Arsenal aren't exactly paupers! I doubt City are going to try re-sign Jesus and Zinchenko after a season and I doubt Odegaard would be willing to go back to Madrid's bench!

Very few clubs hand out bigger contracts than Arsenal.

    Thanks.

It's a lot more evenly spread than I had imagined. Plenty games and opportunities to win points from rivals.

That win for Arsenal last night was massive for momentum. Newcastle is a tough game soon, along with the double Man City fixture.

I have a feeling that’s been the plan since before Arteta even left for Arsenal. City’s biggest headache was always going to be replacing Pep with a manager who can seamlessly carry on with his footballing philosophy and not having to rebuild the squad for a new style of play.

Arsenal is like an internship for Arteta, no disrespect to them. It always felt like he’s going back to carry on with the foundation that Guardiola built. For all the money spent by City, you have to commend them a little bit for the fact that they’re always thinking many years ahead. They’ve spent a disgusting amount, but they’ve usually spent it very wisely.

2-0 Chelsea. Looking pretty awesome going forward

Those are the clubs I’m talking about….Saliba, Martinelli, Odegaard, Gabriel……they will be targets for other teams. Of course they might not leave, but it seems to me that lots of things are falling for Arsenal this year and they might not get a better chance in the near term.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭doc_17

No they aren’t, but they are getting players that the big clubs don’t want and Arsenal aren’t buying from the top shelf the way others are. It’s working out this year, but this is the year to take maximum advantage. They should strengthen if they have money in January.

    Surprised Varane is playing tonight.

That's shockingly poor from Nottingham Forest 's point of view. All too easy, the commentators on Amazon hamming it up.

Jeez, and it's just got worse. Howler from Hennessey.

    Casemiro absolute diamond. Some player

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,029 ✭✭✭✭thebaz

A lot said they were buying a dinosaor, class quality player who will work well with Fred and the younger lads.

For all the sceptics, Ten Hags doing some job , coming into such a toxic environment . Expect a decent team to flourish , now that Ronaldo and his ego have left.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭doc_17

Ten Haag had no option other than to get rid of Ronaldo, and that was before the interview with Morgan. Casemiro and Eriksen playing well, good signings for the next 18 months. Another 3/4 signings before the start of next season and they coulD challenge.

They need to sort out the likes of Maguire, Wan Bissaka, De Gea, Martial and Sancho though, huge money going on those wages for players that are not in their long term plans, bar maybe Sancho.

Players needed to sort out is players ETH had no control over at being at the club and tbf has handled them well, some playing better which will hopefully we might break even on a price tag.

Casemiro and Eriksen although pushing is probably a sliding doors moment of perfect signage, an issue that's been a huge problem for utd for the last 10+ years is finally sorted, but only for the short term.

Defensively back line no worries about it to be honest, midfield will need work in time. Its the forward line of getting in a good CF,but when you look around everyone is looking at the same players.

Quite a few ageing top quality scorers going on in top tier football, Ronaldo(i know debatle the last 2 seasons but still) , Lewa, Benzema, Salah, Messi etc

Likes of Osimhen I'd like at utd, nKunu is gone to Chelsea, Darwin was and still is a hot prospect imo, Ramos in Benfica could be gotten next year for a smaller fee if he has a good club year.

I think the defence is an issue for Utd, I think the only top defender Utd have is Varane, and he’s injury prone. Maybe Shaw, but he seems to blow hot and cold. The rest are adequate, should help push for top 4 but won’t be good enough to push for a title with current defence. I’m not saying they are awful, just not brilliant.

But I’m sure, like awkward, Utd have plenty of money to address these issues.

Martinez is middling, that’s about it. His height is an issue, and it’s been exposed several times already this season. He is a quality player, but I was talking about him as a centre back. Argentina were playing Otamendi ahead of him!

He is a good a steady player something United haven't had at CB for a long time hence why he is overrated by there fans ,

Any of the top teams would be happy to have him in there squad

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,677 ✭✭✭doc_17

    Agree with the squad bit.

Martinez height is just the PaddyPower expert meme analysis.

I've never seen height being raised as an issue so much before now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,140 ✭✭✭adaminho

Michael Owen is 5,8 and was amazing at headers!

It's clear the lads going about Martinez height have rarely actually watched him play. It's utterly basic, Sounessesque commentary about him.

As for him being left out of the Argentina team, TAA doesn't get a look in for England yet according to most commentary I've seen from Liverpool fans its down to the manager not knowing what to do with him and nothing to do with the player.

    Grealish's finishing is awful

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,684 ✭✭✭FatherTed

    Grealish with Nunez-type finishing today....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,684 ✭✭✭FatherTed

    Rodri knocks it in....

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,687 ✭✭✭Did you smash it

I can’t see how Martinez’s height won’t be exposed. I’m open to being persuaded otherwise if his performances convince me but I put a lot of store in players’ body types.

It's pure 80s, Saint and Greavsie style analysis, unless the centre half is a big lump he's going to get exposed.

Watching games and seeing how little he actually gets exposed because of his height bedamned, he's not tall enough and that's that.
