Reckon the World Cup is in the back of their minds. VVD in particular seems afraid of any kind of contact this year.

    Simply not good enough.

Ironic that his unbeaten at Anfield record came when he was No Where near as physical as he should have been.

At the other end I thought Salah could have passed on a couple of occasions but went alone and when he did pass it was poor..

On another day Liverpool win 4-2, today they can gave no real complaints.

First time I can ever recall one of the club journos criticising JK. It's fascinating to watch what's happening at the club. Using injuries as a reason can only take you so far and this team looks utterly done. Salah was one of the best players in the world this time last year but he looks lost. Spurs away then Southampton, neither are easy games but if I was a betting man I'd be going with them to beat Spurs then lose to Saints.

Well if we grant City and Arsenal are nailed on and Newcastle are now serious contenders, that leaves Liverpool battling for two places with four other teams, all of whom are currently playing better than them, and none of whom look likely to fall out of the race. I'd be making them sixth favourites in that market, maybe joint fifth with Chelsea.

Arsenal .... given how they blow hot and cold in seasons past are Far from nailed on. Throw a few injuries to major players and they could well drop out of contention. The post World Cup factor means no one Apart from City in essence, are guaranteed top 4.

A rejuvenated Liverpool could crack on and take a top 4 spot. Newcastle, Chelsea, Spurs and United too. I think the race for the 3 spots is going to be a cracker in the New Year.

Some of the results so far are fairly bonkers, Brighton banging in 4 against Chelsea another 'shock' today.

I expect this trend to continue for another few weeks but lessen once the World Cup is over.

Read a mad stat in todays Times.

"Under Klopp, Liverpool have now lost more Premier League games against teams starting the day in the relegation zone (11) than they have against teams starting the day in the Champions League places (ten)."

Klopp has been working miracles with an average net spend of £10-15m pound a season. Every signing has to work. And when they don’t it’s a disaster as they don’t have the money to rectify it immediately.

Liverpool won’t finish top 4, the damage will be done by the time January comes around. Spurs up next, away.

Hard to see Pool making top 4 alright. It would take collapses of a lot of other top 4 contenders to make that happen now. Its different when the number of contenders is small. Also, Pools form is terrible so it's not like they are pulling up trees.

That should be a second yellow card for Scamacca. Dangerous play surely…

The usual dirty one from McTominay! Diogo Dalot looks like he might finally have nailed his spot.

Not watching this game, but with fouls the same, how have West Ham 3 yellows and Man Utd none? All cynical from the Hammers, or dirty?

Why do Sky insist on doing interviews straight after the match instead of analysing the game first ?

Neville and Redknapp bigging up Rashford now, he has everything says Redknapp, lol

Fantastic win for United today, real grit shown in the second half despite not being near our best. The United of previous seasons would have capitulated and conceded near the end but there is some balls in the team now. Missing some guaranteed starters and still getting the three points makes it alot sweeter.

Da Gea bailed them out again like he has for years now.

I don’t see anything great with united at the moment.

    Goal keeper makes saves shocker!!!!

That's my point, sir, these are the games we've been dropping points in for a number of seasons. United have played all 4 top 3 rivals from the start of the season and have beaten 3 of them and drawn with the other. There have been some outstanding performances like against Spurs and some not so outstanding ones where we've gotten wins. Compare them to the United of this time last year and its chalk and cheese.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,363 ✭✭✭Jinglejangle69

Yes but it’s not like they steam rolled West Ham and has a 2 or 3 nil lead. If Da Gea didn’t make some world class saves it would have been a draw.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,242 ✭✭✭ceegee

1 penalty goal conceded in the last 6 games in all comps. Massive defensive improvement from last season

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 715 ✭✭✭Mac_Lad71

That's DDG's job to make world class saves. You're allowed to have a good goalkeeper.

When you keep a clean sheet only need to score one.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,149 ✭✭✭NITRO95

Don't really understand this complaint. Utd paid a decent fee and huge wages to employ a great goalkeeper for moments like today. It's his job. Should every team just have a shite keeper to make things easier for opposition teams?

Also posts like the above are a reason Goalkeepers very rarely get recognised for individual awards.

It’s more about I haven’t seen anything from United yet that is brilliant.

But they are winning matches which is the most important thing.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,242 ✭✭✭ceegee

United don't need to be brilliant when the most realistic target is top 4, being consistently solid is enough. Every year the race for 4th is a slow bicycle race, yet by the time the next season rolls around we all convince ourselves you need to be elite to reach the CL.

Nothing wrong with winning a game by being lucky and United surely were there as they just about held on there. Multiple really fantastic saves and Bowen's mishit was huge. Similar to Arsenal winning against Leeds recently where they played poor and really held on at end. Pundits always go on about grit and character but it's really just a bit of luck at the end of the day, fine margins and all that!

Sure could be spun the other way, if it wasn't for Maguires block Bowen would have scored..

Iv seen a lot of talk lately about Martinez at United, Is it just me or are people over rating him,

Don't get me wrong he has a been a decent solid decent CB but hardly fantastic

Stats floating around about his heading % but he has actually only won 13 headed duels in the league ,Which is way down on other CB's ,Maguire for example has 7 in 3 games, he simply doesn't compete often in the air

Also today there was a graph of Passes completed per 90 & Progressive passes per 90 & again he was way down the pecking order in comparison to other Prem CB's

    Screenshot_20221104_171726_Instagram.jpg

Is he brilliant or is he just is he decent ,

Suppose either way he is an improvement ,

Massive weekend for the race for top 4. Spurs can, and I think will; deal a massive blow to Liverpool if they beat them. Arsenal can deal a huge blow to Chelsea, but will settle for a draw, and Utd and Geordie-Arabia can keep their runs going.

ex Real and Seville mnager - Julen Lopetegui new Wolves manager - I think they will be safe now.

they need to start scoring goals. We're 13 games in, in November, and they have only scored 6 goals.

Now I know their big money summer singing was unlucky to get a bad injury straight away, but Jimenez seems to be in Mexico just waiting for the WC and Hwang is confined to the bench behind Diego Costa who hasn't scored many goals at all for a few years at this stage. They made a mistake bringing in Costa and making him the main man IMO. And now he is suspended this week, so have to go back to Hwang while his confidence is low.

I think manager worked with Costa before , I know he is ageing, but if he can get him and Traore firing theyll be ok - not sure what the story is with Jimenez , has he just downed tools ?

as the club pay his wages, they mightn't be too happy !
