Something doesn't look right since they look so young. But will she be the first of multiple companions?

I'd got so used to relatively normal looking companions, like Bill or Whitaker's "fan" I'm kinda taken aback they have gone back to someone more conventionally attractive. The actor's 18 though that's crazy, she's barely the age of the new series' return!

I could be wrong however it feels like this new era will be aimed at the young TicTok generation and there will be lots of viral marketing and a whole Disney Kids club feel to it more than a 6pm on a weekend BBC night feel to it.

I will say Davies has a good record at getting his shows right so I will be giving it a go.

Article says Ncuti's doctor who season has begun filming and they think it's for the Christmas 2023 episode.

I was under the impression Tennant was gonna get three episodes then exit as that's what's being rumoured. That Tennant would leave on Christmas episode. Bah who knows.

Not entirely sure how Tennant's specials are meant to work. Was of the assumption it'd be like most run of specials, dotted throughout the year, but was told the 3 of them are just going to air over November 2023 so have no idea really.

Gatwa's costume has been revealed. Bold orange while the rest is pretty straightforward

    Rather boring look

Very disappointed tbh, I was kinda hoping for something along the lines of any of Daniel Craig's gettups in Glass Onion

Watched the trailer and was a realllllly weird experience. Like some unearthed season 4 Episode we hadn't heard about.

I'm not there yet, still haven't restarted my hype. Tennant seemed weirdly muted in that trailer, and having still not watched Whitaker's last 2 stories worried I won't get back the enthusiasm.

As the above was published yesterday, I don't believe it.

Given I hadn't seen any outlet report it, I would presume yes, it's an April Fools.

Jonathan Groff has joined the new season in an unspecified role.

I never had a problem with Mel (Bonnie), even though she was hired to scream in tune with the show's cliffhanger. It's a shame to hear so much preemptive hatred for a character whose only real offence was to not be given much to do (and testing people's eardrums now and then).

Having seen the occasional person reacting to Classic Who with no prior experience (and unclouded by past politics), quite a few seem to like Mel due to being an optimistic spitfire who doesn't act like a yes-girl.

What they choose to do with her in the present will be much more important. Having said that, I've not been keeping up with the show in years, so I'm not chomping at the bit to see what happens.

Mel is yet another example of a hated character saved by the Big Finish audios; alongside the much maligned 6th Doctor himself, whose edges were sanded off to the extent that there's a reasonable argument to be made the BF 6th is one of the greats. Mel also has the grating aspects sanded down (audio dramas perhaps not best served by someone screaming into one's headphones)

Unfortunately, "saved" is arguably too strong a word. While Big Finish is certainly known and popular, not every Whovian consumes it, and the vast majority of response to Mel's return was primarily negative or neutral (given she came and went during one of the least watched periods of the show's entire history, and quite a lot who did see her at the time likely have a negative impression by default). By extension, not everyone has had the pleasure of getting the 'edge softened' via the audio work.

As mentioned, I've noticed quite a few people dipping their toes into Classic Who and enjoying Mel - some even being upset when she leaves at the end of S24. I have never had an issue with Mel - helped by being an old McCoy-era fan - and as usual, Big Finish - not to mention cast appearances on the BoxSets (eg. behind the sofa, interviews and documentaries, etc) certainly help to soften the situation - but sadly, the response still seems primarily neutral (at best), so a lot will depend on how her return is handled.

Regardless, I'm very curious to see what happens next.

Is this just clickbait article? Is BBC just altering the release date for it?
