Couldn't get into it. Just felt too... kidsy? I dunno, just didn't gel with me at all. Tried it a couple of times too.

"Finished" Rogue Legacy 2. I'm still at it, but I'd imagine like most *vania type games I'll get sick of the repetition soon enough. Harder doesn't make it different enough for me to keep going, but I'll stick with it for another while.

Also tried out Cold War. Said I'd give the campaign a go. ~200gb later, I have to decide if I want to download better visuals. Nah, drive on. Then it wouldn't let me use 120hz, saying my tv/PS5 was preventing it, but it works with every other game. Feck it, drive on, didn't need them for the campaign anyway. The vocal mixing threw me right off. Doesn't help the main character sounds like he's reading his lines from a bathtub while sipping brandy no matter the situation. Rest of the audio was grand, but the vocals were terrible.

Then decided to give multiplayer a go. Ads, ads, ads, intro, ads, free bundle, xp tokens, operators.... finally I get to pick a game from a huge diluted list of modes. Decide to go with 12v12 moshpit as I like objective modes. SBMM decided to put 4 level 1000+ players with me. Got destroyed while those 4 filled the top leaderboard with over 100 kills and 1 objective each. Quickscoping in full swing, dual shotguns, one hit kill regardless of where hit rifles, silent movement perks... Did it a couple of more times until I either got a hacked lobby or scorestreak cornered. Wasn't fun in the slightest. Deleted. CoD has gone so far downhill. I won't be buying another one until IW2/AW2. They weren't as popular because people couldn't do those kind of streaks in it as it was always possible to counter all the other perks.

Tried COD Cold War campaign a go. Finished it over a few nights and I loved it. Stunning story and characters. Probably the best campaign of all the COD's. Ridiculous download size meant I had to delete a few things to play it. Haven't tried multiplayer yet.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,284 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Yeah it has a random selection of songs.

Finished it last night. Overall a good game. Not bothering with the post game stuff. Watched a playthrough and wasn't a hope I'd complete them.

Sony should make more games like this. They've shown they have the talent with this and Astro Bot. Though not sure how well Sackboy sold

Having played Cold War, I got a CoD itch, so decided to give MW2019 a go. At least this one lets you decide what you want to download, and was only interested in multiplayer, so picked the base game and 5 extras (MP pack 1, 2, 3, and 2 compatability packs). All downloaded, started up the game. After a few logos, you get the online connecting screen, which is for Warzone Caldera. It's about 2 minutes (if you don't skip) before you see the first mention of the words Modern Warfare. And even then, it's a split screen with Warzone 2/MW2 automatically selected, and on the right is Warzone/MW. Picked multiplayer, but said I was missing packs, so had to download MP pack 2 and 3 again, and both compatability packs, but worked this time.

It's better than Cold War at least, not as full of long term players, but still has a fair share. I'd imagine most are playing MW2, I bought physical and traded soon after as my predictions were true that they basically ignored multiplayer again in favour of Warzone 2. Saying that, it said I was level 38, not prestiged, but I had gold camos for LMGs and rifles... It seems to have reset my prestige maybe? Whatever, I gave up after a game where I was being blindsided by a double shotty dead silence ninja constantly.

It's the perks that have ruined the series. I think people would get over the bright colours and stupid crossover skins if the perks weren't so annoying. There should be NOTHING that makes your movement silent, unless you're literally crawling at a snails pace. Dead Silence/Ninja ruin the game. What's the point of directional audio if you're just going to silence the main reason for it... If they got rid of anything that makes your movement silent, it would improve the game tenfold. Get rid of double shotguns, or at the very least make the reload realistically long for double shotguns, along with the kickback. CoD is catering to a very specific crowd who spend too much time playing the same weapons/classes over and over just because it looks cool. I don't have much hope for MW3, but maybe it'll be "free" on Gamepass so I won't have to pay for it at least. Will still cost me money, I'll have to buy that 8BitDo controller.

As an aside, I saw the real value of Gb broadband last night. Downloading about 5Gb a minute made the overall ordeal not as bad!

Just started Metal Gear Rising on PS3 (Yep, still have it hooked up). They're not holding back on the action anyway.

Definitely feels like the other Platinum games I've played, like Bayonetta.

Was sure I owned it on Steam or Ps3 physical, but nope. So had it on Plus

Tried Alan Wake and the controls are rubbish. Gave it an hour and gave up. Tried Sniper Elite 5 and it's the exact same as the last one. Less sniping involved in the early stages and the enemies are a little smarter but ultimately it got boring.

Debating pulling the trigger on Calisto Protocol but its a little pricey on the PS store. Anyone recommend it as a single player campaign ?

Started Immortals Fenyx Rising last night.

Was playing Pathfinder: kingmaker. for a while, on and off. Over 100+ hours in so more than a while.

There's a good, possibly great, game in there. It's an isometric CRPG, akin to the orignal baldur's Gate, Icewind Dale, Pillars of Eternity and the larian Divitys, based on first ediiton apthfinder (which is based on 3.5 D&D). turn based or real time at a click of abutton.

