Hi all! We have been experiencing an issue on site where threads have been missing the latest postings. The platform host Vanilla are working on this issue. A workaround that has been used by some is to navigate back from 1 to 10+ pages to re-sync the thread and this will then show the latest posts. Thanks, Mike.

The Forum Games Pointless/PEEHS Advent Calendar 2022

Hello elves! This year I'm invading the Christmas forum

One week until December, so it's time to roll out...

The Forum Games Pointless/PEEHS Advent Calendar 2022!

There will be one Christmas themed question each day from the 1st to Christmas Eve.

This year it'll be PEEHS format, which is basically like Pointless. You score a point for everyone that gives the same answer as you and want the lowest score.

If your answer is incorrect you'll score 1.5x the highest score that day. However, everyone will get one Christmas star, where they can score one point for any answer they give. The idea is not to punish someone for forgetting to enter on one day, but if you're really stuck for an answer you can opt to play it whenever you like

I'll post the question each day about 8am

    PM me answers by 6pm

    Daily scores reveal about 7pm

I'll be running it across here and https://forumofgames.com, so enter on either, I'll be combining the scores

That's it. No sign-up required, if you want to play then follow this thread and check back on December 1st

Of course, if you want to hype it up and engage in pre-match banter now that would be fun!

Ho ho ho, here we go!

Example: the pictures above show New Year's Eve fireworks in 8 different locations. Many days will be a similar sort of thing. You would pick one answer and send it to me. You want to give the answer that the fewest other people give

Now... this may be the most difficult/obscure answer but often that means people avoid the obvious answer, so sometimes they score low. But then people thinks that so goes for it and it scores high. But then people avoid it... and that's part of the fun!

    Looking forward to this!!

And I can play this year, my son arrived 3 weeks early last year and ruined last years game on me :P

I entered the last 2 years & really enjoyed the first one, last year due to work commitments I had to drop put half way through as I was starting to miss days & my scores plummeted as a result, I"ll give it a go again this year and hopefully work will play ball.

I’ll miss the final few days but can I still play along?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 87,490 ✭✭✭✭JP Liz V1

I hope to remember to play daily

Yeah, of course. I kind of expect to lose a few players along the way. If you're winning though, you might not want to miss out 😉

I will give this a miss as I had a bad experience when I did play it before!! Might drop in and out on this and the version on ForumsofGames (below).

In case anyone's curious, the answers were:

    Sydney, Edinburgh, Las Vegas, Reykjavik

    Auckland, Hong Kong, Dubai, London

    Get them all?

  • Moderators, Social & Fun Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 7,357 Mod ✭✭✭✭HildaOgdenx

What if an answer is completely incorrect?

    It's a while since I played PEEHS. 😁

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,381 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Completely incorrect gets 1.5x the highest score. So if, for example, the highest answer was London on 10, you'd score 15

    Nearly go time!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,381 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

Right, let's get this show on the road!

Question 1: name the location of one of these Christmas trees:

A reminder, you want to give the least popular answer, but you must be correct. Incorrect answers score 1.5x the highest score. No google

PM me an answer by 6pm, answers and scores to follow at 7

Good luck, and have fun 😁

Just to clarify, the name of the city or town is all I need. In general I'll be pretty generous with accepting answers, it is Christmas after all 🙂

13 people have already entered across the two sites

Should be interesting what people go for. Was the obvious one the right one to go for... hmmm...

It's hard enough I imagine running it on one site , on two ..😳😳😳

You may change your name to Father Christmas 🎄🎄😂

The obvious formatting limitations of Vanilla (as E.N.'s post shows) is one of the reasons it's easier to play and follow the games (we used to enjoy here) on FoG.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,381 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

    OK, day two!

It's the time of year when all the companies think you're Christmas shopping and are trying to outdo each other with their Christmas adverts

Question 2: name the company behind one of these Christmas adverts:

PMs to me by 6, reveal at 7. No google

  • Moderators, Recreation & Hobbies Moderators Posts: 27,642 Mod ✭✭✭✭Posy

I 'added a message' to our PM 'conversation,' so I hope you got my answer, EN. 😄 #ilovevanilla

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,681 ✭✭✭✭Deja Boo

In, but now I want to watch all the adverts :D

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,381 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

I did, including the cheery modern update to said advert 🤣

I'll throw the youtube links up after the reveal 😉

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 11,381 ✭✭✭✭Electric Nitwit

OK, lets start with today's answers:

    Guinness (2004), Telecom Éireann (1998)

    Kellogg's Cornflakes (1990), Woodie's (2020)

    An Post (2005), ESB (1988)

    Lidl (2016), Coca-Cola (1995)

Nobody got Telecom Éireann, but the rest were all guessed...

    And today's scores...

There's an error on the scores for Butty Brennan and jluv, the tool adding the scores unmarked theit incorrect answers yesterday and so only gave them one point, it'll be fixed tomorrow

In the meantime, here's the videos for you...

    Guinness (2004)

    Kelloggs Cornflakes (1990)

    Let's see what's behind

Today, we're looking at Christmas songs! Or, more accurately, their videos

Question 3: name one of the songs from the video stills below (no need to name the band/artist)

As always, answers by 6pm and no googling or watching Christmas songs on youtube 😋

Deadline approaching, no answer yet from @Aisling(",)

    Today's answers are below

I Wish It Could Be Christmas Every Day (Wizzard), Peace On Earth/Little Drummer Boy (Bing Crosby and David Bowie), Fairytale Of New York (The Pogues), Last Christmas (Wham!)

Every answer was given and no one gave a wrong answer today

    There's a big sheep though...
