Completely clueless with this stuff but I want to extend wifi to the end of the garden where I work in an office.
I have a booster but it won't reach. Overall we're talking about 40 to 50ft from the modem to where I work in the garden office.
Any help is much appreciated.
Get yourself a mesh wifi system. It shows up as a single network. one node near your modem, one beside nearest window to your shed. Plenty of cheap options out there.
So, something like this? https://www.amazon.co.uk/TP-Link-Deco-E4-Seamless-Replacement/dp/B07RXLF5XZ/ref=asc_df_B07RXLF5XZ/?tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=262248947449&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=2667195220353784616&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9047193&hvtargid=pla-780409193883&psc=1&th=1&psc=1
What speed internet so you have?
Also what size/build your is your house? Is your shed blocks, wooden, steel?
It's Eir 500mb Fibre. Speed test averages around 43 to 50Mbps download and 0.05 Mbps upload.
Modem is at front of house. Shed is at the back.
Houe is a modern 3bed semi detached. Shed is wooden, cabin type of garden office. No blocks.
Don't get the E4, speed is limited to 100Mb by the older standard ethernet ports on it.
S4 only £10 dearer and has Gb ports.
You pay for 500mb but only achieve 50? It's that testing over wifi? You should plug in at your router and get a true test result.
As above get a system that will give you the benefit of your 500mb connection. I got the below TPlink recently. (I think it was 259 in Curry's, but Harvey Norman price matched it)
Simple to install, and had worked well so far. I used it as my modem as well.
I get 470/50 over wifi with it.
Wooden shed will give good results. Metal ones can be like a faraday cage sometimes.
Similar issue here, I am with Sky at the moment on Gigabit FTTH. Their router is crap to be honest, I was with VF before and was much better.
Challenge I have is the back bedrooms have very poor wifi signal, I have bought a TP Link Wifi range extender but that was less than useless, tested it yesterday and was getting 12.5Mbps download speeds. 'm wondering what is the best option, should I go for a better repeater (probably not going to help) or will a home mesh system be better, what do you think of the Google Nest whole home system?
I've even tried a powerline adapter (again TP Link) but whatever way the house is wired I'm only getting 25Mbps through that.
House is only 4 years old, brick construction with pumped cavity.
Any help appreciated.
