Keeper should have done better I think. Fine header though.

Ronnie has done ETH a huge favour here.

His spoilt baby act has forced the manager to be strong, he has zero choice to take action on what is the third time in recent months he's pulled a similar stunt. It makes the manager look strong, says to everyone 'don't mess with me, I take no sh1t' where as there is no real downside, as CR is clearly past it and dropping fast.

Nobody should be surprised, for all his talent CR had always a petulant streak who doesn't like not getting his own way.

fair result , United should take more from this but they need either a striker or players to take their chances better.

Martial the only one of note who would get any playing time today

Bruno said he didn’t see the penalty incident.

That explains him hounding the ref for 5 mins after it was given……

A day of poor games (at least on TV). Hopefully there'll be better tomorrow.

I'd say the biggest guarantee in the game is the team that conceded a penalty will always complain. Nothing new

Dreadful for Varane, hopefully it might not be as serious as it looked. So many players missing the dream of a World Cup Fnals.

The one that cracks me up is players asking for a VAR and still haven't copped that's not haw VAR works.

Agreed - but the players went over and beyond the norm I think - it literally went on for about 3 minutes.

Yeah Bruno is annoying in that regard. Comparing him to previous captains, Keane, Cantona would be balling out their teammates for the initial mistake.

Does the 3 games in a week level the playing field a bit? It proven to be a bit tricky so far. In seasons gone by, we were used to teams racking up 9/10/11 wins in a row and generally the top 6 just 'beating the others'. No team has picked up maximum points from the 3 games in 7 days (or 3 games in 6 days in some cases).

    Liverpool 6/9

    Chelsea 5/9

    United 5/9

    Palace 4/9

    Forest 4/9

    Everton 3/9

    Brighton 1/9

Worse was he asked what would happen if this happened in every game.

I know what would happen. Defenders would have to defend, not consistently break the rules.

Every team is at this and it just looks so sh*t.

I think so, particularly for the clubs that also have European games to contend with. I fear we will see an awful lot of injuries in the second half of the season as players bodies start to burn out from the travails of the WC and truncated league campaigns.

I have reached a point in my life where I just don't understand the point of complaining about players complaining about decisions given against them? All players when they play football whether it's a PL game, a Sunday League U15s game or a kick about with mates when you are 9 will complain about decisions given against them. Its a part of the game. So the concept of then saying well that complaining was justified but that other complaining wasn't really is odd.

Oh and I'd say it went on for 3 mins because there was an ongoing VAR check not because the Utd players were on a rampage for 3 minutes

Did anyone just see that montage for Ronaldo on sky sports? What was that about?

Roy going ape over Ronaldo again.

He's a classic narcissist, convinced of his own greatness and has contemptuous disregard for his teammates and managers.

Was embarrassing seeing the United complaints at the peno. I was 3 pints in and on first replay was just hoping they'd hurry on and take it. Need to cut that out of the game somehow.

Wolves vs. Leicester tomorrow really is an early season 6 pointer.

Whats he saying - hopefully not justifying the sulk/strop

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 32,328 ✭✭✭✭breezy1985

Sad thing is watching him a few years ago I thought he had sorted that out. Seemed much more mature and had become a proper leader especially when playing for Portugal. I had finally started to like the guy.

I suppose as soon as it's not going his way though that switch flipped the other way.

I usually like Roy , but talking absolute tosh , pantomine villain stuff - very poor from Roy, making out Ronaldo is as good as he was at his peak - Time catches up with everyone including Ronaldo and Roy.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 45,643 ✭✭✭✭Mr.Nice Guy

Except he didn't make out Ronaldo was as good as his peak. He correctly pointed out Ronaldo was MOTM against Spurs only back in March and scored a hat-trick, so either time has caught up with him in 7 months, or there's a coach at the helm with no clue how to make the most of the greatest goalscorer the game has ever seen.

The short-term memories and recency bias are something else. I remember having debates on here with United fans in January about Martial. They were unhappy he was only loaned out to Sevilla; they wanted him gone. I argued he should be kept as a squad option but sold in the summer. Then, lo and behold, the same fans that wanted him gone in January came into the new season wanting him to be the starting forward on the basis of a few pre-season goals. Soon they'll be back to wanting him gone again. I also remember Ancelotti being written off in this thread as a finished coach. Time had caught up with him - and then he went and did the double with Madrid.

What's the betting the same folks writing Ronaldo off now will be eating their words next month if he takes home another Golden Boot, or maybe more?

Do you think United as they are now would either be on par or ahead of where we are now if CR had played every game? Now I'm gonna provide you with a cheat card before you answer, so do take your time.

    Screenshot_20221020-203650_The Times.jpg

For some reason you seem to be completely ignoring the genuine affection most United fans have or should have for CR when he was 24, but time and tide waits for no man, we don't have 24 year old CR, we have 37 year old CR. That's not a slight on him, or a denial of him being the absolute phenom that he was, its a statement of fact. If you think shoehorning him into a system he is no longer capable of being a part of is a viable option then there is little point arguing with you.

CR should be an inspiration to the youth in our squad, as he has been for so long to so many, but he isn't and hasn't been.

The GOAT said there is no man bigger than United and he sacrificed Stam, Becks, RVN and others based on that ethos.

CR by his own actions has blotted his copy book, he had a chance to cement his legacy but chose not to, that's on him and him alone.

Jadon Sanchos form is very worrying . If he doesn't sort himself out quick he will be out of the team . Rashford is also not good enough to lead the line for us . I can see Gakpo being signed to be the left winger with Oshimen to lead the line . Add Frenkie to that and I think we will be close . The club most know they will have to spend serious money on a striker next summer

MOTM back in March , seriously you sound as deluded as Keane - a coach with no clue who built a great Ajax team and is finally making United competitive again, after years - take off the Ronaldo tinted glasses he is 37 , past his best , has the odd good game , but is not at the level for a top Premiership striker , what he did on Wednesday was disgraceful, leaving the bench early cause he didnt get a game, whilst his team is winning 2 - 0 , on an obscene wage - its all about Ronaldo, and BTW I rated him as one of the best up to a few years ago, but his best is past and him and his tantrums are now actually bad for United.

I would say there is a lot of similarities with Ronaldo and Milner. Obviously not quality wise, but both should be 'passed it' for Premier League at their age. Both have been great role models for years. But both ae still capable of doing a job in the Premier League - due to their level of fitness and professionalism - but should only be starting a handful of games over the season. Capable of coming on and giving a player a rest with 15 to go and wouldn't look out of place in doing so. But only one of them would be content with accepting a squad/bit part type of position. I could not see Milner do what Ronaldo did - storming away and getting rightly dropped from the matchday squad.

Milner is a great asset to Liverpool in so many ways, as a player, as a role model, motivator etc and will I'm sure make a great coach in years to come.

Ronaldo would be an asset to a different team - he will still score goals - but not at United. He's in a square peg in a round hole type situation currently.

He will only go to a Champions League team and the sooner he does the better for him and United. He has certainly tarnished his reputation with the majority of United fans but towing the party line from now until he leaves is the best thing he can do now.
