Martinez is so small that he doesn't have to bend down to tie his laces.

I don't see how someone's height should impact upon how many times they have to tie their laces - unless we are saying that he's able to get some extra purchase in the "non-lean" way of tying! This is how easy is it to drift away from the nub of the discussion, which is clearly "How many times does he have to tie his laces per game?" No wonder its carnage here with the arguing!

34 year old Otamendi who was pretty pants in his prime starting ahead of Maritnez

Surely he must have a knock ,

He genuinely should be starting over Otamendi ,

I have Argentina backed to win it , i don't want to see Otamendi near the starting 11, Just cause Martinez plays for United doesn't mean i don't want him to play well for Argentina I'm not 12 years old,

Ronaldo gone from Utd with immediate effect

I will always respect him for what he done overall at Untied but he did act a bit childish the last few months regarding the transfer saga

Part of me sees him going to London but he could easily feck off to the states

A dream job for Pep, getting paid a fortune, spends a fortune, and no pressure on him to win the big one.

The Glazers trying undercut FSG’s sale of Liverpool

The two greatest teams in English football up for sale.

It will be a sad day for English football if either ends up under the control of a Nation State.

Or a sign of the future if they both do. It will become more and more common.

Its only Dubai and Bahrain left I think. And Bahrain don't have the kind of wealth the likes of Qatar, Saudi and Abu Dhabi have. Still billions though.

He posted the picture of himself with a new watch just before the announcement ,

The image on the watch is him scoring a header against United ,Petty

Or its him scoring a header for Madrid. I think he might end up there on a 6 month deal given the recent Benzema news.

He's been a brilliant goal scorer, for Real and FOR United especially in his first term, but let's be honest, he's always been childish in his behaviour. The difference now is that his performance levels have dropped to where managers no longer have to bow to his whims.

Can he actually move to the US, is that option not off the table after his earlier *cough *legal problems?

Short term deal with Real might be an option if Benzema is out for a while.

Youd have to imagine the super league is well and truly shelved for the foreseeable if they are getting out.

Also the very quick rise of Newcastle may have put the skids under the American owners.

Competing with 2 clubs who don't have to worry about money and 3 big London clubs who have massive earning power and pull and united or Liverpool depending what side you are on for 4 champions league places each year will be expensive

Strong dollar to Sterling also means whatever they get now will be worth more in dollars than 12 months ago.

He could legally work in the US alright, that case has been dismissed since the silver bullet evidence is inadmissible because it came from a data leak.

i think he’s still more likely to the Middle East than the US anyway though.

the short term Real move is a great shout though, if Benzema’s injury will keep him out a bit.

I guess it depends what he values more money or champions league goals but he could deffo bounce around Europe on 1 year deals to clubs going to play in the champions league. And when he is well and truly past is still get plenty of money from the middle east.

He is no where near believing he is finished at top level or we wouldn't be seeing this total melt down this year.

He has looked very poor for united though so could be physically finished.

If £1 got you 70c last year and £1 got you 80c now then the Glazers/FSG will get more dollars for selling now than 12 months ago.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 7,472 ✭✭✭theoneeyedman

A pound is almost even with a dollar now, after the lunacy back in September.

A year or so ago, one pound would have gotten you $1.40 or thereabouts. The ars5e fell out of the pound recently, they would have lost money if they needed to cash out their sterling assets now.

First FSG choosing to sell Liverpool. The sale of Chelsea, other PL ownership changes and the dollar/pound exchange rate were the main reasons given. They probably can't grow the club any more than they have done while using their model, in this current market, and decided that it was the right time to get out. Reading the market, it could be the best time to sell.

Did the Glazers see this and then make a decision to also get out? Is it also the best time to sell Man Utd, given their model too? Maybe both set of owners were already discussing it? Are they predicting a recession and getting out while they can?

The latter is very concerning as it's a lot more than football but it's a real possibility. There is some talk of FSG getting out so that they can buy an American sports team instead. I wonder is there a similar target from the Glazers too? Or have they just milked their cow for long enough and don't have the energy for it anymore?

I don't think either will sell to nation state sportswashing organisations fwiw.

The glazers own an NFL franchise as far as I'm aware,.and I doubt they give a fiddlers who they sell to, it will be whoever gives them the most money.

They have never shown any care of what really happens united it was always just about money, unlike the Liverpool owners.

I think there is a NBA expansion in a year or two aswell.

Ah I see, American sports seem to be much more owner friendly

For a long time now it’s been said that owning an NFL team was like having a license to print money. I don’t know if that’s still the case or not but it was near impossible to run one at a loss a few years ago.

You just take a quick look at European football and the financial reports of every major team and it’s easy to understand the position of FSG and the Glazers. I’ll miss FSG greatly, and United fans certainly won’t miss the Glazers, but it just goes to show that the balance of power is shifting in football and being disgustingly wealthy sometimes isn’t enough to run a club successfully anymore, and by successfully I mean on the pitch only. An agenda or ulterior motive is what’s required these days.
