Splitting a vodafone fibre connection. Is it easy to do?

My parents recently got the Vodafone fibre broadband in.. my brother recently moved home and bought a mobile home to live in beside the family home. He has no eircode and rather than pay 2 connections I was wondering is it easy to run a Lan cable to his home and setup a 3rd party router in there? So both my parents and his routers run separately? .. I remember years ago this way hard to do so I thought I'd ask if anyone here is successful in splitting one connection between 2 homes ?

The maximum length of cat 5/6 cable is 100 meters (330 feet) so if its a shorter run than that, you should be good to just run a cable from your parents VF box to your brothers Mobile home (MH).

Then at the MH end, you can connect the cable to a spare home router you have lying around (turn off the DHCP on it) or buy something like the below for relatively cheap:

If the MH is on the the same Electricity Circuit as the house - which it sounds like it is - you could go down the powerline adapter route.

Plug one near your parents VF box and connect it to the ethernet cable and then plug the other side at your brother MH. Expect much slower speeds with this option but it certainly is the cheapest and easiest. The distance between the two plugs will dictate the performance but expect much less than 100 megs via this option.

I have Powerline working at my parents house to a garage and the max speeds I get in the garage is 25megs. The distance is about 30 meters. Nevertheless the connection works and is reliable. Its just never going to be 500 megs.

There is also options involving wireless extenders and or Point to point wireless bridges for greater distances, but it sounds like the mobile home is relatively close.

Thanks for that! This weekend I am testing the powerline adapters as I have these at my house and can bring them for test purposes. I knew this was always an option but I do want the best speeds for streaming mostly.. the MH is roughly 50m I'd estimate from the home so both options should work . I wasnt sure if there would be something blocking adding a router to the Vodafone router .

So if I go for a spare router you suggest turning off DHCP on that and just plug it all in? Hopefully it'll be this simple as I don't wanna buy the cable and router and have it not work .

As long its on same power supply it "should" work

For harwired devices you could use just a switch (plug-and-play, no config).

For WiFi you will need dedicated AP (Access Point) or that "new router" configured as AP before connecting to the network. If you provide make and model will get step-by-step, or you can lookup on WWW

Another possible option, if already have mesh system in main building, just give one of "satelites" or get additional one - will be seamless network across the property

oh yeah... there is always fiber link option between them two buildings... 😁

I'm gonna pretend to understand that 100% haha. But I think I can get this sorted from everything you've suggested. Once there's working wifi in both places they will be happy. Thanks for the help and suggestions!
