DeBruyn is a great player , doesnt need to cheat - ref bought it.

Every week you see the same nonsense from the media. I was watching the NBC station today for the City game (far better coverage than sky or bt in general imo), yet when the penalty was given, I'm pretty sure the commentator said the exact same thing, that De Bruyne was clever. Not that he had cheated. Not that Fulham are about to be robbed by a scandalous decision. De Bruyne was clever because that's just how it is.

I hope if someone was watching the NBC coverage (USA Network I believe it's called now), they can correct me if I'm wrong on that NBC commentary.

Absolute poison. I don't think people realize the effect that huge stations or media have in calling a player clever when they have clearly cheated. De Bruyne is a magnificent player, one of the best attacking midfielders I've seen over the past decade or so. That doesn't stop what happened today being one of the clearest cases of cheating I've seen. Absolute rot the English media are, and the worst thing is I don't think anyone can doubt at this stage it actually affects on field decisions in English football.

If someone else had written what I just have above 10 years ago, I'd call them a conspiracy nut. I watch a lot of football, English, Spanish, French, German, Italian top flights mainly (I definitely watch too much football). The English league is absolutely bizarre though. Yes, there are bad decisions in every league, but nothing even close to the English PL. If these English referee's were in involved in Ligue 1 in 20/21 Lille would have finished 10-15 points behind top spot instead of winning their deserved title. I'm in no doubt about that, and what's worse is because PSG are just expected to win the title in France, nobody would have batted an eyelid.

The PL (the supposed best league in the world) is in the absolute gutter.

That reads more that the company were using Fulham and the PL to help scam people in other countries? Also if Fulham used a third party to verify the company surely the due diligence was lacking by that third party?

The City deals look to be more about boosting sponsorship revenue.

Clubs still signing deals for the easy money without doing due diligence untill reporters start digging into these deals.

It’s very bad governance from Fulham in fairness. Looks like no due diligence done on this at all.

Just because City are worse doesn’t mean everything else can be trivialised in comparison.

It says in the tweet that Fulham hired a third party firm to carry out due diligence. I assume they put reliance on that third parties findings which wouldn't be unusual.

He did need to cheat yesterday though, and he did.

@McBain11 has it pretty right, the likes of this decision yesterday is as a result of poor officiating in England for over a decade, maybe longer. Every year it gets a little worse, where noww you can't touch a player without giving away a penalty.

They obviously didn’t do due diligence on the third party firm though! (tongue in cheek but the third party doesn’t absolve them of responsibility)

Surely they'd have a trusted party to do that, and not hire on a case-by-case basis? League is rotten to the core, I'd be more surprised if clubs aren't doing it

Without being critical of Potter, it's a big game for him today. He really needs a win, as Chelsea's form has been patchy under him. I know he didn't have a pre season or transfer window etc but that's life at Chelsea. It's cut throat.

Arsenal come into town needing a win to keep ahead of City too. Arsenal are beginning to realise how you need to win every game and draws are akin to defeats now.

Aubameyang to score and then sprint towards the Arsenal fans Adebayor-style.

You wonder would the pen been given if it was a Fulham player ??

That Chelsea Arsenal first half was a great advert for the 3pm blackout. Terrible stuff.

For someone who had unreal potential at 20 in the Bundesliga, Havertz has been very average for a couple of seasons now. Very poor today. He's living off the CL final goal now.

Havertz, Werner, Sancho, Keita & Pulisic all big signings on big wages from the Bundesliga that haven't lived up to the price tags or wages they get paid.

The Poppy gets bigger and bigger every year on the jerseys.

Martinelli kicked Azpilicueta yet Azpilicueta gets carded.

Michael Oliver really has turned into a very bad ref over the last two seasons from being the best they had at one time.

Why not be critical? He was blessed to get the job with a 31% win rate at Brighton.

He moved clubs mid season, in the middle of a heavily congested fixture period. The clubs in European football, especially the CL, are in a period of match-recovery-match with little time for implementing overall tactical ideas.

First hour of this game has been a big disappointment. Hope it picks up.

Why so the CL moreso than the EL? Arsenal had less recovery time than Chelsea for example, so that would suggest the opposite of what you're saying actually

Arsenal take the lead. Let's see if that causes Chelsea to react.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,613 ✭✭✭tinpib

Chelsea holograms in the box for that corner, the ball bounced right through them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,877 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

Because the CL is a tougher competition requiring stronger starting 11s to be named consistently in the group. For example the likes of Sheriff, Zurich, Omonia & Bodo/Glimt allows mass rotation if the manager sees fit.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,244 ✭✭✭kowloonkev

It was his own choice to move. If he didn't think he had the ability and character to make a success of it because of the timing then he could have rejected the offer. Otherwise, he is open to criticism.

Loftus Cheek has to be the most underwhelming Chelsea player since they have become a super club. Never seen him stand out in all his minutes.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 20,954 ✭✭✭✭yourdeadwright

Ye your probably right but them to have been way off it & United & Liverpool have still conceded the same number if goals ,

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,643 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Tuchel to Potter was a massive downgrade.

Arteta's rebuild is starting to get very interesting. There's a resilience about this Arsenal side that was absent for absolute yonks. Old fashioned Arsenal scoreline as well.

Villa players definitely weren't playing for Gerrard