The story is based on a six part campaign for the original, and it is quite faithful to teh original ruleset (which can be both good and bad - the binary fail / pass of the saving throw systems can make some spells very powerful but unreliable.)

However, the PS4 port is poor. It's buggy, unstable, load times noticably degrade as the game progresses. There's also save game issues - corrruptions and interfering with the underlying OS - especially if you use PS+ cloud saves. I want to play more, but it became too frustrating to play - I had to stop.

Fortuantely, it's succesor - Wrath of the Righteous, is more stable.

Went back to playing Ragnarok, I played about 10 hours when it came out and then got bored, and I've now played a few hours more and I'm getting bored again. This never happened with the first GoW, but this one just seems absurdly long and drawn out.

Finished an Atreus section that I am amazed got through the editors. Whoever thought collecting fruit was interesting needs a reality check.

Playing GT7 mostly. I got Fruit Ninja VR a few months back, so I will probably play that next.

    I'm liking it.

I know there were loads of comparisons to Breath of the Wild, but there are worse games to take ideas from.

But I wouldn't say it rips it off. Weapons don't break, can get your horse from anywhere, plenty of powers.

Think I'm about halfway through and have the DLC ready to go as well. Have been doing a lot of side stuff and the vaults (its version of shrines, I guess) are usually bigger than shrines and boss areas are more like dungeons than the Divine Beasts.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 13,861 ✭✭✭✭mrcheez

I played it on Switch and really enjoyed it... enjoyed it more than BotW which is saying something 🤣

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,284 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

The bird is great in it. Especially when you increase the abilities. At the moment it generates a shockwave while also recovering 1 piece of energy with each hit. Handy for crowd control, especially when low on health.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,281 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

IFR got the fun factor right. And the toeing the line for PG dialogue between the Gods can be quite good. Just a fun, colourful game. Never played the DLC but it didn't get great feedback, too different. But I'd happily play a second one, pity they cancelled it.

Gave Cursed to Golf a go, interesting idea but it feels like a mobile game that evolved. Roguelike 2d minigolf with cards and a story. Kinda bored of it already.

Two Point Hospital is grand, gets panicky fast and I'm only on the 3rd hospital. Not sure if it'll have the legs to keep me interested, my doctors keep killing people and they shouldn't be!

Was re-playing The Witcher 3, but I'm at the Dandelion questline and I've lost all interest in it. Wish I could just skip past this whole section as knowing what's coming has pulled any will to continue out of me. Had already tried to replay Spiderman and even bought the PS5 upgrade, but similarly lost interest soon into it. Said I'd give Miles a spin for the first time and I'm actually getting into it, so I know now for definite that a game would want to be outstanding to me in order to me to be able to replay it.

Alan Wake - a thriller\horror game where you play the part of a writer trying to find his missing wife. The controls are rather clunky but I'm halfway through and enjoying it so far.

Spider-Man Miles Morales . It’s a very short story tho

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 6,595 ✭✭✭Damien360

On a playstation related theme. Just out of Gran Turismo the movie. Watchable car porn but leave your brain outside. Not a bad nod to the game.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,284 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Immortals Fenyx Rising Lost Gods DLC.

Not enjoying it. Not sure what they were thinking going with the isometric style camera. Considering it has a lot of the same mechanics as the base game, Not being able to look around and up makes the game needlessly hard.

I had to reload an earlier save after getting to an area and not being able to find my way out.

Also with the amount of enemies on screen at the same time sometimes, it can be hard to tell what's going on. Reminds me of God of War Ascension when the camera zoomed out so far you couldn't tell what was happening.

Just checked a video there, bizarre decision, makes it look like a mobile game now

It's possible that's how it started with the way dialogue boxes appear like you see on games for mobiles.

Then the way you have to add buffs to everything seems like something that could've been monetised.

I played call of duty cold war campaign and enjoyed it the other day. Any more call of duty campaigns availabe on playstation plus?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,284 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

There were others given in the monthly games before and there was one as part of the PS plus collection which finished not long ago. But don't think there are any in the ongoing collections.

  • Registered Users Posts: 671 ✭✭✭brianc27

Currently playing through red dead redemption on ps5, the 50 quid was a rip off but just finished my second play through of Rdr2 and really wanted to continue and seeing as RDR is a continuation from Rdr2 I took the plunge and paid out the price (never played the game before). It's good so far but really can't help but think how good it would be with updated graphics with a proper remaster, definitely feels like an older game control wise, graphics aren't that bad considering how old it is. Would have been great if they used some of the assets from rdr2 seeing as that game pretty much contained every location that is also in the first one. But I'm sure rockstar new there would be plenty of fuckers like me that would buy a plain port anyway rather then remaster

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 29,284 ✭✭✭✭CastorTroy

Giving the Lies of P demo another go. As someone who has never played a Souls like before, it's safe to say I'm not very good. I did get further than the first time I played the demo though. So turned it off after dying multiple times to the first big boss. Nearly had him though.

