They need to meticulously maintained, which they won’t have been. Look at a Kia Ceed or Hyundai i30 if you must get a diesel from that era. If she doesn’t actually need a diesel then don’t get one.

Buy anything else. You mention you want something reliable, well a 14 year old French car with a crappy automatic gearbox is not going to be that.
Get something Japanese and petrol imo, you will pay more for it up front but it will be cheaper to own in the long run.
