There's an overtone to this that's kind of reminiscent, or more likely was the influence of, slightly more modern British style disco music.

Amanda Wilson, Freemasons, etc.

A good example would be the type of tracks used in the "Grand Theft Auto" subgame, "The Ballad of Gay Toney", definitely had that "disco" vibe.
