France seem happy to sit back on this lead. England certainly look like scoring here.

    England piling on the pressure.

    ITV

"Ref and linesman conspire to award the GK"

    Terrible language, but not unexpected

I mean it’s hard to ignore how one-sided this refereeing performance has been so far. I’d have more sympathy if it wasn’t at England’s expense.

I’m not referring to the correct VAR decision, just to be clear.

Walker stole about 15 yards on that throw in

That shot for the goal was only 4.2rps, looked more than that - glad it was cleared up.

Saka is going to get nothing tonight it seems

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 6,235 ✭✭✭This is it

Saka making a nuisance of himself, looks like a threat every time he has the ball

He sounded like a petulant child when peter Waldon said there was no foul before the France goal.

Suddenly everyone's got a short free kick routine

boys against men, the only worry is a Hereford type scenario, but at this point Gareth looks like a pleasant Mike Bassett, Engurlund manager

This first half is just fizzling out.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 38,716 ✭✭✭✭BorneTobyWilde

How is that not a foul, and they said VAR would have looked at it.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,359 ✭✭✭✭Osmosis Jones

I get that there have been some bad calls (for both sides mind) but they're acting like England should get a free kick any time they're tackled.

A refereeing performance from the school of Mario Yamasaki tonight. Anything goes.

Tchouameni and Bellingham are the gold standard. Pedri and Gavi nowhere near

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,903 ✭✭✭cmac2009

French passing and ball control is sublime at times, but still see England getting a goal here at some stage.

    Untitled Image

Are people saying that Kane has a foot outside the box so no penalty, even though '' the foul'' very much took place inside the box

It has been explained above. VAR did look at it. It was a foul outside the box. The ref would only bring the play back if it was a penalty.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2, Paid Member Posts: 15,905 ✭✭✭✭ctrl-alt-delete

Nothing wrong with that from Bellingham, just a clash. Why did the ref stop it though?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,434 ✭✭✭TheRiverman

Stupid movement by English players for that corner, then Foden kicks it over all of them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,643 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

I'd say England shaded that half on the balance of play, yet are a goal down. They've done a good job keeping Mbappe quiet and France aren't offering much in attack. My pre-game nerves haven't been eased much as I see England getting a goal.

So if Kane was on the ground, with a toe outside the penalty box, and a defender kicked him in the face 6 foot inside the box, it would not be a foul as Kane has a toe outside the box ??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 21,198 ✭✭✭✭gormdubhgorm

I thought France were playing within themselves controlling it. I think it is likely France score on the counter as England have to push forwards.

Commentary on ITV sounds very downbeat at HT after the initial opening bluster talk.

Guff about stuff, and stuff about guff.

no complaints about the possible penalty, looked outside but was a foul, the foul on saka is as clear as you like though.

Both teams probably wanted to be set up to counter attack so advantage definitely France, but as an England fan I’m still oddly hopeful

So much happened after the Saka foul, it's a non-starter as an argument. Poor from England, and frankly, a keeper with longer arms would make a better fist of the strike.

    100% a foul on Saka,

Not as clear on Kane, although his upper body was going to ground inside the box it isn't as clear that his feet are on the line - looks more like it from behind but not the other angle.

England will be upset with that but there is something in this for them if they can put it behind them, the only worry and others have mentioned it is that France will love to hit on the counter.
