That's a good deal. If you ring them, it's 10%, or at least that's what I got and I am with them for 15yrs for gas. I would rather stay on standard rates for that offer or move elsewhere.

Is this a good deal? One big switch.. Going from panda..

It's good. But keep in mind it's only for non-smart meters.

Non smart plans... You can still switch to it if you have a smart meter that is on a regular plan which is 96% of them apparently.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 960 ✭✭✭Moving2017

The rates quoted are pre October so you may want to check the new rates also.

i am with electric ireland for electricity only. using non smart meter and national average both switcher and bonkers now only show prepay power or electric ireland as plans that can be switched to?

Anybody confirm that the market has narrowed this much

Make sure you select NO for "Only show tariffs available for sign up?", selecting yes will only show the plans the site get commission on. Rule of thumb for all comparison sites, check on the comparison site and the go direct to cut out the middleman.

    SSE: 44.26, 13

    Energia: 44.44, 13.58

    BG: 44.21, 13.4

    EI: 39.7, 13.46

    FloGas, 57.13, 19.65

    [Elec, Gas]

I think they are all the unit prices when they go up in October. The 33% off is easily the best deal on the market (for me) at the moment.

the rates that are not available for signup, how do you get these if they are not available. I dont even see them on the providers site. Bord gais website are still displaying rates it says are from March this year.

Never mind the T&C for BG still show march of 2022 for the rates being correct as of... but I understand your point, do your own switch after finding a plan on bonkers or similar.

All BGE rates can be found by clicking on Energy > Our Tarriffs Explained (you may need to scroll down to find it). The standard & discounted rates at various percentages can be seen for a range of situations (smart meter, day/night meter, urban, rural etc) . The Oct prices increases are there also.

The rates not available to sign up means through bonkers. You are not able to sign up for them through bonkers. You can sign up directly on the energy providers site however.

The 33% for BG is through one big switch.

There's a lot of shenanigans going on with the utilities at the moment. Discounts reduced, inflated standing charges and now most of them don't offer the full switch through the comparison sites. It's just making it more and more frustrating for the consumer.

Did I read somewhere that an up coming report was to recommend that utilities were to make their cheapest tariff available to all customers not just the switchers/ new customers or bolchy ones like ourselves that chase best rates.

The CRU is asleep at the wheel, hopeless performance by their chair re smart meters the other night on RTÉ too. It was like watching someone who stumbled into the discussion.

It’s heading the direction of health insurance where the companies intentionally make it impossible to figure out what’s best for you.

Got this from Vodafone the other day, why oh why doesn't the same apply to gas and electric? It would cut out so much of the BS that they use to bamboozle us. I'm looking at you CRU.

One big switch look attractive but they are not factoring the changes next week . Even tho this is explicit in their fine print. Pretty sneaky if you ask me.

Either way il be running comparisons and writting them down based on the unit cost.

From their il try and figure out who im pulling the trigger on.

Might be stupid here, but wouldn't it just be 33% of the October tariff that's on Bord Gais site for the price rise?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 10,864 ✭✭✭✭Paul Tergat

I did the number based on new rates (bonkers have old rates published but say they use rates per October changes in their calculations) and my own usage. The obs offer came out best over SSE, who still offer €300 Cashback.

This will also depend on any loyalty offer (hahaha!!!) with my current provider EI.

I wonder has anyone switched to SSE, taken the €300 and left straight away, or do they stagger the credit?

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 4,124 ✭✭✭Kaisr Sose

It reads to me as 33% off the standard rate. If it goes up, or down, it's still 33% of the prevailing rate.

SSE credit is only applicable after you’ve paid your first bill and is recoverable if you leave during the contract period in addition to the early exit fee.

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,955 ✭✭✭Cape Clear

    Recoverable!

Is this in their terms and conditions? I've had a look for it a couple of times but haven't come across it.

So are Bord Gais the best deal at the mo? 28 and 39% off their dual fuel plans?

Signed up with flogas last week as they were the best moving from panda after there increase it looks like bordgais on onebigswitch is now the best for standard 24hr if I cancel flogas to I revert back to old supplier first or onto bordgais if I take their 33% deal

I’ll have to fish out the original email from them but from the basic terms on the website I believe it would be covered under “…The Offer can only be redeemed following the successful payment of your first bill and provided the Customer continues to be supplied by SSE Airtricity.”

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 15,878 ✭✭✭✭Red Silurian

Only catch there is that all energy suppliers increase their prices at the same time as there's no real competition so you're saving nothing in the long term

The real BS is that Vodafone shouldn't be upping their prices for anybody in a contract but somehow they get away with it

  • Registered Users, Registered Users 2 Posts: 2,955 ✭✭✭Cape Clear

Thanks for looking into it. I would be of the view that as it doesn't expressly mention clawing back the cash they would be on shaky ground legally. Maybe one for the small claims court! I asked $$E recently to add my wife's name to the account. They told me they would have no issue doing this but it would mean paying a €50 breakage fee as it they would need to cancel the existing account and set up a new one. After telling the agent how off the wall this was I went on to ask him what would happen if I left for a new provider. To which he answered that I would only be liable for the € 50 break fee.

In contrast here is €lectric Ireland's wording. Which seems a lot more explicit than $$E.

    • If you receive a Switching Bonus and cease to take electricity and/or gas from Electric Ireland before the end of price plan contract term, Electric Ireland reserves the right to cancel the Switching Bonus and debit your account with an amount up to the value of the Switching Bonus.

Customer offers Terms and Conditions | Electric Ireland

I'd say Govt expect electricity/energy prices to soar with all the money they are doling out today

Did anyone switch providers while the last government credit was still applied to their account? I have to wait till mid-December before I'm out of contract so it's likely that the account will be in credit at that stage (depending on what way they spread out paying the 600 obviously). I'm just wondering if it'll turn into some total drama if I try to move, or will it just be treated as any sort of credit and refunded to me.
