I’m still watching this every Monday on mtv. Ashley is still in it. Fezzy was removed for fighting his big brother buddy, and Hughie was eliminated after being a really great contestant, surely he will be back again. Tho I’m not sure about the recent split into 3 teams, that 1 team has won everything so far so bit unfair. I dunno why the winner of the elimination has not put themselves on that team, yet.

I've switched to watching it on MTV too as I think it's only a week behind the US release schedule these days which is good enough for me.

Given I continue to watch it must be doing something right but I'm always surprised how the show does little to nothing to level the playing field whatsoever. Vets being able to steamroll the rookies, the teams being originally picked based on performance in a challenge, no cap on amount of players in these team challenges etc. I'm not sure if it's coming from some moral position or a desire to keep their high profile players on the show for as long as possible.

I see a second All Stars season has started elsewhere. Am I right in thinking The Challenge - All Stars really means The Challenge - The Early Years Revisited?

Also, sounds like Ashley got abusive and said some things they didn't want to include in the edit to protect the others. That's my reading of the situation. I'm not her biggest fan.

Getting to the pointy end of the competition now. Big names are going to start falling.

Good episode last night (in the US). No spoilers since some people are watching at the UK times.

Really enjoyed last nights episode too. Elimination worth caring about!

This should be good tonight so. It’s a mens elimination, preview shows some problems between Kyle and Devon. Reckon Kyle goes to elimination anyway and will pick Josh if his team don’t win or Nelson if they do.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,357 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

I like Kyle. He’s funny and is a rock star in the eliminations. I don’t get why everyone calls him a snake, seems to be he is always up against the odds. I remember few seasons ago he came 2nd male in the final, from nowhere, and that was after he was made stand outside most of the last night. Unfortunately there was no money for 2nd male that year. If anyone is a snake in it this season it’s these ones that are trying to slip and slide through the season unnoticed, Devon and Kaycee.

I don't dislike Kyle but I do feel he very much goes out of his way to play this snakey wildcard character, both within the came and as part of his confessionals. He's a witty guy but it always seems a little forced for me to really warm to him. The decision to target the Sapphire cell made zero sense. Behind the facade appears to be a decent enough guy though.

I've warmed to Josh recently which is a bit of a surprise given how obnoxious and petulant he behaved when he first appeared in BB.

Given how they've been split into cells is it clear how the final will play out? Do they compete as a team and share the winnings? Or compete against each other? Or nobody knows yet?

Another good one in the US this week. No spoilers, but daaaamn.... 🙂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,357 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

I’d like to see an elimination between Tori and Kaycee and Tori getting her revenge.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,395 ✭✭✭pooch90

The teams being so uneven is making it a bit annoying now. How is a team of 3 meant to beat a team of 5?

I don’t get the 3 team split this season. Again this week it gives a big advantage to the team with the most numbers. Same team have practically won every week. And most weeks the winner of the elimination doesn’t pick to go into that dominant team, why?? EG - why did Kyle go back to CT he should have swapped with Count Dracula and teamed up with his buddy Devon. Why is that strong team almost threatening others not to infiltrate them, when that is the only positive I see in this 3 team structure, ie the power given to however gas the balls to go to elimination and win.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,357 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

And why does Count Dracula think he is such a badass?? He has never been to elimination. Kyle has been down there at least twice this season, just because he didn’t pick him doesn’t mean he’s scared of him. He seems a likeable enough fella tho so guess he was just having fun with Kyle. But I’d like to see Tori ex Jordan come back and kick his ass.

I didn’t understand why did the Spanish guy pick Count Dracula for the elimination. He should have picked Devon, it didn’t look like a puzzle game, and he could have not picked his best buddy and made a name for himself by eliminating a ‘self appointed’ big player. Other than that the Spanish guy was pretty impressive throughout and even had some hanky panty with Big T.

Happy with the results (no spoilers!). Some surprise exits though!

I do think that last season was better though. I think the red skulls did a better job of pushing people into challenges.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,357 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

I won’t know till I watch next Monday night, but am hoping to see Kyle do well.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,357 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

Very disappointed with the result. 2 people who won had never been up against it, think the girl had maybe 1 elimination at the start. Very unlucky for the 2nd place bloke who was the true winner of the series. I guess he made the wrong decision on the last partner pick and should have stayed with his partner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,357 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

Seems the team lost it on the puzzle and paid the price with elimination of half them. Looks like they all got great cardio except Devon.

Can anyone make sense of the news about this shake up to The Challenge?

Looks like there will be a UK version on Channel 5. This summers US version will be on CBS and may only include CBS reality stars as opposed to the usual cast members. There will be two other international versions and the winners will all compete in a War of the Worlds season?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Anyone watching the new season? It's a total cracker. No Josh or Hughie either. 2 episodes are out. 🙂

The Ride or Die twist is excellent. No spoilers but I feel sorry for the person who was eliminated near the start of episode 2, only because their partner couldn't hack it.

