Then why should boards.ie allow medical misinformation under the guide of the CT forum?

Glad that your clarification negates the first statement you made: “Does not and it should never afford that person the right to be unquestioned. This isn't religion”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 18,059 ✭✭✭✭banie01

It really doesn't, as religious beliefs are afforded both legal protection & protections within charters on here.

The protection afforded to protected belief is in tension with the protection BBOC seeks to afford Conspiracy Theorists. A further point is that in general, those who have the luxury of protected belief to hide behind? Do, in fairness to many posters in religion forums, rarely hide behind it and are happy to lay out their beliefs and the basis for same, unlike the vast majority of CTr's.

    nobody made you read this?

    its an utterly facile point.

So you are now reasserting that the legal protection accorded religious belief (and “multiple forums”) means that religion cannot be questioned.

    That is simply absurd.

As you have asserted contradictory positions and asserted something that is absurd there is no point pursuing it with you any further.

Oh no, you aren't going to talk to me anymore 🤷‍♂️

That's a huge loss to me but I'll try to cope without you.

It seems like a simple solution here is as usual the best solution.

Thread is created which includes theories which touch on medical issues, thread title is modified by the moderator to remind posters that the opinions being shared are not medically sound and a more detailed break down of the same inserted into the thread.

On a similar note but slightly off this topic but on topic why was a particular poster allowed to use conspiracy theories to bypass his bans from CA and politics to discuss the on going war in Ukraine

I'd say the reason you're seeing this happening now is because of the manner in which you engage with people.

If you're confused by this I'll break it to you gently; you're not particularly polite and people notice that type of thing.

As it happens I've no issue with theories or beliefs being challenged but you need to begin from a position of respecting the person even if you think what they're saying has no merit. The constant "lol dude" type responses I've seen from you over the years underline a distinct lack of respect for other users which in most fora on boards would result in sanction.

I've recently been advised to change my own style of posting and while I don't agree with a the reasoning behind it I did have to step back and think about why it was said and I'm trying to understand what I can do to improve at the very least.

As for people dumping links with no explanation, that should be actioned by mods. If you're going to take the time to discuss something at least be prepared to explain it properly.

I had previously discussed similar concerns about the thread with them in the past. At that point they said this was the appropriate place to raise concerns about the forum.

I think the question of medical misinformation on the forum is something that should be considered by more than just the current moderator.

I felt therefore, that such discussion was better suited to a forum, as I expected other posters would have similar views \ concerns \ could provide more input - rather than DM visible only to me and moderator. Which has proven to be the case imo, based on the comments on this thread.

Please discuss with the mod via PM begore starting any thread here

And that applies to everyone else. It's something we say repeatedly in this forum (and I know you started it in Feedback, but that is to deal with issues affecting the site as a whole - Help Desk is the place for forum specific ones)

The mod has posted in this thread. The only thing I would add is I do nor see why anyone should/would take any "advice" from a forum entitled "Conspiracy Theories"

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,521 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

I will do so in future.

And to add, while they should not - they do, which is why there are rules against certain advice on forums.

At this point, the moderator in question has responded, and if no wider response is to be provided from boards.ie on the concern, the thread would appear to have run its course and should be closed.

No Idea, I just come onto Boards for chat about football and other subjects, If I was seeking medical advice or misinformation about medical misinformation then I wouldn't take anything from Boards

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,307 ✭✭✭Quags

this is true and nobody made you read my comment yet here we are replying back to each other. my point is not everything you read on the internet or elsewhere for that matter is true so whether its medical fact or not dont be letting a random person on boards annoy you

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 40,966 ✭✭✭✭ohnonotgmail

Why is medical disinformation acceptable in the CT forum?

BBOC doesn't have an issue with it. Are they wrong?

OP will you ever cop yourself on.

Next you'll be reporting people for talking about the existence of big foot if they haven't actually seen him .

    Friends of Pfizer

Someones views on Big Foot are unlikely to affect their mortality or those around them ... on the CT forum medical misinformation about vaccines is posted which could, by misleading someone. Either it shouldnt be allowed or needs more active moderation of what is posted. Posters shouldnt be able to hide behind words like 'my interpretation' imo.

Doubt there are too many taking life also medical advice from somewhere called "Conspiracy Theory Forum"

Please stop trying to censor what people can and can't say. You have no right

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,521 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

Boards have such policies on many forums it is not censorship. Perhaps you are in the wrong place.

Anyhow I think this thread has run its course and can be closed at local mod's discretion @Beasty

    You'd be surprised

Please stop trying to censor what people can and can't say. You have no right

Exactly, yet this is what a mod is suggesting on that forum. That you won't be allowed to challenge another person's certain opinion or view. Only agree with them.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 1,609 ✭✭✭Tonesjones

Agree or leave . Then call a mod.

    You just proved my point

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 36,521 ✭✭✭✭odyssey06

If you bother to read the thread you will see I asked for it already. So that busts your theory.

    It isn't.

We're at a point now where people saying this need to prove that medical advice would realistically be sought in that forum.

The forum is called conspiracy theory yet on that thread it is a very long tine since I saw an actual conspiracy theory proposed.

It seems to be the dumping ground for anything covid related not permitted on the main forum whether CT related or not. And if its not permitted on the main forum why is it permitted there and people can be threadbanned for challenging it.

Then why can't people say in CT that they don't agree with, or can refute, the medical misinformation?

  • Moderators, Society & Culture Moderators Posts: 9,816 Mod ✭✭✭✭Manach

If thine eye offends thee cast it out. Likewise the OP is free not to frequent that Forum. Moderators normally have some expertise in their respective areas, but for a wide ranging subject that fall into conspiracy those volunteer Mods would or could not be expected to purge content that fails to meet the self-appointed standards of some.
