Apartment gas heating - turning some rads off

    Basic question really . I often turn off the radiators in rooms when no one is in them. Wondering does it actually reduce the gas burn accordingly? As in, if you have 4 rads in total (all the same size) and you have 2 turned off, will the gas burn be 50% less?

    I'll argue that it's counter-intuitive in some ways.

    Turning off the heating in some rooms drops the average temperature within the house meaning that the adjoining heated rooms now have cold internal walls, and you now have the ideal venue for the warm and damp air to party in and create mold. So saying that the you'll save 50% isn't right as you now have to pump some heat in to these cold rooms and this becomes a loss from the heated rooms.

    I'd recommend that you back-off the radiators by about 2 or so degrees rather than turning them off completely. Leave the door slightly open too and monitor the house for moisture/RH.
