Wallbox pulsar is €550 after the grant with Ecoplex or €599 with carcharger.ie

No surprises here. Installers are absolutely creaming it. Mine was already pre-wired. I only needed an isolation switch and a new charger. Quotes were from 1200 before having the tails and fuse upgraded from 10^2 and 60A to 16^2 and 100A despite my previous charger being a 7kW (same as new one) and being on a priority switch with the electric shower.

I figure the cost for me would have cost me over 1k after the grant. Being Conservative: 300 for tail uprade. 150 for esb to upgrade fuse and meter tails. 1200 for wallbox installed with isolation switch. No discount offered for pre-wired. Take 600 off for grant.

I decided to order a hypervolt 2.0 and installed it myself last month. Cost me £560 or 650 euro (vat removed as requested manual quote from them with vat removed for export). Was delivered quickly and no Irish vat or duty was imposed, so I got lucky as we sometimes do. I had it installed within a couple of hours and didn't bother running a data cable for the load balancing as I don't need that function at present. If you are already wired up, choose a charger and have a professional hook it up. I don't advise DIY, especially if you're not familiar with how to connect a cable to an outdoor socket.

Thanks lads. I knew that quote was way too much considering half the job is done. I'll look into it a bit more on what to do and who to use.

Need to pull the plug and get this done soon as car ready quicker than I thought would happen.

Assuming this meets the new SEAI requirement of units needing to be “smart” to qualify for the grant?

Putting it on the gable of house so not immediately visible but still want it to look relatively nice which that pulsar does. (Not paying 2k for Anderson and see they went bust anyway).

Does this unit take Ethernet connection?

Going to run the cables end to end myself and let installer connect them up.

Also going to install ones for in laws down in limerick as we travel down a lot of weekends.

Any recommendations on nationwide installers that might do ours in Meath and in laws in Limerick and give small discount for this?

I have 2 companies in my post.

Discounts I’m not sure if but considering demand is more then supply, I wouldn’t be discounting it as it’s 2 separate locations, 2 grant paperwork’s and 2 travels.

    No scope for a discount.

Don't you need a reci to access the engineers menu to get it online?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,420 ✭✭✭...Ghost...

No. There are 2 QR codes on the cover. 1 for installer and 1 for owner. I scanned both separately and filled in the information requested. Unit is online and registered with hypervolt. No need to access engineers menu on this. The power limiter is a mechanical dial inside the unit which I set to 32A.

Thanks. Could I do the same if I ever replace my EO mini?

If you can change out an electrical socket, I see no good reason why not. Isolate the supply, remove old unit, install and wire new unit and enjoy not being ripped off. If in any doubt, get a pro and don't take any chances.

So my plug in charger failed today, 3 flashing red LED's. It's a TE brand. Anyway, just opened case and inside the output cable terminals were burned. Strong smell of burning from the circuit board too. Anybody ever experienced this? Is there a repair "go-to-guy" out there? My hubby has repaired circuits before, but he had clear guidance in how to do it, and he's also very handy with this sort of thing... Any help appreciated.

    Hi folks,

Not a huge problem but with the zappi the cable when stored sticks out.

My side entrance isn't that wide so it's easy enough to brush off the plug when bringing out bins etc.. could you get a waterproof cable for the plug and allow hang down to one side like my VW charger used to sit?

I had the same issue to a lesser extent as my old charged came with a separate holster for wall mounting. I attached it to an L bracket and mounted that to the wall so the gun was parallel to the wall when stored. I ruled out zappi recently partly because of that issue.

with the zappi though im wondering can get a plug cover and put it on the plug and drape it down the side of the charger? does the plug need to be plugged back into the zappi?

I have a rubber cover for a type 2 plug if you want it. I bought a wall mounted holder instead. I’m 95% sure I know where it is.

So I got a quote of €1300 for the installation of wallbox pulsar plus for our own house which was built in 2016. Going ahead with that.

We spend good bit of time down in limerick at in-laws and got a minimium quote of €2,500 for there for same box! Tails upgrade needed apparently.

Father in law usually does his own electrics, done some FAS course years ago but obviously not qualified to sign this off. He’s looking into seeing what’s involved, if it’s something he could do himself and have someone sign it off.

In the mean time, is there any dedicated well designed app or website with good UX that shows all charging stations in Ireland? A google seems to just suggest loads of different brands having their own sites?

Ionity locations are extremely limited by looks of it, nothing along the M7 after Naas all the way to Limerick. Any ideas if they have plans to add new locations in Ireland next year? Real pity as think I get free membership for first year to it when getting the I4.

Looks like Circle K on ballysimon road may be best best for time been when down in Limerick for a quick top up to ensure don’t run low on return trip to Meath (400km round trip from Meath to Limerick)

This app/site seems decent with useful comments from people using stations.

Turns out moneygall will be adding 8 new bays based. User of site left planning reference number as comment on plugshare.

Ecoplex will put in a Wallbox Pulsar Plus for 1150.

Keep that €150 in your pocket.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,486 ✭✭✭rodge123

That’s who gave me the €1300 quote! 25 meter run from cabinet to installation point might explain €150 difference.

Possible alright. Electric Ireland is €20 per metre run above the included package.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 5,458 ✭✭✭MojoMaker

I found they are open to negotiation. They'd rather you went with them vs someone else so just say 1300 isn't working for you and you have a quote for 1150 somewhere else and watch what happens.

No loss either way, plenty of installers around.

I found them to be a waste of time. Sent in my details including photos of existing installation. They were very slow to respond and I gave up after having to remind them twice I was waiting on quote.

Does this mean the pulsar plus is not eligible for grant anymore?

Think they extended the deadline until new year?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,182 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

That’s right. My understanding is many meet the EEE criteria but are struggling to get certification in place. Like everything at the moment.

    hi folks,

anyone with a zappi notice you have to restart it every so often? im not using mine much but i noticed today its screen was blank and i had to turn off the power to it via the isolation switch and back on for it reboot. Second time ive had to do since i got it installed a few weeks ago. Coincidently after heavy rain both times.. i leave it switched on to allow for power consumption monitoring for the house via the myenergy app.

    Cheers,

    Mick

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 12,321 ✭✭✭✭KCross

No, I've never had to restart it.

Presumably its not just a case of the screen turning off and hitting a button wakes it up?

Yeah I don't think so.. I noticed in the app it saying energy import was not accurate so popped out and the screen was off.. I just cycled the power to it and was fine then.. I assume if any water was getting in would be tripping switches or something.. was fitted by EV charger installer who did my VW one and they seem to have done a pretty good job