But as a wise man once said

"It doesn't matter whether you win by an inch or a mile, winning is winning"

Picked up Immortals of Aveum the other day, played a good bit of it last night. It's Call of Duty Magic and quite fun. After the tutorial, you basically have 3 types, green for multishot/LMG type, red for scatter/Shotgun and blue for single/rifle type. Each of them then has different variations then, ie: instead of scatter you have explode. And you have a manual shield and a dodge.

Fun enough to play, if you can get over the explosion of colours. Initially the play was linear but I think it's open world as there's lots of fast travel portals I've to unlock yet. I'm basically only passed the tutorial and getting into it now. It has dialogue interactions which apparently has consequences and timed answers. But it's done well, the character says additional stuff while waiting for your reply and it feels very genuine.

Story is there. Humans fighting each other over control of magic while something big is happening that'll kill everyone that no one is paying attention to, until you. Its enough to keep me going forward for now at least. Voice acting is quite good, and it's not gonna win any Oscars but it's pretty decent all the same. Visually quite impressive, but the frame rate drops are noticeable. Targets 60 but does drop a but during busy scenes. Better than Starfield though...

Looking forward to more of it. Reminds me of a mix between Ghostwire Tokyo and Call of Duty. And it's something fresh-ish.

Was looking at it last week and debating whether to pull the trigger and get it or not!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 34,213 ✭✭✭✭Penn

I'll probably play it at some point, but doesn't seem like a game worth the full price. Will pick it up on sale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,281 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Yeah, still early days so not sure on the full price yet, but I got it for 30 adter trading in AC6 for 40 so worth a try at that, and I'll make the money back trading it in. I'm expecting it to open up tonight, looks like a 4 split part map with free exploration in each area. Will report back, but its something a bit different at least. Dialogue is teetering right on that decent/cringe line.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,281 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Have to say, I'm really getting into Immortals. Map has opened up so it's large areas with their own maps and loading to get from 1 to the other. Which is quick and rare.

Its not slow at throwing abilities and spells at you, I feel I've only 1 or 2 abilities left to get. 3 main spell weapons, with each having 3 variants. Then you have 3 abilities, a lash, slow down blobs and a stun, plus a shield and dodge. Some enemies can only be damaged by one type, or are shielded so need a specific type of damage to the shield before changing back to the best type of damage then. Makes for some hectic fights. Died a good few times but its quick reload.

I've warmed to the characters. It's light hearted and does the buddy chat thing, but uses its sparingly so its effective. Overall story isn't bad, but one can more or less guess what's happening. Enough to keep moving forward at least.

Collectibles are for upgrade materials mostly, sometimes new gear. Gear is levelled, and I can't make head nor tail of it. I'm Magus level 37 or something, but my most powerful gear is 20, and the enemies don't have level indicators so it's a bit all over the place. I'm just using the strongest I have of everything. And everything is upgradeable. Its simple and straight forward. Like God of War to a degree.

Still wish it performed a bit better, but its grand as it is. I'm only on purple level weapons so I'm assuming I've a bit to go yet.

I finished the main story of Horizon Forbidden West last night. I really liked it. I was doing lots of side missions but just made a final push over the last few days. I think I will take a break from it and then try the DLC.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,281 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

FW is such a massive game that it did require a couple of short breaks during my second attempt and full playthrough. No interest in the DLC tbh, I'd done enough. Great game, and still some of the best character interaction animations in any game, felt so natural. Albeit, Immortals of Aveum is giving it a run for it's money. Not as polished, but feels more realistic with the way they've done the conversations. Maybe that's just me though.

Started Nier Replicant last night and put about 3 hours into it. Absolutely love it, a really lovely looking, relaxing gaming experience. I finished Diablo 4 the other night and am happy to have something that's not overwhelmingly massive.

Playing Resident Evil 3 Remake on the PS5. This game looks stunning with ray tracing and 60 FPS enabled. It's my first ever resident evil game so I have nothing to compare it to from the series or originals but I'm loving it so far at almost 75% through.

Started my 2nd playthrough of Cyberpunk 2077 with the 2.0 update. I love this game.

Bought the DLC last night. Did most of the first mission, really good fun so far. Looking forward to getting through the rest.

Playing FAR Changing Tides currently, one of the ps plus games. Simple puzzles but its an enjoyable little game. Has a feel like Journey. You are not quite sure why you are doing what you are doing but curious to see the ending.

Edit: just finished it tonight. Easy and enjoyable. Still not sure what it's about

Started Battle Chasers Night War last night.

Love it. Its a turn based RPG but not in the vein of final fantasy et al. Beautiful to look at and the combat is fun.

Spiderman 2 is sitting idle on my drive because of Cyberpunk

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 14,281 ✭✭✭✭Potential-Monke

Spiderman 2 is not getting as much playtime as I expected due to the non-Spiderman side missions ruining the experience... but I'll get there, because the actual Spiderman missions and side missions are great. Now excuse me from trying to stop a vicious hunter from killing everyone while I set up a date between these dudes and cycle a bike around a park.
