Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

Yeah, so one player must play twice the opening night.

If this wasn't the case you wouldn't have any 2nd round game and thus a "headlining" seed on the first night. It's also tradition i believe for the reigning champion to play the first night which couldn't happen if you had no second round game.

Even at that i don't really see the problem. Players should and probably are used to playing multiple games in a day. UK Open - they could play 3-4 games a day i believe. Recent edition of the PL, players played up to 3 games in an evening.

Anyway looking forward to the Championship

Ill go with MVG to win

The most ridiculous price I’ve ever seen.

He has a ton of potential, that’s pretty much it as this stage.

Has no chance of winning this, should be 100/1 shot.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,880 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

Maybe the Bookies don't want a repeat of Rob Cross

  • Registered Users Posts: 437 ✭✭TipsyMcStagge

You'd be better off back Cross at 33s than throwing money away on Rock at 14s.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,028 ✭✭✭boomdocker

Be very interesting to see how he handles the long format games

Don't think he's a 100-1 shot but yes 14-1 is nuts, especially when you looks at the players available at 33's and higher - Cross, Aspinall, DvdB, Noppert

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,280 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

Yeah don’t get me wrong I’m looking forward to seeing him play in it and hope he does well.

Rob Cross had done a lot more before the 2018 Worlds and he was about the same price.

100/1 might be a touch big but while I don’t think the following players will win they are as capable of a deep run to the quarters as he imo.

    Barney 80/1

    de Sousa 100/1

    Ratajski 125/1

    Gurney 125/1

    Lewis 150/1

Think Gurney will be one of the seeds too go in Round 2

Mansell, Barry, wattimena, wright my shouts for tonight.

First game v difficult to call

  • Registered Users Posts: 1,760 ✭✭✭Dillonb3

Think Ben Robb might edge Mansell. He looked decent in the world cup of darts and Mansell has a rotten record at this.

I'm expecting the first match to be a drab drawn out match like last year's was

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,880 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

That's what Stuart Pyke looks like

    Mansell speed up ffs

    Really poor start from Barry.

    Barry all over the place

Really sloppy performance from Barry. As TBL mentioned above his darts always land into the board at really awkward looking angles.

Can't see him getting back into this. He is all over the shop.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,629 ✭✭✭ThebitterLemon

His head is gone by the looks of it. The doubling from both of them has been atrocious

Can't fault Sampson there 2 big 180's hit in the last 2 legs. Barry really poor

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,527 ✭✭✭irishgeo

    38 trebleless visits by Barry.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,280 ✭✭✭✭mdwexford

That was one atrocious game of darts.

Barry was 1/18 at the start!!

    Those averages were BDOesque!

I'd say Barry thought he just had to turn up tonight

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,880 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

    Pity about Keane Barry

Hopefully he can recover and be back next year. Its getting very hard for the lower seeds to qualify now

The sport is in a great place

The poorest I've seen Barry play in some time. Really awful performance. I know his darts always go in at awkward angles but it looked worse than usual tonight.

If possible, he should really try changing the angle that his darts land in the board. I think it makes him such an inconsistent player.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,880 ✭✭✭✭PTH2009

There must be 100s of boards in the building, is it a new board for each match ?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,037 ✭✭✭Cosmo Kramer

I know he's young but I find Keane Barry a frustrating watch. He's clearly talented, but I'd say he'd need to completely redesign his game if he's ever going to consistently challenge at the top level. Never feel confident watching him, even when he's having his better days, something just always looks off with his throwing style.

Well done Nathan, kept composure under what must have been serious pressure on your debt

    Hugely disappointing night for Barry.

    Still only 20.

Hopefully his best days are ahead of him.

    State of Wright!

Did he do the same last year?

    This new main-comm is horrendous.

Tries too hard to emphasise random words.

Only one player averaged over 90 tonight, poor opening standard.

2 sessions tomorrow, afternoon one thrown in. Working from home might have its perks…..

Saturday and Sunday crowds be some laugh with the mix of 11am and 8pm starts due to the world cup

Looking forward to tonight. Does anyone think Beau can do it ? If she plays her A game she's a better player than Willie. All down to nerves

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,707 ✭✭✭roosterman71

She certainly can do it but I suspect she won't. Inexperience may count against her.

Will she go to Q-school next year? I'd love to see her try it and get on the tour. She'd progress on a lot better than on the womens tour then.

Good chat ith her here as well. She seems very grounded.

  • Registered Users Posts: 437 ✭✭TipsyMcStagge

I've been saying it for ages Barrys darts go in the board wrong and he'll never win anything until he sorts out his throw its just wrong he goes low way to often and then blocks the treble with the lie it is all wrong. Mansell was a s drunk as a skunk up there I'm surprised he made it back out for the Wright game still he's banked a nice 15k for beating Robb who was abysmal. Rafferty was the most impressive player on display last night showed real guts and maturity to see of Wattimena.

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 12,294 Mod ✭✭✭✭Kingp35

The crowd will be on Beau's side and Willie isn't exactly level headed, he lets things get to him far too easily, so I think a lot depends on how he handles the crowd.

Beau has plenty of on stage experience so that shouldn't be an issue. She's usually a 80's average player but also averages much higher on occasion. It's a fascinating match but I think Willie wins.

Cuming averaging 63. I'd beat him. Useless.

Nice gesture but a bit lousy for us paying for Sky Sports

Very poor quality picture from both Sky Main Event and Sky Darts channels. My picture keeps going very blurry and out of focus 😩

Underwhelming start to the arrows so far.
