Was a fantastic show - got the impression this was the type of event Bono has wanted to do for a long time, to show off his acting/comedic chops - to be fair, he's got both. Also thought he got the balance right between peak-Bono ego stuff and enough self-awareness to take the piss out of himself.

Voice was in fine fettle (some cracking stripped down versions) and he's in good shape, so augurs well for any upcoming tour.

On subject of which - since we are all u2 fans here - last show I saw them at 3arena was distinctly underwhelming. To your point, heavily choreographed, but my big gripe really is that its completely taken over by the massive video screens.

Would love to see U2 put on a stripped back performance that relies on the music, and is done without any screens - especially if its a smaller venue like 3arena.

I think it will go the other way...Last time out, The Joshua Tree anniversary tour was stripped back by their standards - given they will be the first act in the MSG Sphere (which is basically a massive iMAX concert venue) in Vegas, I reckon it will be all-in on the visuals - possibly a re-imagining of Achtung Baby.

Thanks - its a pity. At the last gig I remember standing in the crowd about 30 or 40 feet away from the Edge when he was doing playing the intro to Pride - iconic riff. The problem was - i was facing one way looking at the guitarist, everyone else in the crowd was facing in a different direction looking at the screen. It was weird. Just not a fan of big screens, there is nothing innovative about them. They are musicians at the end of the day.

Several rumours about a 2nd leg of the bono solo tour, most eminating from a mention of the word “early access” in this instagram story post, with a countdown, aka u2 dot com members having early access to tickets, official announcement at 14:00 irish time today:

Bono and Edge are doing an invite only event in Dublin on Wednesday, I'd imagine it's connected. Maybe with Larry out of action Bono and Edge will hit the road!

I’d say its an extension of the Bono solo tour, the Dublin event with Edge/Bono, is already boxed off, Irish fanclub susbscribers got an email a week ago about this, and were offered the chance to attend. Its likely the Dec 14th event is this years Busk for Simon, behind closed doors, as per last year

Correction, we were offered the chance to send an email to be entered into a lottery to have a chance to attend

That was a bit of a disapointment.

Anybody got a presale link/code for the NYC Beacon shows they are not using?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,894 ✭✭✭fafy

    Not really,

initially this was supposed to be just the dozen or so appearances, end of.

Now, as more announced, means there could be several more added in U.S. and over here also, hardly anyone saw the 1 Olympia gig, with its relatively tiny capacity, and the reviews were universally positive.

FYI, The U2 fanclub Presale started and finished yesterday , members got an email with links and code.

Anybody know what the behind closed doors, invite only event in Dublin today with Bono and Edge was about? Anybody lucky enough to have been invited? No such luck myself!

I was hoping for a more significant announcement myself. Granted I was blown away by the Surrender show, I just felt he has done that now, time to get back to U2.... new album, tour etc. I thought the event today would have been the announcement of either Songs of Ascent or a 2023 / 2024 tour, or the Vegas / MSG shows.

Originally i thought it might be part of “The Busk”, But, looks like its a promotional film, for the “Songs Of Surrender” - U2 album, of reinvented versions of their songs. being released soon.

    Amazing! Lucky you!

Any chance you can share some details? Was it snippets of the Surrender show with Edge in the mix?

Achtung Baby was by far my favourite U2 album but the new gift from the fan club is a bit underwhelming. Most of the live performances they selected aren't great. Won't be listening to this much over Christmas.

Oh that's dissapointing to hear! I was so underwhelmed by The Apollo album... It really wasn't a great performance!

They should have a fan voting poll next year! Next year's gift might be based around the Surrender tour as Larry is out of action for the year!

Be interesting but why ruin a good thing by rerecording

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 786 ✭✭✭RolandGoose

For love or money money money more money!... That kinda thing! I was blown away by the Surrender performance in the Olympia. A DVD release would be interesting. Re-recording a career retrospective seems an odd move for the band that don't like to look back. Ah well, I'll give it a listen! Hopefully LMJ recovers well and is back in action for 2024. I wouldn't be into a U2 tour without him!

Money, money, boys are money hungry.

Anyone see the prices for Bonos New York shows.

Half the venue Platinum at 600-700 dollars.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,321 ✭✭✭MOR316

About the going rate. 200 dollars for a basketball ticket, Broadway is very expensive.

Like after a lifetime on the road the lads, their management and the promoters don't know how to price an event.

    It's showbusiness baby.

Limited schedule, small venues with a devoted fan base which includes wealthy people means perfect to charge €500 a ticket
