Twitter has never been more fun than it has been in the last few days.

Yeah, but Panti Bliss wouldn't get to advertise his shows and himself on Netfix for €20 a month.

That's Gas tbh. I would simply charge to change your icon and picture from stock ones. Hit's everyone. 😂

Charge for a custom avatar, pretty standard on other sites.

Aye. I never liked Twitter tbh 144 chars at the beginning how are you supposed to debate on that. I know it was not supposed to be that kind of platform but here we are. It just polarized opinions due to constrains and created a deeply argumentative and combative environment. 280 is not much better though. IIRC it was supposed to be like SMS and what you would normally talk about to your mates.

Surprised Musk didnt just bring in a golden check mark at $100 a month. His fanbase would lap it up while he can let the common folk slum it with the blue check.

I see the “bro’s” are getting all giddy at the prospect of a private entity once again permitting the publishing lies, misinformation and hate

Just a note though, if a user pays a subscription fee to the service they now become the publisher l, not twitter and are legally responsible for the content. Musk has figured out a way to monetise stupidity without taking on the risk

They paid 4.99/ month already. Twitter will still be responsible for what is posted if they do not take it down fast if told it is incorrect. They will still be GDPR

    No one is being "cancelled"

For Discovery/Warner Bros, so far investors have backed off as they don't see a clear vision for future profitability - The Stock price is down ~50% Year to date.

And Zaslav will probably lose his job too because he made a balls of the takeover.

It's not going to be profitable in the short to medium term - Musk just loaded it with a significant debt burden the repayments for which are currently more than the annual profits for the company/

By “division”, you mean “calling out facists for being facist” presumably?

Most businesses people that fail at a project is because they left there ego get in the way. They think they are too big to fail. They get involved in a company or business they have no understanding of.

You only have to look at Dr Sir Tony O'Reilly and Waterford Glass. Sean Quinn and Anglo. While Irish independent did not break Denis O'Brien, it definitely chastened him.

Musk is reacting like he needs this to succeed and fast. Nobody know what personnel commitment's/ guarantees he has given over other stock he owns.

Both Tesla and Starlink are probably under funded as well. While he loaded Twitter with 13 billion of debt it still left over 30 billion that had to found to fund the rest.

Did he have to come up with 10 billion of it, 5+ definitely. That is a lot of free cash to find especially when neither of your other two flagship companies pay dividends.

If he had to personally borrow 5 billion with the risk involved he is definitely paying 4+% or 200 million a year minimum in interest.

The 84 million a month is not his problem really. He will probably meet that target. Its the personal funding he had to come up with is the issue IMO

Panti can hardly call what they do as content creation. Unless that means posting wordles and complaining about almost everything.

The "everyone who disagrees with me is a fascist" line is so pathetic.

The word is abused to the point where it has become meaningless. We see that word thrown around on Twitter where people are grouped together as fascists.

As I said, it's absolutely pathetic.

    Just for reference:

Fascism is a far-right, authoritarian, ultranationalist political ideology and movement, characterized by a dictatorial leader, centralized autocracy, militarism, forcible suppression of opposition, belief in a natural social hierarchy, subordination of individual interests for the perceived good of the nation and race, and strong regimentation of society and the economy.

Are you seriously suggesting that fascism - the above - is omnipresent throughout society and social media?

Or is it more likely that actual fascists - you know, the ones that serve the description above - are a tiny, tiny, tiny minority of society and we'd do best to ignore them as losers.

Twitter is not a hotbed of fascism. Stop with the hyperbole and disingenuous use of the term.

Maybe he will, maybe he won't. It's not the first time he sailed close to the wind financially, and in this case he probably could just shutter Twitter and be fine financially. Seems a mad decision in the first place though.

Go back and check the context. It was in response to a claim that Occupy Democrats are 'spreaders of division'. The only 'division' that I see them spreading is outing facists as facist. Beyond that, they do standard political commentary. Funny how you didn't rush in to claim that 'spreaders of division' was a meaningless abuse of words.

I heard this morning that market analysts have put the value of Twitter shares at about $14. Musk is paying $53. Managed to wipe $30bn off his net worth. Next level genius.

The naivety. Twitter has and always will be full of lies and misinformation, the left just got comfortable with a certain strain of it being cracked down on. You've simply got comfortable having things your own way, and now you fear that that's come to its end.

"When you're used to privilege equality feels like oppression", a quote loved by the left, yet more often than not it's applicable to themselves.

“The man who lies to himself can be more easily offended than anyone else. You know it is sometimes very pleasant to take offense, isn't it? A man may know that nobody has insulted him, but that he has invented the insult for himself, has lied and exaggerated to make it picturesque, has caught at a word and made a mountain out of a molehill--he knows that himself, yet he will be the first to take offense, and will revel in his resentment till he feels great pleasure in it.”- ― Fyodor Dostoevsky, The Brothers Karamazov

Too many people are under the false assumption that Musk embarked on this endeavour all on his lonesome. The richest man on earth has many powerful partners , advisers investors and friends. Silicon Valley mogul Larry Elision alone gave him $1b for the purchase, potentially more.

When it comes to advertisers , they are not going to cancel relationships with a platform that has 200M monetizable users a day , especially not because of a small minority of cry-babies online😰... 🙂

Considering they are happy to sponsor the gay hating, anti women's rights and slavery promoting Qatar world cup, Musk is a saint in comparison. In fact Musk is a saint compared to his billionaire peers. He's given Starlink to the Ukranians for free while the military industrial complex are benefiting to the tune of billions from the Biden administration. Jeff Bezos uses the Washington Post as his own personal PR rag.

Looks like the 20/ month is in trouble and is being reduced to 8/month. It was only raising 6-7 million/ month anyway

    https://edition.cnn.com/2022/11/01/tech/musk-twitter-verification-price/index.html#:~:text=Musk%20on%20Tuesday%20said%20he,mark%20to%20verify%20their%20account.

His other problem is the ✔️ is used as well to stop missinformation as you get to know which users were spamming after a while. However you can drop user numbers very fast by charging too much.

You do seem to be under the mistaken assumption that the right be be free to talk sh*te means you have the right to be listened to

You were crying about them doing so yesterday when you were claiming that it was all the fault of woke leftists hating EM.

Also not the first time advertisers have halted using twitter as pointed out to you when you claimed otherwise.

Well considering a well known troll on here claims to have a blue check on their twitter account, like everything else related to twitter it does need some work.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,841 ✭✭✭TomTomTim

What? Nothing in my post infers anything like that. Like most of the supposedly enlightened people on boards, you seem to struggle to comprehended plainly written and clear language. What you've just said has nothing to do with that I just said, or what you originally said.

I never mentioned anything about "woke leftists". Misquoteing is the only way you can get the attention you so desperately want from me.
