scanmytesla has a good rep, I used it on my S but haven’t got around to getting the connector to use it on the 3 yet.

My stuff on Adverts, mostly Tesla Pre Highland Model 3

Yep. Haven't got it myself but it's the best source as it's a piece of hardware that can actually access real-time battery stats.

3rd party apps that do not use hardware are a bit of a scam imo

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,248 ✭✭✭wassie

Also any thirdy party apps that require your Tesla credentials is effectively the digital equivilent of handing them your keys.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,267 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

And if they ever have a data breach, your key will be available to the highest bidder locally.

They won't need a keycard, and they won't even need the/a phone to be paired to the car as a phone key!! all they do is log in to the Tesla app on any phone with your credentials, and remotely unlock & start the car.... bypassing Pin to Drive.

So yeah, 3rd party apps..... Thanks but No Thanks.

Tesla don't have any official public APIs, the existing APIs were backward engineered to gain access so technically, using 3rd party apps could void your warranty if damage or unauthorised access is given. I was so tempted to install some cool Tesla 3rd Apple Watch apps but decided not to, just in case.

You would also risk invalidating your insurance in the event of damage or loss as a result of unauthorised access.

Heres the story of the guy who hacked Teslamate to gain access to M3s back in Jan.

Heres the actual account if you want to get all nerdy.

Whilst the probablity of this happening to one's self may be low, the consequence can be very high. It all comes down to one's own risk tolerence at the end of the day.

I had the rim repaired by a mechanic yesterday (wife took the curb) When I got home I noticed the tyre pressure on that wheel had dropped to 30PSI. Is there any way for me to check if they did that? they did take the tyre off to repair the Rim damage.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,267 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

are you sure they even pumped it back up to 42psi when they put the tyre back on?

The Scanmytesla app is entirely different to Tessie or Teslamate. It is installed locally on an Android or ios device. It just analyses the car's can bus via a Bluetooth dongle and shows the data. There is a lot more displayed then is available on any screen in the car but nothing is uploaded to any third party location.

They probably didn't. I did it myself when I got home and noticed the error

I hope you watched him plug it so you have an idea how to do it in future.

Small tip and it my]at seam silly but if you have any spare tyres fit for the bin, put a screw into it and so a practice run at home under no stress. That way the first time you need to do it won’t be on the side of the road at 10pm!

Check for a fly, seems to be the most common reason

The same thing happened to me on Sunday, it was going mental the whole time, I had to disable the alarm and it's been disabled since.

I updated to 2022.36.5 on Saturday and thought it may have been that. What software are you on @Mike2006?

    Hi all,

I haven't followed this thread in quite a while, but hopefully you won't hold that against me. I've been really frustrated lately by the lack of updates and information coming from Volkswagen about my ID3,so I've decided that it's got to go and I'm going to join the Tesla owners club as soon as I can.

I've just a couple of questions that I would like answered..

Where are Irish cars made now. M3 and MY Germany? China? USA?

Is there a CCS port on the car, or does it use an adaptor ?

What's the actual size of the battery in the SR+ model ?

I don't really need the space of the Y, but I was thinking if it's made in Germany, it might be put together a bit better... Is Giga Berlin even open yet ? !!

What's the realistic lead time nowadays ?

    Thanks.

    In the order raised

Majority of Irish cars are made in Teslas Shanghai Plant, where production capacity has been increased to a staggering 22K vehicles per week, shortening delivery dates. Germany Tesla plant is in rampup and concentrated on Model Y, so far LHD, but that could change anytime soon, but for Model 3 all will come from Shanghai for foreseeable.

Yes there is a CCS port

The SR+ is no longer the name it is now RWD, and battery size for Model 3 RWD, although not officially stated is approx 60KW. Its also a LFP battery, which allows (and recommends) that it can be charged to 100%, unlike the previous battery

Model Y pricing has been reduced about a week ago so for RWD it is identical to Model 3, also qualifies for SEAI grant.

Lead time is indicated as Q1 2023..indicative dates on Tesla site are now more reliable but still a moving target as logistics of shipping from China is proving a capacity constraint. For some (myself) a car ordered in June '22 was delivered in Sept 'ww For what its worth the quality coming from China has been recognised as being excellent, so the presumption of better from Germany (in ramp up stage) should be considered.

    China

Model 3 & Model Y are CCS as standard - no adaptor required

What's the actual size of the battery in the SR+ model ?

60kWh but usable is anything from 52-57kWh

Is Giga Berlin even open yet ? !!

Yes, but currently only producing LHD Model Y

What's the realistic lead time nowadays ?

If in inventory - 2-4 weeks, if not in inventory - 2-4 months

    Thanks for that guys.

Is enhanced Auto Pilot a "Must Have" or is it a gimic. Is it better to add it on after delivery to avoid going above possible grant ceilings?

Is the Y a better car or just a pumped up M3.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,267 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

Gimmick - - Don't buy EAP or FSD until after you collect the car if you really want either of them... they are only a software unlock to activate them.

Every Tesla comes with AutoPilot as standard - this is adaptive cruise control and AutoSteer, and in Ireland it's all you'll ever need.

If you order EAP/FSD when you order the car you will pay VRT on them and also push the car outside of SEAI grant territory...

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 42,612 Mod ✭✭✭✭Gumbo

EAP is a nice have but I don’t think I’d pay €3700 for it. I have it, I like it.

If you want it, add it after collection and you avoid VRT and keep the grant.

MY - Pumped up M3. Maybe the M3 is a deflated MY 🤷‍♂️

Buy what suits you. The 3 will handle better and is a bit faster.

I came from an ID.3 to a Model 3, mainly because at the time (Early this year) the price to change became a reality. Tesla was about €49.9K and second hand prices for the ID.3 were very high.

Loved my ID, never any real problems except for a few minor software issues when new.

Would I have got a Model Y had it been the same price at the time I changed? Possibly, but I do not really need the space (We have an Ioniq 5 as well). But residual value may well be better on the Y. Power and efficiency will be a little better on the Model 3. Looks are subjective but I think I prefer the 3. I am finding my Model 3 great on range, in reality in milder weather similar enough to the ID.3, but at motorway speeds and in cold weather definitely better. (Standard heat pump). Tech on the Tesla is on a different level to VW.

That's brilliant lads. I suspected the grant would be affected.

Now to persuade her indoors that she'll get to drive it sometimes... 😉😉

If she is anything my my better half, it will go from "I dont think I will drive it", to where is my car, ah its gone again.....

YESSS!!!!! Thought I was going fu%king mad. So for one day it kept going off, seems to have stopped now tho so fingers crossed. There was an update recently, so could be related.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 16,267 ✭✭✭✭AndyBoBandy

It’s usually a fly inside the car setting it off!!!

we had it about a week ago a few times over the course of a day and low and behold I caught the little fecker and problem solved!

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,580 ✭✭✭eagerv

Didn't even know there was an alarm in my car until I read here of it going off..😊

If it does go off, can it be turned off from the app?

It’s actually a bit weird as the only way I’ve been able to stop the alarm is by unlocking the car via the app….. so it doesn’t exactly feel secure having to do this remotely when the fecking alarm is going off!!!
