    Hello

I want to either fit an FM band expander or replace the whole radio unit {already have the unit} in a Japanese VW UP!

The problem I'm having is I don't know what connectors I need or where to get them.

See below for the connections of both the Irish and Japanese radio unit. The Japanese unit {top of pic} only has one connection while the Irish one has 2 connections {bottom of pic). I also have an FM band expander but again unsure of what connections I need and where to get them. Any help would be greatly appreciated

If you’re changing the radio (to a unit bought in Europe) you won’t need the band expander.

    Yes I know

I bought the band expander 1st then came across a European UP! unit

Any actual information on suitable connectors for fitting either the European unit or the Band expander would be much appreciated

    TIA

Firstly, one of the aerial inputs on the European radio is damaged. Try plugging the radio in anyway, it should power up at least but because one of the aerial inputs on the radio is damaged you might not get radio reception at all with just one plugged in. Try it & see.

To fit the band expander you’ll need 2 fakra adaptors. One goes into the radio & the other connects into the car, then they’ll both connect to your band expander. The band expander looks like it needs power too so it’ll have to be wired into the loom.

If the European radio won’t power up (& presuming the Japanese one did so no fuses are blown etc) then that European radio is faulty. If the radio reception doesn’t work with the damaged input you might be better to replace it with some aftermarket unit (if possible). Find an authorised dealer who sells & installs Pioneer/Kenwood/Sony etc radios & get them to fit it properly.
