Like unkel above, I've always liked the 500, considered buying an Abarth at one point a few years ago (partially just for the exhaust note).

I just wish the 500e had a bit more power, the Honda is up 30+ bhp and 100 Nm on it. Looks great though, is cool and stylish, and your La Prima model is very nicely equipped. Enjoy it.

Well, wishes come true sometimes. There’s an Abarth 500e on the way: Abarth 500 elettrica: uscita, foto spia, anticipazioni e caratteristiche - Quattroruote.it translation of the powertrain bit below:

The electric Abarth 500 will have a specific set-up, an upgraded braking system and, almost certainly, a power injection. The powertrain of the electric 500 consists of a 118 bhp and 220 Nm (front) engine powered by a 42 kWh battery (or 23.7 on entry-level versions). The batteries should remain the same, although there will be no 24kWh version (that is reserved for Fiat), but the powertrain should change. At the moment there are no precise indications on the matter, but the Scorpione's small car will certainly exceed 140 bhp and it cannot be ruled out that in its highest-performance versions it could reach the 200 bhp area (the current thermal range runs from 165 to 180 bhp). Performance will thus be in line with that of the current thermal Abarths, with a WLTP range that could be around 300 kilometres. A value that, driving it as befits every Abarth, will drop precipitously.

Personally, I don’t feel like I need more power when driving, so I can’t imagine how insane a 200 bhp motor in a car this size would be - but Abarth has form when it comes to putting stupid amounts of engine power in small cars, so I wouldn’t rule it out as wishful thinking by the magazine authors (Quattroruote is usually pretty well informed when it comes to the Italian manufacturers).

    Hi,

I got the 500e as well, the La Prima Cabriolet. I absolutely love it, it's fun, fast, and easy to drive; I wouldn't swap it. However, for anyone considering it, it does have some negatives.

    • It's a perfect city car, but it's a bit bouncy on back roads in Ireland. Passengers prone to travel sickness won't like it.
    • The stated range (320km) is in "Sherpa Mode", which turns off climate control and limits the car's speed to 80kph. For me, about 250km is more accurate and closer to fast 200km for motorway driving.
    • We have another car (diesel) that we use for longer trips, if you need to make longer trips regularly, this probably shouldn't be your only car.
    • If you put the back seats down, you can store a lot (even a step ladder), but on the Cabriolet version, the boot entrance is very small. Getting a medium luggage case in there requires some Tetris thinking.
    • There is no elegant or graceful way to get into the back seats.

My wife loves her 500E so much she won't let me drive it, and can't be tempted into my Ioniq 5!

Thinking of getting a used one, looks like a very fun little EV.

Does anyone have an updated opinion after owning one for two or three years? Is it breaking down or still good as new? :)

My wife's car has almost 25k in almost three years.

No faults at all. Has only required wiper blades and pollen filter. Front tyres about half worn.

Interior cleans up like new. No squeaks or rattles.

Only downside is dealer has been rather disinterested once car is sold. Took a while to get a service appointment and then they wanted silly money. Price came down when told we would go elsewhere.

    Someone mentioned 30kW AV charger.

What car has such a charger and where in the country is there such a charger?

Have an Icon trim out for a test drive until Monday.

Bit of a shock to have non-auto dipping halogen high beams. I'd likely want to buy a used La Prima for the back-up camera and LED high beams :) or maybe that can be retrofitted on a bargain icon if the price is right...

So far finding it pleasant to drive, only bad thing so far about being on the motorway is watching the battery level drop in real time. :P Backroads are lovely in such a small car, feels nippy and right at home in such conditions.

On paper this car seems like it has all the benefits of the ICE fiat 500 and all the drawbacks of the same car

As an EV I'd compare it to the BYD Dolphin which, on paper it equals in many ways and I think the Fiat is a little cheaper for a little less range.

Personally I'd be delighted to see fewer SUV EVs on the road so if it suits you then absolutely go for it

Returned the demo 500e yesterday, probably going out today to look at the rose gold and ocean green colours to make sure I like them both.

Range seems grand for a tiny car, I guess it can drive from Dublin to Sligo in summer without stopping.

And it can recharge from 10% to 80% in half an hour. More than sufficient for its class, I feel...

Was good to drive, felt decent inside. It's only anecdotal but according to people who have driven the ICE 500 and the 500e, the 500e is overall better build quality, better driving feel and premiumness.

I'd hope so, seeing as it's an entirely new chassis. ;)

    #MEGA MAKE EUROPE GREAT AGAIN

Will be interesting to see if the new Renault 5 gets as much love and attention as the 500 has through the years -and if prices might come down a bit - there has t been much completion in this part of the market ie small classic type e cars
