm wondering will my claim be held because of that.