I love this show. I don’t think it’s out on mtv yet??

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

In the States. I had a look for a UK start date and couldn't find one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

Looks like it's airing on MTV UK, 2 weeks behind the US schedule which seems to be the norm these days.

There's also 3 of the 6 The Challenge: Untold History retrospective available.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,505 ✭✭✭ElNino

There is a Challenge Australia after starting now with the winners also going through to the international final.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Good one this week. Final starts next week! 100 hours long too, it's going to be seriously tough.

Had to have a little chuckle every time I saw "Nany's Cam". 😂

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,357 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

I watched that and Nany was lucky to get through. She is definitely one of the weaker ladies, hard to see her ever winning a final. That girl Nurys is some babe, and she was pretty good at the challenges too, but Amber is very strong and fit. Nurys wuda beaten most other girls in it, maybe not Tori, Kaycee or Amber.

Jeez I was gutted by that ending. I was really rooting for them.

Hard not to feel so sorry for them after a great season. They earned their spot in the finale.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,395 ✭✭✭pooch90

Awh me too, and her face afterwards (eek)

Jordan is being very annoying in the final but I understand his frustration. I still can't decide if he's a tool or nice deep down.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Pretty happy with the ending. Another exit due to injury (which was hard in fairness), but the winners did right by the 3 runner up teams in the end, so it was a happy ending for all.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,357 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

Watcher the final episode last night. I thought the overall 100hrs final was not as good as previous few when they were trekking mountains in snow or heat. The cornfield setting didn’t work for me. The final task itself was too leaner towards getting part 2 of it correct, anyone who messed up there had no chance to recover, and that should have been moved to part 4 and final part.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

Season 39 started last night. The general theme is "back to win" (previous contestants who have never won). No rookies this year, and no previous winners as competitors (to start with anyway).

    It was good!

Was it on mtv?? I don’t think it’s out in Europe yet I saw the promo’s all right but think it was US only. I have a real soft spot for Nurys she is some babe, and I see she is going out now with the cast mate Horacio now. Lucky guy!!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

US only I think... I'm sure it'll come to Europe in time.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

Was surprised to see this pop up on my radar given I've come to think of the CBS/P+ The Challenge US version (which just ended) as the main version these days.

Last time I checked there used be a two week lag between MTV US and UK/Ireland initial showings but not sure if things have changed since. I certainly am happy to wait to see when this arrives on MTV UK before watching.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,357 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

It starts tonight here in Ireland mtv.

No love for the challenge this season?

The latest episode was a cracker. The elimination challenge was a great achievement for the winner.

Can't wait to see the fallout later this week.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,395 ✭✭✭pooch90

I'm watching and enjoying mostly. Don't like the conquest eliminations though. Loved Jay before but he's being an ass this season.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 55,534 ✭✭✭✭Mr E

The elimination competitions are OK, I think the way the contestants are picked is terrible.

And yeah, Jay is a dick this year.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,395 ✭✭✭pooch90

I just think (fe)male vs (fe)male elims in the sand are a better way to do it. Yeah, the pick for them is rubbish. Would have been ok for one week but not more than that. Felt sorry for Zara with that big stupid wall.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,357 ✭✭✭Man Vs ManUre

Am watching this on mtv so not aware of recent developments, I believe this week is a big one, and looks like CT is the legend altho last week it was male also. But I don’t think this Chaos theme and bringing in the legends is working and the competition seems to be toned down a bit. It’s not as good as previous seasons. Dunno who will win it but Horacio and his buddy are great competitors, Jay is a bit of a weakling compared to them. As it’s just 1 winner at the end it cannot really be a physical challenge to separate the male from female, it will have to be top male and top female qualify via the normal big event that has bit of everything, then some last puzzle or something to pick the winner.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,395 ✭✭✭pooch90

Are we happy with the winner? I am :)

I see a lot of horrible comments online though.

Yeah it was a fair result. I'm glad Nurys got something out of it too... She had some massive knockouts (even though she was a bit obnoxious about them).

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 9,383 ✭✭✭S.M.B.

I was watching at MTV UK pace so didn't want to spoil myself by popping my head into this thread.

For some reason nowtv took down all available seasons of The Challenge and I wasn't sure if/when they'd return. Went and acquired the last 3 episodes elsewhere and binged them over the past 2 days.

    Overall thoughts on the season.

    • I did not like the game mechanics at all. It was a real struggle to get through the first 2/3s. I didn't mind the conquest challenges but possibly because what came before was even worse.
    • I had at some affection for most of the cast at the start of the season and there were a few contestants that I would have been rooting for in the past. This season made me pretty much dislike them all, certainly those that went deep. Jay was mentioned above but he was not alone.
    • They really have toned down the physicality haven't they? I'm relatively new to The Challenge (a few years of watching at this stage) so I'm more familiar with this next generation of cast members but the physical traits needed to be a champion seem vastly different to what they were not so long ago. Think it may have been the first MTV series I've watched that didn't have a hall brawl (or did I miss it?)
