All teslas come with mats. Yes.

mudflaps yes. Although crap. I put aftermarket ones on.

    Discounts. No.

Anyone else a bit miffed at Tesla dropping the ultrasonic sensors? Just spotted this video of a new MY Performance from Berlin and it seems to give no indication whatsoever when approaching objects (big or small) at slow speeds. I can understand relying on the vision system for parking if it actually worked but shipping >€50k cars with no parking assistance seems like a mistake to me.

Yes it's crap tbh and I won't be buying another Tesla until that is resolved

Agreed, I had a 3hr round trip Tuesday night and it was multiple cameras blocked messages all night, if they are blocked then they can't assist with parking.

That message is a pain.(the blocked camera one)

Blocked by darkness, too much light, the "wrong kind" of light, blah blah.

Yes its crap, autopilot is crap now.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,191 ✭✭✭mun1

My Q4 is giving the same message about safety assist systems disabled due to camera blocked during this type of weather. Still i do depend on the parking sensors so hope the MY issue os sorted before car arrives

If the current cameras are blocked then so will the new delivery cameras as the housing is the same (they are just higher resolution cameras), also they will not work in low blinding sun, especially with wet roads

I have my Y reservation in a while back but will be waiting to see how the lack of USS goes, initial UK feedback is very bad

Yes the autopilot based only on cameras is super crap. Compared to radar based one in my prior S and X, it's night and day. I would not buy this now and won't buy another tesla until they either change this back to radar (which is mooted already), or it is made better. I can only imagine the same for parking sensors. Thankfully my 3 (sep 2022) still has parking sensor by radar

Agreed - I think that they should do what they did with the regen braking unavailable message - have it as an icon at the right hand side of the screen as on my can, I have the blocked camera message for 80% of my driving time...

Yes, it's piss poor and been handled badly imo.

Why remove them before Tesla Vision is ready and working? If its worldwide shortage of USS then say it and offer to retrofit or give an expected date for TV.

This head in the sand approach is crap

Edit: that said, it's not a showstopper for me and I'm looking forward to collection day. Would still prefer having a warm fuzzy feeling knowing it'll be sorted properly and not left disadvantaged

They should have had the software sorted before moving on to no longer use radar / ultrasound. There's no excuse for this, they rushed it. It wasn't ready. Bad.

That said, from reading / watching a lot more about the vision behind it - pardon the punch 😂 - is that they believe that in full self driving mode the three of these senses might conflict, making it hard for a computer to make a decision. Tesla has a track record of having an open mind and not using what other people use and removing things that aren't absolutely necessary. And after all, us humans do a pretty ok job at driving and we only have our eyes, we don't have radar or ultrasound either.

Maybe Lidar is the way to go if you can believe the hype around the EX90

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 60,113 ✭✭✭✭unkel

Again, in Tesla's view, lidar is not one of the human senses, so not needed for driving based on vision only and again possibly conflicting with the outcome of other technology based sensors. Tesla has chosen the path of vision only and if you look at the latest FSD videos, it is doing a remarkable job. Now available in nearly a million cars.

I thought Tesla's motivation for removing USS was to maximise profits, not because they believed that vision only was the best way navigating because that's the way humans do it. Humans also use hearing to complement vision when moving, in order to detect nearby objects, that's our USS.

Tesla will always try to replace hardware which can fail, with software that can fixed and deployed OTA.

There are rumours that radar will be reinstalled in 2023 cars once they have firmed up supplies from a new manufacturer (in Spanish, but use Google Translate if you need to or see the tweets therein https://forococheselectricos.com/2022/12/tesla-volvera-instalar-radar-coches-2023.html). They dumped these sensors to keep production going while building their Tesla Vision project, but looks like will compromise back a little from camera-everything. Of course, the defense of the new sensors is that they are better than before following the usual tech-speak. They probably are better, but I wonder how it affects cars that already have 'legacy' sensors? Will they keep a branch in the software to retain the use of these as they were?

Vision sensors are all well and good when they can see, during this weather mine are constantly (Model 3) blocked 24/7

Oh Tesla wants to maximise profits alright, and they should. That should be the main aim for each and every commercial company in the world. And Tesla are particularly good in removing stuff that is not necessary (in order to make the car simpler, easier and cheaper to make, so more profitable). But I believe that is not their motivation for removing the sensors.

Yup same. Multiple cameras blocked or blinded... at night by oncoming cars.

    Great product!! (Not!)

How do you cancel an order?

  • Moderators, Sports Moderators Posts: 18,482 Mod ✭✭✭✭slave1

that's because the click baiters are waiting for the first bit of news and then all launch into the same postings, like the cloaked Model 3 last week, was everywhere on YT

email them with your order number. Tell them you want to cancel.

When Tesla says it won't be 'marketed', does that mean it will be another number of months after that before they begin installing it in their cars? Or would they begin installing it straight away? I wonder will it only be available on Performance spec initially until they have solid supply lines in place? I can't see it being included in a Feb/March delivered MIC.

Ahh here.. autonomous driving is an attempt to make things safer from the dangers of human driving. If I could have Lazer eyes I'd take them.

With modern day SW and processing multi sensory maps can be built. You need redundancy of sensors the logic can take the input of the most reliable Input and use another as backup.

Vision only will not work as vision won't catch everything in certain environmental conditions so don't appear on your vision map.

The key to autonomous driving is and will be lidar and that's getting cheaper and cheaper.

They remove things based on cost only, also looks like their vision bet will not work and regulators will never buy it either for fully Autonomous driving (at least until all cars on the road at fully autonomous). The biggest danger to autonomous cars will not be other autonomous it will always be clowns behind steering wheels using their "human super vision"
