Seeing Female Doctor about man’s stuff

31 year old Gay male been booked in for a health check with a female doctor that involved a testicle and prostate exam.

I’m feeling slightly uneasy about it p, am I overthinking things? On the other side I’m not attracted to Women so solves the issue of going hard I guess.

I have a female urologist and she's been overseeing care for an issue for last 3yrs. It shouldn't be an issue for you OP. A Dr is a Dr, it's not their gender that should matter to you, it's their competence.

Women have had male doctors looking at their bits for many years. Uncomfortable or not, as another poster said, it's their competence that counts

Had a lovely Canadian female doctor for a health check like this. We had a great chat and it was all over before I knew it. Overthinking it and maybe a touch of white coat syndrome I'd say. Just own up to being nervous when you get there. As stated above they've seen it all before and the sterile environment usually removes any potentially embarrassing situations.

Yes, but sometimes they prefer to see a female doctor about such things. My mother once told me she switched to a female GP for this reason. So if a man felt very uncomfortable about it, that likely wouldn’t be that unusual.

Definitely overthinking. I have a female GP who has examined me on several occasions, no big deal, genital and prostate exam. Being honest I prefer female doctors, they've seen it all before and nothing new to them.

I'm surprised your're getting a prostate check at 31. Usually it is mid forties before they'd be wanting to check that. It doesn't cause problems in younger men.

regardless of sex of the doctor, it'd be far worse if s/he was training in a junior doctor - be worried they'd be talking/laughing about ya as soon as you've walked out the door,, that'd be a major concern for me,,

I'll never forget my first prostate exam,

went to the clinic, put on the paper gown and laid on the table, guy comes in, tells me to lay on my side and the proceeds with the examination, 'interesting' is the only thing he says as he heads for the door.

On his way out the door, a female doctor is coming into the room against him, they pass, then she turns to me and says the most terrifying thing anyone getting a prostate check could hear.

'who's that fella?'

I actually don't particularly mind trainee doctors. Most doctors I come across have more of an interest in women's, elderly or children's health. If whatever my issue is can spark an interest in men's health, I'm all for a junior doctor being involved.

I don't get the logic in that at all? It's the equivalent of a straight man saying he can't bear the thought of a male doctor examining him? I would find that very odd myself.

I would not be so certain about that.

There was a poster on Boards a while back who ejaculated during a similar procedure, which hence prompted him to post on here asking as to whether or not he might have been abused. He actually genuinely thought that his reaction to the exam could have been through some form of 'abuse' from the doc.

Vast majority of doctor and vet graduates are now female, the opposite of what has been the case hitherto. Women have always had doctors’ fingers up their vagina, or anus or wherever needs examining. I wouldn’t be worried about examinations by the sex you are potentially attracted to you/vice versa, it’s a clinical/medical relationship. Also, everybody well informed understands a healthy penis can become unintentionally hard when handled or even with the idea of being handled irrespective of sexual attraction. All doctors understand the nervous system operates in complex ways. Likewise it’s possible for female genitalia to respond unintentionally although less classically obvious.
