Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Today is the last posting day for Christmas, better get to the post office for some stamps! On that subject...

Question 22: name the country that issued one of these Christmas stamps...

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,530 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

    WTF???

Tricky round today, here's the answers...

    Iceland, Ireland, Canada

    New Zealand, UK

    South Africa, Mexico, Australia

The clues in the pictures were...

Iceland - the bunting is the Icelandic flat

    Ireland - pretty obvious

Canada - uses English and French

New Zealand - aside from summer beach cricket, there's a silver fern in the corner

    UK - red postbox

South Africa - tough one, but I thought guessable

Mexico - wiki says "Piñatas are commonly associated with Mexico"

Australia - yeah, this one was impossible! There is an Australian flag on one of the envelopes

I've realised that the New Zealand one may have been really mistaken for Australia, but that would have been a valid answer so you'd get away with it. Oh well...

All but one answer was given, plus a couple of extras. And just a few lifelines 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,393 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Amazingly, no one went for Ireland!

New Zealand and Australia are the joint sheep, and I think the Australia guesses were lucky not to be wrong!

Trigger picks up a lovely ace, and 9 people used their lifeline!

Heidi and Aisling slipped up though

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,393 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Most of the top of the table sheeped, but Barna moves into the joint lead while Edser, DvB and Posy all move into good positions.

guiri and DvB still have their lifelines, it really could be anyone yet...

As people seemed to like the song anagrams last time, let's have another round...

Question 23: name one of the Christmas songs from the anagrams below

1 Deplored, he is the odder runner

    2 Anagram wine ya

    3 Honesty Warms Font

    4 Ms Allen Tate

    5 Hardy Symbolic

    6 This warm ethics

    7 Green Motel Dysentery Germ

    8 Handwritten Bike Mile

I'm going around singing 'Green Motel Dysentery Germ' - not really but it definitely should be a song 🤣.

I love anagrams so am having a bit of fun working these ones out. Hope I don't forget to send in my 🐑 though!

Tonight's reveal is likely to be delayed. Mammy Nitwit is flying in but her flight is delayed, so I'm not sure what time I'll be home from the airport now

So this one hour warning is very gentle, but yet to hear from...

    @Aisling(",)

    @HeidiHeidi

    @Mutleyboo

You're welcome DvB, glad you liked it. Save travels and Merry Christmas

Awww, welcome to Mrs Nitwit 😊

I was in the airport this morning at stupid o'clock and it was absolutely bedlam. Hope it's a bit better this evening 🤞

Answer gone in, for what it's worth (and hopefully in time)..... my only challenge left at this stage is to stay off the bottom of the page 😭 - and I was so proud of myself getting up near half way at one point!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,393 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Yeah, chaos here. Will be a pretty late reveal tonight

Big spread of scores, with a nice ace for jluv

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,393 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Which means a joint lead going into the final day. Guiri has a lifeline though, so Barna will really need an ace tomorrow

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,393 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Final question, and we go back to where we started with a geography picture round

Question 24: name one of the cities from the Christmas markets below...

...oh, and one hour warning for @HeidiHeidi 😋

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,530 ✭✭✭✭HeidiHeidi

Sorry, sorry - holding up the show again!

First one i haven't had a bulls notion of a single one!!

Great series, EN - well done!!

Happy Christmas 🎄 to one and all!

    Today's answers...

    Cologne, London, Vienna, Edinburgh

    Prague, Galway, Bruges, Manchester

Every answer was given (and a few wrong ones!) and there were two aces... was one Barna?!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,393 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Let's see the top of the table. Guiri played his lifeline, so has a final score of 94. Only Barna could match that, and only with an ace...

Barna's guess today was Edinburgh, which was correct....

...but was also given my MutleyBoo and Necro!

Which means the winner of the 2022 FoG Advent Calendar is guirienespana, congratulations!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,393 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Here's the full answers. Perhaps predictably, London is the sheep.

It's Neowise and DejaBoo who ace. Extra glory to Deja who didn't use her lifeline!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,393 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

So here's our final table. Guiri and Barna are the top two, and DvB rounds out the podium positions.

Butty takes a truly unassailable wooden spoon!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,393 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

So there we are, we made it!

Thanks for playing everyone, hope you enjoyed it

Have a wonderful Christmas, see you next year for more fun and games :)

Only noticed the final standings on this now, surprised I finished as high as I did, last time I had checked I was mid table...

Look forward to this again later in the year.

Sorry guys, not this year 😔

I didn't come up with any good ideas for it, and I don't think I'd have the time anyway. Also, I'm not sure we'd get that many players over in FOG these days

Never say never, but I think it's time may have passed

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,479 ✭✭✭✭DvB

Shame that. Understand totally on the lack of time bit though.

I just saw your post on FoG and checked here. That's a pity but real life can get in the way.

Maybe someone here would like to take the helm?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,393 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Yeah, when I started this I had a one year old who'd fall asleep on top of me, allowing me lots of time online

Now I've a five year old and a three year old, the run up to Christmas is pretty hectic 😋
