But his selfish Trump like attitude can bring teams down. What was the stat I heard; 55 free kicks Rolando took for Portugal and only one goal. Don't they let Fernandez take free kicks? He's a better shot. Juventus lost a lot of free kick goals too due to him driving every ball into the wall.

Given that he’s been capped 195 times I’d imagine he’s taken way more frees then 55 surely. Seemingly he’s scored way more then 1 from his stats.

In other news Samuel Eto'o managed to swing a leg at the World Cup even though his playing days are long behind him as the president of the Cameroon FA was captured on video kneeing an Algerian youtuber in the face outside a stadium in Qatar when he asked him a question he didn't like.

Maybe it was one goal out of the last 55 takes that I heard. But what I am sure of is that he scored one free kick goal for Juve out of 43 takes.

There is a huge Moroccan population in France… great win, to be celebrated rightly…… but there is a bit of trouble right now in Paris… lots of streets blocked off by supporters and seemingly from some live footage I’ve just witnessed…..some violence……..

The majority of the current Moroccan squad at the world cup were born in France and the Netherlands and not in Morocco. Other players are from Belgium, Italy, Canada, and Spain.

"In 1998, Morocco's World Cup squad had only two players born outside of the country. This time around, they have 17 diaspora players"

For all the Moroccan descent present in France, they have never made that much of an impression on the French National Team. The West Africans and Algerians have had much more presence and impact.

Same story with what Wenger brought to Arsenal - a lot of West African and Algerians.

Chamakh was one but was a disaster.

    World Cup top scorers 2022

Going into the quarter finals, Mbappe has 5 and there are 7 players on 3, including 2 from England. Valencia, Ecuador and Morata, Spain are going home on 3 as well. There were 15 on 2 goals, but only 2 left now.

6 goals is the most common winner since the 32 team format in 1998. In those 6 tournaments, the only time the Golden Boot came from the champions was Ronaldo Brazil in 2002.

Thankfully it's not going to be a farce of a situation like Kane in 2018 - 5 penalties and the only "open-play" goal was an unintentional deflection off his heel.

    that was a joke.

Was live on tiktok, The live is over…looked like the North East of the city near Bastille..

Lots of Police on the champs Elysses. CRS guys….The majority of what i saw was in the 20th arrondissment, north east… a Moroccan stronghold apparently I’m reading. More in Bastille. Hopefully over exuberance and it calms dows but there was no need for throwing glass bottles.

I think that was 3 penalties. And he has 3 Golden Boots in the Premier League, equal with Shearer and Henri. He seems to get all the luck.

It is just as much a reflection on all the other top strikers, that no other player could do better than 4 goals.

One goal from 55 free kicks at ‘major international tournaments’

3 penalties and one deflection that he knew nothing about as the ball hit off his heel with him not facing the ball, accounting for 4 of his 6 goals or 66.66%

That is certainly not the spirit of the award.

3 of the goals also came against Panama, the worst team in the competition.

He has been a decent striker in the premier league but then again Salah has as many golden boots in 5 prem seasons where Kane has played over 10.

And he's not going to win another one with man city's arrival.

And that has nothing to do with the world cup anyways.

Mbappe, Griezmann, Ronaldo, Lukaku and a Russian were next best with 4 goals each. As I say a very poor return from such exalted company. Maybe in the spirit of things, one of them should have got the award.

So it will have to go down as the shittiest Golden Boot Award of any world cup - or at least of any in the last 40 years anyways.

Here's his heel "goal" to go with his 3 penos.

While I haven’t seen the entire tournament Portugal have been the most impressive to my eyes. I’m not a fan of their team usually & not a Ronaldo fan at all

I don't think that comment aged well given that Portugal are in the same side of the draw as England and France...

The quarter finals are pretty much as expected, with one upset Morocco in place of Spain \ Belgium. And Morocco drew with Croatia also.

    Just checking Livescore

    Stockport County vs Charlton Athletic

    Doesn't really whet the appetite

The Ronaldo situation is annoying me.....watched replay of France yesterday, just how well Griezmann and Dembele are playing - and yet nobody really talking about them. Yesterday, superb by Dias and Silva, and yet nobody really talking about it. And yet this f**ker......people wont shut up about him. Move on please, and lets give credit where its due. Its really tired and lazy of newspaper journalists to just continually zone in on Ronaldo.

I've said it here before about the draws they get for qualifying and in the groups. I'm not a believer in conspiracy theories but there has been wide spread proven corruption within FIFA and organized soccer for years. The handy draws for England are just a bit suspect at this stage.

Although it does show the need to keep your seeding as high as possible. Something we have constantly failed to do due to inept management.

Doesn't add up though... if they were that handy at giving themselves an easy draw surely by now they'd have landed a World Cup to host!

In 2014 they got Italy and Uruguay as they weren't a top seed and didn't get out of the group.

In 2018 they weren't a top seed and were in same group as Belgium. They came second in the group and their expected match-up would have been Germany but Germany didn't get out of their group so they got Sweden instead. No one could have predicted that.

Now they are a top seed, more likely to get an easy group and then top the group and so avoid another top seed until the QF. It shows the importance of your comment about keeping up your seeding \ ranking.

England have to play France next, they weren't jammy this time. And possibly Portugal after that who just put the best display of the tournament on, although I wont be surprised if Morocco keep going.

Hopefully France and Mbappe beat them on Saturday but they've been as impressive as anyone else in this tournament and could go on to win it.

Morocco were involved in the worst game of the tournament and couldn't finish their breakfast in front of goal so I hope Portugal beat them.

They remind me of Greece at Euro 2004 except less good at headers at corners.

You must be livid then with Germany France, Britain, Netherlands, Italy and Belgium.

What you describe there was a conspiracy, to favour England over other countries. Part of the proven corruption in FIFA.

Why on earth would FIFA favour England? Surely they’re more likely to try to screw them over

Money. The money it would generate for football and Fifa if England were to win a world cup would be astronomical. Again not saying it is happening but nothing would shock you with Fifa.
