Apparently 2023 Ioniq 5s in UK have the ability to preheat simply by selecting a charger on the Hyundai sat nav.

Downside is that you are then dependent on how up to date the Hyundai Sat Nav is re charging sites

There's meant to be a software update for current cars for that isn't there?

    Edit:

Found a link to an Irish guy getting it done.

    There is that for sure.

Model Y no looker from the outside, but definitely feels more airy and premium on the inside over the Ioniq 5.

I'm trying to establish a use case for V2L - I guess it's one of those things that you'll find a use for if you have it, but won't if you don't etc.

Agreed that self park is a bit of a gimmick.

Platinum on or around March 12th or Model Y around the same time frame, possibly a couple of weeks earlier at best.

Does a fast dc charging cable come with the car? If I want to use eg Ionity do I need the cable or is that attached to the charging station?

edit I know a type 2 cable comes I am only wondering about fast charge

All fast chargers have their own cables.

Thanks for that info. What type of speeds are people seeing irl of type 2 chargers like esb at J14 (50kW)

I find I regularly get 130kw at the ESB 150kW chargers which is loads as I usually stop for toilet breaks/ meals.

I think I got over 150kW at Ionity Athlone once but Ionity City North and Cashel were restricted to 100 kW when I used them which is disappointing when they cost so much.

Thanks a million, I have the 77kW coming in March/April and reckon I would only ever need a half charge anywhere in the country to get me home from a full day trip. This is great that there are some chargers which will speed up the journey (wait times a different issue!!)

My 58kWh got me from Dublin 2 to Westport (with two short detours) last Friday morning. I normally stop for a top-up en route to or from the Big City but decided to chance it this time. Got home with 3% in the tank.

Out of curiosity what speed were you doing on the motorway to get that? Seems like a very good range for this weather

Pretty much speed limit driving after Maynooth. I was pleasantly surprised myself.

I forgot to mention that that was with four good-sized adults and all their luggage on board also.

I made a lot of good use of it camping with the family cooking my breakfast and making coffee, hoovering the car and running a few household appliances in powercuts (had a few).

It's also future proofed setup for V2G, hard to know if the model Y is I suspect it might be a Sw update but hard to know with Tesla as mentioned earlier in the thread might be seen as direct internal competitor to the Powerwall.

Had a look there I've put up about 32k km in nearly a year. Used public charging about 55 times during the year was mainly on trips to Dublin from Galway and staycations. Twas about 680 kWh in total which worked out the bones of 300 euro most of that was fast chargers.

If you doing motor way driving above 100kph your range will be effected. During the summer a drive to Dublin from Galway can take 60/70% charger on 72kwh battery.

Majority of my charging for day to day travel was at work. But would have charged up to 100% at home for long trips and trickle charged from solar panels when working fro home.

Never really went below 20% so far on any trips and don't charge above 80% on fast chargers. Those are the recommendations from some OEMs others say can charge to 100% no issues but I err on the side of caution incase it effects resale. Was looking at ID4 I was told by a dealer that the numbers of times fast chargers were used and % charged to is logged and could effect resale and PCP (but that could be complete b***ix).

No need to pet a battery like that as technology has come on a lot from the likes of the early nissan leaf batteries. Charge to 100% and drive it down to as close to 0% as you dare whenever you need the range. Only real advice needed is not to leave the car sat below 30% or over 80% for several days or weeks like when parking it up for a weekend or leaving it in an Airport for a week. Advice you got from VW is probably some crap from a dealer conference to encourage customers to mind the batteries to prevent VW from paying out claims on the 8yr battery warranty.

I find it doesn't open up fully on the struts, I'm constantly banging my head on it as when I lift it up, I expect it to keep opening but it just stops. The Tucson used to open fully once it passed a certain point. I'll raise it when it goes in for its service

I believe there's a setting for that. In case you didn't try setting it yet, you may want to look into this topic.

How do you mean it’s future proofed for V2G? Are you referring to the Ioniq or Modem Y? I didn’t think the I5 had any V2G capabilities but happy to be corrected!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 807 ✭✭✭podge1979

Ioniq 5, it is capable of V2L is capable for V2G also all that's needed is a bidirectional charger.

Hyundai has started some pilots using Ioniq 5

Beauty is definitely subjective. Im in agreement that the Ioniq 5 is probably one of the best EV's out there. However to me it looks like a futuristic over sized mark II golf. And again if that's your thing then Bingo. I just couldn't bring myself to buy one. Bought an ID4, probably an inferior car tech wise but to me its a better looking car (But my no means a good looking car) with possible good resale being a VW.

Just in my Hyundai garage dropping off a couple of bottles to sales guy (who was great) to say sorry as got an Ariya…at least 10 Ioniq 5s inside the showroom and lots outside. A lot of very happy Ioniq owners straight after New Year. They’ve in the 20s of new cars per day going out early in New Year. Although Nissan seem to be a disaster as regards supply, he said a number of Hyundai PHEVs/EV models impacted by shortages and they’ve been told to stop taking orders.

Something I didn’t know, he said Ukraine war also been a contributing issue as certain parts on certain vehicle models were coming from there and not easy or short to find and set up alternative production.

That's good info. I take it they have no issue selling your car. Did they refund your deposit? I take it from the nature of the interaction that they did.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭Corporatemarky

No probs selling it all, he had a waiting list, first call took it and delighted 😀. Zero issue with deposit, on the way back. Garage awesome, always has been, know the principals for couple of decades…parted on great terms..

That's brilliant. Worked out nicely for everyone so. Best of luck with the Ariya. Very attractive looking car in the metal.

I knew VW were impacted with wiring looms from Ukraine (I think they practically relocated a plant) didn't know Hyundai were impacted with suppliers from Ukraine.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭Corporatemarky

Me neither but I guess the guy would know..

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 807 ✭✭✭podge1979

You'd think that, but you get a lot of different speals from salesmen. I remember when mine came in I was giving him updates on how far off the ship was and when it came into cork etc.

Ioniq 5's are built in Korea so would have thought practically all the suppliers would have been based in Asia.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 105 ✭✭Corporatemarky

The issue may be nickel supply (key components in EV / PHEV batteries, the interweb suggests Russia was a big producer and of course now that’s off limits..
