Right, does it do this for Steam games only? Most of my card is emulated games.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,553 ✭✭✭lmimmfn

    yes, only steam games

    See here - https://www.reddit.com/r/SteamDeck/comments/tz9rza/is_shader_cache_and_compatdata_filling_your_64gb/

You can check the size of the directories for

    /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/compatdata

    and

    /home/deck/.steam/steam/steamapps/shadercache

@Vicxas - what % are you showing at this evening?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,646 ✭✭✭✭Vicxas

Still on last weeks numbers. Hasn’t updated yet. The 512gb are always the last it seems

98.31% going by UK orders, 100% going by EU. Hopefully have email Thursday going by that.

How long typically does the GLS tracker take to update? I heard it can be slow for a bit until you hear it's in Ireland.

    My last update is:

    23/09/2022 00:52

The parcel has left the parcel center.

    Netherlands

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 3,553 ✭✭✭lmimmfn

You'll probably have it delivered tomorrow, check late tonight if it arrives in Ireland and it'll be delivered the next day

Yeah you defo should get the email this Thursday. Mine was at 96% last Thursday and jumped to 101 today and got the email.

For anyone getting the 64gb I'd recommend upgrading it asap. I tried keeping it solely for the OS, moving everything I could including proton files to the SD card, but the internal memory still fills up.

I bought this 1tb from eBay https://www.ebay.ie/itm/224591774476 it took 2-3 weeks to deliver with a brief layover in the Netherlands, but managed to escape customs.

It's not hard to do and if your games are stored on your microsd you won't need to redownload them.

Put a deposit down for 512gb less than a week ago, already at 96% on that tracking site. Looking forward to soon dipping the toe into PC gaming for first time in over 20 years

Just ordered this Samsung Pro Plus rather than the Evo Select that I was planning on getting, it's down to €66 and comes with a handy USB card reader rather than the SD adpater. I know the Deck can't utilise the full 160MB/s but it's seems decent value at that price.

The more I play, the more I am impressed.

    So far I've tried

    * Control - plays really well, but did turn off motion blur.

    * Final Fantasy XV - again, plays really well, though did limit to 30 FPS to increase battery

    * MultiVersus - not exactly intensive, but plays really well, no slowdown or anything.

    * Rocket League - compared to the Switch, it's no contest. Looks beautiful - only negative is that you need to download the Epic Store version if you didn't previously own it (which I thankfully did)

    * Vampire Survivors - wow, this is an addictive little game! :)

    * Disco Elysium - played well again, no real issues, though the right stick to select things could be a bit iffy at times

    * Halo: MC - only played a bit of Reach, but no issues - no multiplayer for now due to Anti Cheat issues, but can play perfectly in offline mode.

    * Fallout 3 - plays perfectly too, going to get back into this as not played since launch.

Plus a good number of emulators up to Wii U (Zelda - Wind Waker and Breath of the Wild both run great)

How do you go about putting emulators and games on to the SD card from a windows PC. Is it simple copy and paste by putting the card in the PC card reader or do you need to transfer over while the card is in the deck. Probably a silly question but I’m use to windows only no Linux experience.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 8,324 ✭✭✭chrislad

It's not a simple copy and paste, I'm afraid. My Mac couldn't read the card. I plugged in an external hard drive via USB C and transferred via file browser. I used EmuDeck to set up all the Emulators though.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 933 ✭✭✭robfowler78

So you plugged the HD straight into the deck? Never thought of that I’ll have to see if I have a HD that has a usb c connection. Do you know if you can file transfer over a network from a windows PC?

There's an app you can get to transfer between Linux and Windows. I found it very slow for big files though. I bought a USB c to USB adapter on ebay for a couple of quid, works great.

    Warpinator is the app

I have a USB flash drive. It's just normal USB though. Could I buy a USB C to USB adapter, copy all my games for emulation onto it from my windows laptop, stick it into the steam deck and transfer the games onto the steam deck HD and the SD card I have in it?

Should be no reason that wouldn't work. I just plugged in my external HDD and it showed up as a new drive in the File Explorer - just make sure you disable the sleep mode or extend if it you are copying large files. I migrated from one card to another and it took 3 hours to transfer
