The fact that City STILL have to cook the books after a decade of being at the top of the league shows the issue with those clubs.

The NFL/MLB/NBA is different in that those spprts are all almost exclusively American based to begin with.

Sure Real Madrid/Barca/Fenerbahce/Olympiakos all have basketball teams but the standard is that low in comparison that they don't actually compete with any NBA team.

The money is only shared out evenly to stop one team doing a Bayern and absolutely dominating, and the salary cap means Musk/Bezos cant come in and load up a team with 500m wages.

Also the reason why the drafts always start with the worst team picking first. Teams that are relatively weak can decide fùck it accelerate the decline to get a superstar in the draft and start rebuilding.

Its also basically the same model in place in Australia for Aussie Rules. Its a sytem that needs a closed shop to work at all.

The draft system in OZ was also deemed illegal under restraint of trade laws by the federal court but the AFL just carry on with it and the players haven't fought it.

Ah so is this a result of the Premier League not wanting its individual teams having their own shows (All or nothing) and are cashing in for the benefit of their members themselves?

Madrids mouthpiece in full on tap up mode for Bellingham. Likely he will end up there if their interest is bona fide. I see there alot of chatter from Liverpool fans about signing him but I'd be absolutely flabbergasted of they spend €150m on anyone, never mind the kind of wages he'll be looking for. Madrid are also massively more attractive, regular winners of the big trophies and with some of the best young midfielders in the world already there in comparison to an aging and regularly crocked midfield at lfc. The only thing I can see being a determining factor is Klopp. Madrid are very volatile in terms of their managers and willingness to sack whereas JK is as bullet proof as anyone in the game.

Next summer Jude will only have 2 years left on his current deal so i don't see him going for more than 100million ,

Considering he will also only go 20 next summer , he could hang on another year & Dortmund would get half that,

There is also the fact he is English so that helps make the case of him wanting to play in the Prem ,

City or Liverpool would be my bet at his next destination ,

I reckon Madrid go big on a forward next summer a CB not a CM ,

So after the British mini Budget the average premier League footballer will be £250k a year richer.

Conte being linked with a return to Juve.

Two years is his average stint so it wouldn't surprise me.

Can’t see Liverpool getting Bellingham. If City want him, he’ll be theirs. No way Liverpool can compete with a state backed team who also appear to have so many wonderfully generous sponsors.

Ya those little charity run clubs that live off subs and gate receipts like Liverpool do have no hope.

I'de say the hearts of every fan of the rest of the English football pyramid clubs bleed for the poor old destitute craters at Liverpool.

Bellingham will have his pick of clubs this summer - he won't be picking Liverpool.

Can't see him going to Utd either. Think it will basically be a shootout between Real and City. City will obviously be able to offer the money so it depends if he wants to stop off for a payday before going to Real later like Haaland or just go straight to Real.

If he had the same agent as Haaland the answer would be obvious.

Unbelievable talent - whoever gets him is getting some player

Shite... was hoping Chelsea would make a lot worse transfers than this under Todd

It still seems very scattergun approach.

Chelsea continuing to throw money at another forward from the Bundesliga, in the hope that this one finally clicks, rather than working with the ones they already have. Why not persist with Havertz, who cost £75m, and largely plays the same positions as Nkunku in the withdrawn forward type role. They signed both Werner & Havertz with no clear plan for either in place and both transfers then failed.

What's the plan here? With Havertz, Auba, Sterling & Broja already in attack, with Pulisic & Ziyech probably going to leave now. Is Mount finally going to become a midfielder instead instead of playing in the front 3?

Yeah, it doesn't seem like there's a lot of scouting going on... they've spent a fortune on lads who are very famous well known entities, with Nkunku now added into the mix. It's grand if you can afford it (though I'm not entirely sure how some of them knit together as a team), but it doesn't seem too sustainable if that's literally the only type of player you're buying.

Seems a bit mad to spend so much before they bring in a director of football. Like, surely a tiny bit of patience would've been the way to go - bring in the guy you want to orchestrate your philosophy, and then spend your 300m...

Liverpool can’t compete in the transfer market with City so if they want Bellingham they’ll be ahead of Liverpool. I thought it was fairly obvious

So why go to a team with some of the best midfielders in the world already there and compete for a spot vs go to the crocked and aging midfield (that still seems to be doing OK trophy wise) to be their super star?

I’d say we’ll see Chelsea in the mix for him too with the mad money Todd is throwing around.

(still can’t believe there’s a premier league owned named ‘Todd’)

The best players want to play with the best players and he would slot in nicely beside Camavinga and Tchouameni, he wouldnt need to compete with them and Kross and Modric will likely both leave RM next summer. Since JK joined Liverpool they have won 1 league and 1 CL whereas Madrid have won 3 of each in the same time frame. Madrid is an infinitely more appealing city than Liverpool.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,341 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

    Where does Valverde go then?

4 midfielders for 3 spots and each of the existing 3 Real Madrid players will have 'waited their turn' for Casemiro, Kroos & Modric to leave so that they could become guaranteed starters every week.

Before the penalty was taken Bt comms say how Kane missed a peno against Forest earlier in the season.

Then after he scored go on to say how Kane doesn't miss penalties.

    Mind numbing stuff.

Modern sqauds are much deeper these days so top quality options are a necessity for competing at the highest level. You've seen it yourself with LFC, a couple of injuries and the wheels tend to come off unless there is sufficient quality to cover absences.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 17,341 ✭✭✭✭Fitz*

I do indeed. But these are £70m-£100m players we're talking about. I'm not sure they are going to be happy on the bench waiting for an injury or coming on for 20 mins. They are expecting to start pretty much every game. Of course, the 4th choice of 4 is needed but that 4th choice is usually a drop in level below the rest, while maintaining a good level at the same time so the drop off is not noticeable. Liverpool's problems are because there are 2 or 3 players missing in the same are of the pitch at the same time, not just 1. Tchouameni, Bellingham etc are too good to be the 4th man.

Camavinga did it last season and you could sell him the idea of doing it, as he was young and easy going to be a guaranteed starter in 2 years time.

Tchouameni was sold on the idea of being Real Madrid's big summer signing, and the new face of Real Madrid's midfield so he went there instead of Liverpool this summer. There's na expectation from him .

There's gonna be an expectation from Bellingham too, if he moves there.

Gift of a goal , Arsenal with a bit of luck but I guess that’s what you want from your striker. Right place at the right time

Spurs just aren’t great to watch are they
