Why would we revere the likes of Liam Lynch, De Valera and their ilk? They set about sabotaging the new state, they were traitors.

Joe back in the comfort zone. How lucky for him that all these callers voluntarily decided to ring in today to discuss his favourite subject!

As an incomer who read as much as I could about the early years of the state, I formed the opinion that if Dev and others hadn't stamped their feet in a fit of pique and fecked off, the Civil War would never have happened and people would just have got on with the necessary business of building a working state.

Leo and Micheal Martin shook hands in the name of political expediency - not for any great ideals

I wouldn't mind but Fine Gael are cut from the same cloth as Sinn Fein.... They seem to forget that

I love history, but this is really boring, and shîte

Problem is, “England” was a group of warring Germans and Danes (not even actually “Britain/UK”, but we are obliged to put up with their nonsense of them being a unitary state and pacifying the place

Rudimentary Irish (and British) history in the early modern era obviously destroys that agenda, but what was once an imperialist farce theory held by sociopaths is now promoted as PC and, dare I say, the old canard ‘maturity’

Did this lad just say his father fought the Black & Tans?? Is that possible? I suppose just about if he was conceived when he was well on.

They are effectively the same party....it's daft that there's a few thick politicians in both parties (who probably can't even spell treaty) that hold onto some 100 year old grudge over something that their parents weren't even alive for

I’d say Diarmuid Ferriter is clearing out the office after listening to this. No way he’d compete! 🤪

Europe was essentially a collection of small kingdoms and clans in those centuries and we were just part of that culture. Sure there were regional kings that others submitted too but there is no sense that the island of Ireland had any sort of national identity then.

    This man is a moron

    Typical Blueshirt

DeValera and the rest did not support a state created by Churchill against the wishes of the Irish voters actually, threatening terror

All getting a bit too real for Joe, there.

    His arse cheeks were squeaking.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,796 ✭✭✭An Claidheamh

Yes I know, but the 18th - 19th century imperial ideology, and to this day, etc tries to imply “England” was a unitary state, hundreds of years before it actually was

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,524 ✭✭✭leath_dub

Joe gets an unexpected punch in the piss right at the end

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,796 ✭✭✭An Claidheamh

What was the point of that segment?

Is this part of Joe gunning to get his name on more memorials?

Also, there was some similar Free State Army nonsense some months ago from one of Joe’s friends from a Yacht Club, clearly not caller driven

These people need to get over memorials, there are tonnes to the British army and none to the WoI, Easter Rebels or IRA

Ah I thought things were going to take off there after the "yew can't say dat" got thrown out

"You never ever referred to Martin McGuinness or Gerry Adams as freedom fighters Joe"

He was instantly on the back foot there
